Legendary Armor and (multiple?) Runes
Funny, there’s a thread just above yours expressing the exact same idea! Great minds think alike I guess. I never thought of something like that, but that would be very legendary indeed. While we’re at it, we could add a sigil swap on legendary weapons as well.
People been complaining about it for a while already with legendary weapons. Right now its just better to craft another ascended weapon and hoard it in bag than keep buying new sigils. It wont be different with legendary armor unless these skins are really “wow” nobody will bother crafting it. Stat changing without sigil/rune changes is pointless.
A good example of it would be for mace for warrior and mace for revenant. One is used mostly in dps/cc and another one as condition.. Both need different sigils.
Playing Smite since mid s2, f broken gw2.
Just to quote my idea from the other thread which I believe could help greatly with sigil & rune swapping but keep sigil & runes as part of the end game economy for gold sinks & crafting incomes.
So much will depend on if were able to swap builds within the raid (Sorry not sure if this has been decisively answered).
Actual I could see this as a nice addition hard mode on top of the standard challenge, maybe have increase drop rates, some unique loot & different loot lockouts
Now I’m a player that constantly loves changing their build & playstyle & can’t wait for more further Legendary equipment. But have recently started wondering what would be left to spend gold on, where’s the everyday consumables to chip away at that every growing pile of gold. What becomes the point to crafting for end game players.
What I thought about was the addition of is Timed Sigils & Rune Consumables that temporary over write your currently permanent equipped sigils & runes.
The way I see them functioning is similar to the current stat swapping on legendaries & transmutation charges, in that you would select them in the same way as stats but when equipped it would consume a corresponding sigil or rune charge applying the selected sigil or rune temporarily. At any time you could swap back to your permanent sigil or runes at no cost.
For this to work with crafting I would stay away from a single overall charge for all sigils or runes & keep in as individual sigil & rune charges. I would also look a 3 types of charges:
- NPC Merchant: 15 mins
- Player Cratfed Tier 1: 30 mins
- Pl;ayer Crafted Tier 2: 60 mins
You could go longer durations but the main point is these are temporary designed to be a end game gold sink allowing for easier sigil & rune swapping. Also you can just consume another charge to reapply.
With regards to runes it could be a single rune charge does all 6 or that it takes 6 charges. I prefer a single overall rune charge replacing all 6 (or change runes to a single rune for the whole rune bonus not mixing & matching part runes sets)

but that is content for other expansions
legendary runes and sigils.
you guys want all legendary at once.
i hope you can only make 2 pieces of legendary armor in this exp, otherwise we will run of stuff to obtain later.
Actually I don’t want legendary sigils & runes as I now believe it be very bad for end game economy. This should help make sigil & rune swapping easier & help end game build swapping but still keeps sigil & runes in end game economy. The tick is to balance these timed sigil & runes cost to encourage ease of build swapping for differing content which I see by providing the base NPC version.
But I agree it would most likely be a future major patch or expansion.
I have ascended armor with a set of runes on it. I never swap or put no runes, same would apply to legendary armor. (It’s not worth throwing away 50g). If they allowed us to unlock runes with a dropdown box like pvp or something then I would buy more. At this point for me and those like me the runes market is dead. So would it actually be bad to let us but more kinda of runes to unlock in a single armor set?? Because otherwise I’ll just keep running my sub par travelers runes like I always have.
Runes and sigils aren’t meant to be kept forever, they are intended to be destroyed when you change them. This functions as both a sink for runes/sigils keeping the valuable ones valuable, and a sink for gold as people have to buy more.
Sheer demand is the only reason stuff like Strength runes are so expensive.
Runes in legendary should work no differently than any other armor.
No more non cosmetic advantages
None. The stat swapping is already far beyond what legendaries were promised to stay as. In fact I’d argue the stat swapping needs to go, and legendary be returned to what it is supposed to be, a cosmetic only grind.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Upgrades on Ascended and Legendary gear should be swappable.
I’d even be open to some gem store buy to allow this.
I’d also like to push for the same idea for infusions, being able to select between your Agony infusion, or +5 pow, or +5 condi, etc.. should you actually pony up and buy them in the first place.
It pointless to have gear that can change stats if it dont change the runes as well, runes are as big part of any build as the stats….
ANet already has your solution: Upgrade Extractor
You could argue that this is more expensive than the Rune or some Infusions and you’d be right but that’s a gold market fix by making Exotic Runes more expensive somehow or making the gem store item gem-cost cheaper.
If upgrade extractors were given at the same rate as transmutation charges then maybe. But the upgrade extractor fix can simply be ignored as it was that expensive (if that really is their idea of a fix it was one of the worst fixes I’ve ever seen). People want a chance to buy a lot of runes/sigils and only unlock them on a single weapon/armor piece. If they ever change weapons they would have to unlock them all again. I don’t see this as some horrible request to upset the market, people simply want to be able to use different builds with ascended/legendary gear that runes have a large role in making.

