If I understand this correctly you can train in legendary crafting to gain the ability to make a precursor?

So rather than a lucky drop, or fork over a year of hard earnings to a chinese bot on the TP,

its going to be a huge grind?

Not sure how I feel about that.

I guess it depends on how much of a “crafting grind” it will be.

speaking of which, in regards to masteries once you hit 80, you will be able to choose what your XP bar does? by that I mean it becomes your gliding mastery xp bar? or legendary crafting xp bar?

or will just doing ‘stuff’ in the game be auto assigned to a specific mastery track?

No sentence has summed up these forums with more truthiness than this one (hey, truthiness doesnt come up as misspelled in chrome, neat). But hate it or not, no way around it.

Also, to your question about choosing what your xp goes to, yes you will be able to.

It seems like it (the mastery) will not be really grindy. Considering that there are so many prerequisites, including several items to be collected, you will require to do a number of different activities. Though, how you acquired these items can possibly be grindy, but I have no say about that yet.

But of course this only apply if your definition of grinding is repeating the exact same activities in order to get to your goal.
