Apparently legendary armor is coming as part of the rewards of raids! Just in case people missed this

LEGENDARY
ARMOR
As part of rewards for raids, we’re introducing legendary armor. Conquering raid content will earn you the pieces to build legendary precursor armors, which can be forged into legendary heavy, medium, and light armor sets. Like legendary weapons, these pieces will have the same stats as ascended armor; you’ll be able to change the armor stats out of combat and dazzle your friends with your sense of style, but you won’t have a statistical edge. Endless tiers of gear grind to stay raid relevant have no place in Guild Wars 2.

Too much grind for me if they follow the same recipe of current legendaries…. Maybe if they had better stats but I don’t need to change stats, ever.

Have yet to get the cash for a legendary weapon and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Legendary armour being tied to raids assures I won’t get that either.

Ah well. I wasn’t really all that invested in the game at this point anyway, so I suppose this hasn’t changed much from my perspective.

Gone for good after Halloween 2Ø12.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.

We already need a particle effect slider now. It’s going to be a cluster-phark when legendary armors are available more so than it is now.

Why is everyone giving this such a negative response? I think its awesome and a lot of people need this progression in the game at this point. I doubt they will use the same recipe as legendary weapons. If they do it will just be ultimate prestige something too hardcore in my opinion.

It will be flashy armor for sure..we have already flashy armor, that isn’t even legendary…

I’m alot more curious about it, what Anet will add to the game with Legendary armors and Legendary Backpacks and surely soon after to follow also Legendary Accessoires/Aqua Breathers /Glider Skins ect. pp, what not already Legendary Weapons give us to add more Character Costomization.

I really hope, that ANet takes this opportunity to brign Character Customization to a whole new level of freedom for thigns in the game, which aren#t yet customizable at all …

This is what I hope it will end up like:

Legendary Weapons = Auras, Flashy Weapon Effects, Foot Prints

Legendary Backpacks = Customizable Colors, Enhanced Boon Effect Animations, Enhanced/Expanded Emotes

Legendary Armors = Weapon Skill Skin Changes, Utility/Healing Skill Skin Changes, Elite Skill Skin Changes

Legendary Accesssoires = Enhanced Dodge Roll Effects, Enhanced Glider Effects, Enhanced Finisher Effects

Just to say, with legendary equipment beign complete, theres alot of unused potential to add alot more character customization to the game.

And it will be pretty sure, that each type of legendary equipment will have its completely own game mode, where and how you will earn them.

Legendary Weapons = Crafting/Exploration
Legendary Armors = Raid Rewards
Legendary Back Items = Fractal of the Mist Rewards
Legendary Accesssoires = I guess will become part of hopefully redesigned WvW Rewards

it would be way too much grind ,if all different legendary equipment items woudld have to be crafted like legendary Weapons

i really hope said legendary armor is NOT an outfit or something stupid like a 1 piece suit and that said armor is tailored for the classes (or their specs) in (visual) design…rather then a generic “eh.. whatever” like the ascended armors are AND that they look top notch and epic like hell on all races and genders, cause why bother with it when it looks boring or just plain bad on anything but human? Only for the stat change? Yea.. half the appeal basically

That’s perfectly ok as long as they eventually add alternative ways to get legendary armor, like they did with Ascended gear after it was released in Fractals back then.

I hope, Anet also implements into the whole system a way to turn all the ascended weapons and armors and accessoires ect. pp also somehow into precursors under all that new progressive system to get precursors udner the new system ,so that making all those ascended weapons and armors ecrt. don’Ät feel instantly like a massive waste of time and gold, because I can guarantee you, that a massive peep storm will break out here, if this won’t be the case and people invested alot of time, money, gold and whatever else to just learn, that doing all that for ascened stuff was worthless, because you should have spended all that time, and energy better to work directly on legendary stuff.

To to prevent this, its absolutely needed, that anet adds also a way, how players can turn ascended items into precursors to turn them somehow into legendary items that enable them to become able to optionally play around with the gear stats outside of combat, because that ancd the different looks are the only two differences between ascended and legendary equipment.

The step to change from ascended to legendary equipment shouldn’t definetely feel like a total grindfest and wasted time in between.
havign done the effort of craftign for yourself ascended equipment should actually lead obviously to the point, that crafting ascended stuff as preparation should result as reward for that effort, that making the precursors should be a bit esier for you, as when you wouldn#t have crafted for that ascended equipment.
Ascended items should work like some kind of “joker” for the whole precursor making proced whenever you have to put up stuff into the mystic forge, then should work ascended equipment as joker to replace with them the slots, for that you would have normally other thigns into, like a full stack of T6 materials or so.

