I want to start by saying, I actually like the process. I’m fine with unlocking the collection, then after filling the collection unlocking the recipe. I’m fine with some of the insane requirements for even the tier 1 precursors. That’s not the mark I think they missed.

The missed mark is the legendary journey. The effort of discovery and the story of finding and making your legendary.

What I mean by this is that right now there is just some dude hanging out in Lion’s Arch who apparently knows everything there is to know about every legendary. He has a stash of everything you could even need in order to build them, and he’s willing to let you in on the secret, for a price. This is supremely lame. I was expecting the Mawdrey experience. I was expecting to get bits of stuff and have to go searching for more, with little to no idea of what I was doing. That is not how this is working out.

I feel like this would have been much cooler if the only thing this guy knew about was a story about each of the legendaries. This story would lead you to a zone, and a part of a zone where you would find a different guy who was unique to each legendary. This is the guy who allows you to progress through the story of your legendary. Even better if there were multiple guys, each of which was only good for one tier of the process. Then it would actually feel like I was the unique individual who was able to put everything together and make the item, while they had only figured out parts of it and couldn’t complete it.

Maybe I’m alone in this, but that’s how I feel. The current setup just takes the mysticism and specialness that should exist in the process out of it. Instead we’re just working for some guy who’s constantly judging us to be not good enough for the next step.

10/10 do agree. The only one so far that i think that feels like a journey is Bifrost, the first part was fun, gathering all the parts to make the star felt like a proper mini quest. I have yet to even look at step two for now, but ill be on that soon enough..

Agree as well. The problem is 1st gen precursors have a market on the TP and Anet do not want to remove that market thus, came a crafting process akin to a shopping check list instead of a true journey (such a wasted opportunity).

I am waiting for the 2nd gen precursors “journey” to be out and if it is like the 1st gen’s, perhaps it is time to walk away because it is clear that Anet values economy more than thematic experiences.

but you know they have to cater to the people who get legendary greatsword recipie and unlock it on their huntsman becouse it says weaponsmith huntsman or artificer on the box aswell….. They wouldent be able to do the journey your talking about.

How is it “catering” to people? It says all 3 crafting professions, it is not unrealistic to expect it to work on all 3 crafting professions.

Uhm yes it is since 2 of the crafts cant create greatswords why should they be able to create the legendary greatsword? Its like going to a chef to fix your car since its a catering truck.

well, this is on Anet’s part to sort things out. We can all use a forge and its call the mystic forge. Should Anet crafted a system that can allow all professions to craft legendary with the mystic forge, it can solve the problem you mentioned.

Perhaps with related crafting profession unlocked can help fasten the legendary crafting if one is afraid that the crafting profession will be rendered useless prior to crafting using the mystic forge.

And thats exactly what we do for legendarys, what we are talking about here is people useing the precursor recipes on chars with no or wrong crafts.

Yes, thats what I am saying, using the mystic forge to craft instead. As such, all can partake in the journey and with the relevant crafting profession, it can be easier/faster or mandatory to the process then people will want to lvl their crafting profession, etc.

They shouldnt be listed then. I wouldnt even consider going to a chef to fix my car. But if something is listed in a game, then i expect to be able to make the entire recipe on that crafting profession.

I keep seeing that they are keeping the cost in line with the “market value” so that market doesn’t crash, but I thought they made crafted precursors account-bound and/or once-per-account. Additionally, the ability is locked behind HoT, so it’s not like you can just whip up a free account and knock out a few that way. Making it a simple gold sink just seems like lazy design, to me, and using the economy as an excuse is even worse. There will always be people who value time over money and buy off the trading post. That’s just a fact.

Because we can’t be angry about both?

Only the new weapon precursors are account bound old weapon precurors can still be sold on the tp.
You can however still only craft one of each as you say.

Yeah, those guys are such morons for assuming the game isn’t explicitly lying to them.
