1. Base professions are getting the Specialisations
2. Most likely nothing, as far as we know. You’re given the option of using the “Chronomancer” to use new weapons, skills and traits, but that seems to be it for now.
3. Using a Specialisation removes some skills, traits and possibly base class mechanics. Using the Specialisations won’t necessarily be better than the base classes but will instead provide different playstyles and build options.
4. No word on this, probably not with the expansion pack but in a future (or sooner) feature pack, maybe.

Yeah technically we get specializations.. But other than that… The current professions (non specialized) wont get anything?

Probably not, they haven’t announced anything but the expansion pack is geared more towards adding more content through the new class and the new Specialisations system.

Fixing old skills and traits or adding new ones to the base class would feel more natural in a feature pack.

  • So What are the base professions getting?

One specialization, new weapon and armor skins, masteries.

  • What if I don’t wanna play Chronomancer, What is my mesmer getting?

Nothing much aside from the above. I don’t see why they would get anything else though. What you’re saying seems to follow the following logic: Anet gives the mesmer a new trait but I don’t like the trait so what is my mesmer getting?

  • Is there any advantage on playing the base profession over the Specialization, if the latter gets all new stuff? (i.e mechanics, skills, traits)

The specialization is not an upgrade, it is a sidegrade. It gives options, not power. Thus specializations should be as strong as the base profession. And no, as I said, it doesn’t seem like the base profession is getting any new skills, traits and the like.

  • Are we getting some useless traits (ESP. GM TRAITS) Revamped? +1000 Healing power on interrupt anyone?

There will no doubt be a balance and bug update surrounding HoT.

Masteries?

It is also quite likely that existing skills will get a rework due to the changes to stability and such.

This was also my hunch, i think the new UI, new tech is 95% targeted to the revenant and specializations.

So making the current professions fail in comparison.

By “Fail” you mean have a 2-3 year head start in build-crafting?

Look, the guy designing the Revenant is the lead for Warriors, so his reputation for protecting his babies is earned, but there’s still a whole team devoted to level playing field. It won’t be too grossly out of whack by launch.

We’re getting a feature pack before HOT launches (as evidenced by the guy stating that the stability rework is going to be “sooner than you expect”). I’d assume that any skill re-works (ie necros getting resistance from their condi build, warriors getting it from that stance…etc) will be included in that feature pack which will probably also add in all the UI elements that will be new in HoT.
As blizzard has shown, it’s easier to push the “big patch” a few weeks (2-4) ahead of the expansion to fix any UI bugs/wierd stuff BEFORE everyone is playing the hot (tee hee) new content.

Okay, if you say that, what are your ideas when it comes to new stuff for base classes?
Masteries are exempted and the new boons and conditions because all classes are getting them.

Hopefully, useless traits (among other base class issues) will get revamped a bit prior, on, or a bit after the expansion… If not around that time, well then it will probably be never
An expansion (especially one that’s adding new mechanics (specs/new “tech”), conditions, new class, so forth) is a good excuse to revamp/put in work a bit more work into base classes…

So what do you think? I for one think that the revamps wont happen. I mean it will slightly happen because of the new condis and boons but the actual trait by trait revamping wont happen.

I suggest browsing the Ranger CDI for some examples of my work (just search each page for my screen name – there’s a lot to read).

You might also find skimming the Horizontal Progression CDI interesting — you may find early discussion of what became Specializations .