That way wouldn’t be making first ascendecd items a waste of time and ressources, but in fact a helpful method, witgh that you can siognificantly reduce for yourself the grind for rare materials by using instead the materials you have to turn them into universal usable ascended items that can be used as forge jokers

I think this is awesome. They really need to give different effects based on what legendary things you have equipped. Weapons give footprints. Armor should give auras. Backpacks particle effect?

Well…rightfully so. Non-raiders loved GW2 because there always was an alternative way to get desireable loot. Ascended gear started to drop in Fractals, but was soon added as a Laurel reward or made craftable. This will be the first time ever in GW2 when the most desirable category of an item will be made available for the 1% only. Tbh, if I wanted to be locked out from most good stuff for not being an “elite player”, I could have played WoW. Or any other MMO like it. I love(d) GW2 for…not being like that. GW2 always had hard content (that’s a good thing!), but so far even regular players could get the best (looking) gear in the game.

I have still hopes that ANet will add alternative ways to get legendary armor one day. I guess let’s wait and see for an official word on that.

Seeing everyone having Legendary weapons is bad enough and made the game look ugly. Legendary armor would be even uglier.

They won’t have a stat boost, as stated on the HoT website. They will have the same stats as ascended gear but you will be able to change the stats on the go, provided you are out of combat.

They have always stated that they don’t want a new tier of gear with the expansion and they are sticking to that idea which is rather great IMO.

legendary stats are ascended stats. Last time i checked i didnt need a legendary weapon to do my content either…so whats your point? Want legendary armor? No? Alright, dont get it. Want it? Good, you got a grind and a goal. Also they said like 3 times during pax that they dont want a gear grind…this is grind for convenience and prestige skins with effects. Changing stats on the fly and looking fancy, nothing else and nothing more.

However they also have been very clear since then that there will be no more stat increase beyond the present set for ascended.

Your gear is no more inferior today for Anet having announced Legendary Armor than it was yesterday. Since adding ascended gear legendaries have always had the same stats as ascended. You are not obligated to get legendary armor to get the very best stats in the game. It is simply a prestige & convenience thing.

Jesus Christ. Legendary armor and weapons are the same stats as ascended, there is no other tier of gear. You don’t NEED legendary. At all. It’s just there to be shiny and pretty and for stat swap convenience. You are still on the same playing field if you craft yourself a full ascended set, which is grindy but very easy to do.

Hmm well imagine this. Say you are in a raid and your group has perfectly used its blocks dodges and blinds to evade a bosses damage, but he has an ability that cannot be dodged invul or blinded and will do damage no matter what and you die in one hit because you didn’t have the minimum amount of vitality or toughness to counter it to keep you alive. Now if it was because you didn’t have the required gear with you wouldn’t you think it would be cool to change stats on the fly too give you that slight boost in a stat needed to complete the encounter?

Funny thing is that when ascended was added they said it was always intended, humorous that something they planned around would suddenly create power creep. Unless gasp! they lied to us back then!They’ve also said they plan to increase the level cap at some point and that there won’t be another rarity of gear added. So what do you think will happen now that the final piece of ascended is out? Level cap raised and the grind begins anew because the old stuff no longer has the best stats. Seriously think for a minute what options ArenaNet has to keep people grinding for something and you’ll see the writing is on the wall. I’d wager that current legendaries will be given an upgrade questline/crafting that will allow them to have the new lvl cap stats.

Lengendary weapons were the worst things to happen to the game. I loved playing PvP, loved playing WvW. Then was given the greatest gift of all, the Legend dropped. This caused me to slowly abandon the things I enjoyed doing to instead spend hours (hundreds) grinding for a legendary weapon. Spend every last dime to craft it. Equipped it. Ran around WvW again for a few months, but got sick of the look of Bifrost. I wanted something else. But once you go legendary, you can’t go back, you always have to show it off. So to get a different look I broke down and spent hundreds more hours grinding those aweful Silverwastes to get Bolt. As soon as I got it a few months ago, I decided to take a long break from gw2. I felt like one of the biggest idiots running around with my flashy new Bolt, the most common sword in the game (unofficially). There is no single sword I see more often than Bolt, same for Bifrost. So with this new legendary armor how do you know you’re the best character in the game, you’ll look exactly the same as the guy standing next to you. Armor was one of those cool things, you try to make something to make you stand out, different, show your personality. And when you get sick of it, you switch out to something different. So with Legendary Armor the ‘goal’ of the game is to get the ‘best’ armor that 1000s of other people are running around in. I can imagine a whole guild running around in identical armor.
The kicker here is Anet just cut off a profit stream. They made a ton of money off of new armors and outfits from the gem store. Who is going to buy them now when the goal is legendary armor. Yes, they had weapons in the gem store, but those never seemed as popular as the armor sets. Generally the people that spend the most time in the game are the gem store spenders, now most of those people will instead be working toward legendary armor and backpacks and won’t be purchasing the gem store stuff.