I think this is a good idea. A lot of people here are concerned for the economy… I’m trying to figure out why. Do you suppose that a lot of people will have legendary armor? I will probably get it. I have 9 legendary weapons, so I’m no stranger to grinding. But most people don’t have even 1 legendary. This will be even less of an issue if the grind for the legendary armor is piece by piece (which would be awful, but it’d make the impact that much less on the economy).
Let’s be fair, even if 5% of players had legendary armor, the economy wouldn’t even see a dip. Actually, it might improve things a tiny, tiny bit. The way things are, strength runes (last I checked) run 9g a piece. It’s like that because so many people are buying them that they are becoming much more scarce. So if 5% less people bought them, the price would dip a tad, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.
But we’re still over-estimating the impact that the vast minority of players will have on the economy when they don’t need to buy runes anymore. I mean, as it is, I have an armor set replete with all the requisite runes for each of my builds already. Today, I have no reason to buy runes or sigils at all. It wouldn’t change if I had legendary armor.
To those like ScribetheMad who argue that legendaries should be cosmetic only, why? Legendaries are the ultimate grind. Besides, it’s silly to think that asking the very few players that own legendaries to buy several sets of weapons to carry around will do much for the economy or the game as a whole. I think stat swapping is neato, as it saves me like 9 bag spaces (on just 1 of my toons). But it’s not like I couldn’t buy them.
It just seems that some people don’t want legendaries to be so desirable. They already have amazing looks and some people just want to leave it there, and I can’t figure out why. Seriously, if I had it my way, legendaries would come with a finisher or mail delivery or a title. These are weapons of legends and by holding them, you are part of that legend. A lack of title always seemed odd to me.
I digress. Point being, legendaries don’t obliterate the economy. People aren’t seeing vast inflation and a price drop in 80 exotics or ascended mats because the people with legendaries don’t need to buy weapons anymore. Runes will be just fine.
Last note, I really can’t stress enough how few people (in compared to the numbers of people trading on the tp) have legendaries. These legendaries are only “legendary” on 1 of their toons. It’s beyond absurd to think that 1-5% of players, with only 1 of their toons, would have a big enough impact on the rune/sigil market, as to deflate their value. The biggest deflator for value would be people like me who keep multiple sets of weapons so I don’t need to buy dozens of sigils for different builds.
That is all
The problem I have with using upgrade extractors (other than the price being higher than that of any rune, even if it is like transmutation charges, having to switch them two or three times a week for raids alone would drain that fund fast) is that it is not quick at all. If you need to change builds on the fly, you can’t do it by extracting runes and putting new ones in. There are already a lot of people begging for the ability to save their builds so they can swap faster, especially the people who play the higher end content, why would we want this legendary armor (which is supposed to be stat swappable) to take us more time.
I like the idea of unlocking runes for the armor and checking a box like in PvP, or the idea of a gem store unlock that allows you to store multiple sets of runes in legendary armor.
Either way, legendary equipment has the capacity to change it’s stats, why would they put that feature if they didn’t want us to be able to use it?

We’ll just have to wait and see. I bet they’ll have some functionality for the runes. It’d be a shame otherwise.
