Less "hard-core" content?
Ummm, I mean you can stay in guild hall. That’s pretty relaxing.
I feel the same way about the new zone(s), and I’m not sure I’ll really spend much time in them. I may never touch the masteries for them, either. It could very well be “lost” content for me.
But the base game is still there, and I’m looking forward to the elite specs and new class. If I can have fun with them in the old zones, that’s still something to look forward to.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
there is no hardcore content in gw2 and there wont be.
what you are describing as “more hardcore” is probably content that requires you to use another key beside 1.
i would recommend a single player game with a difficulty slider tho.

Have some hope for CGC (Challenging Group Content)
As to the OP: you can’t have “less” of nothing.
Before we can have “less” hardcore content we need to have some hardcore content first.
But I get what you are saying, just different players have different ideas of what “hardcore content” means. I think the content is fast-paced and stressful only if you want it to be. If you don’t want to follow the blob that goes from event to event, then don’t do it.
ANet seems to have been moving away from more relaxed game play toward more “hard-core” content for a while
Pahahahahha. This has got to be a troll post. So Silverwastes and Dry Top zerg fests are hardcore?
Living Story instances are hardcore?
Are you sure you havent switched the terms hardcore and casual around?

+1. Best response so far — don’t let how others are playing dictate how you have fun!
I played in the beta, and found it stressfully fast-paced. While I like to engage in that kind of play sometimes, it’s the minority of my gameplay and I spend most of my time re-exploring the world with different characters. I really like to choose the pace of my game-play, and during the beta I felt very forced and unable to take a break.
Is all of the new content like that, as far as we know? Or has ANet revealed any content that is more fun, relaxed, and exploration-focuse"? Did anyone get to play much during the day cycle, and if so, was it more relaxed and explorable? Almost all of my play was at night, and I’m wondering how much that skewed my experience.
Right now, I probably won’t buy unless I get some new information (nothing to do with the ‘controversy’), and I really want to be convinced that there is something I would enjoy in the new content. At the same time, ANet seems to have been moving away from more relaxed game play toward more “hard-core” content for a while – so maybe this is just a design decision, and I need to move on to a game that is targeted at players like me?
Thoughts? Links to information?
About design direction
They are trying to make the players use to a bigger extent the combat system and that means it will go more fast paced.
Night-Day-content
In the new zone the theme its preparation and survivility, the day has more events, but the night its the part where they try to make players feel pressed.
As stated by other post, you can always not do events.
Also things are easier in group, maybe you can explore with guildies.
About the hardcore thing
We have totally different ideas of what its hardcore but i respect that.
In any case thats the reason why most games that appeal to a variety of communities tend to give the hardcore options in instances- even if that backfires me -.- and others like me.
ai is so bad in this game that circle kite + ranged auto will get you through almost anything
currently a Boyfriend main :P
Waiting To ReRoll Mystic & Forget About Tyria

Check the AI conference anet has in the first quarter of this year.

I seen it, but the question remains on where and how much new ai will be used.
Personally I am looking forward to having to work for my shiny, but as the OP has said some would be uncomfortable having to to do so. I guess we will all see when it is released.

Let’s be clear, that’s not what the OP said. What the OP has a problem with isn’t the difficulty of the content, it’s the unrelenting nature of it.
It’s like walking 20 miles with stops to rest and socialize, compared to walking 20 miles without stops to rest. Both are still just as far, have the same hills and challenges, and get you to the same place at the end, but some of us find only the first to be enjoyable.

The open world is populated by (less than) dangerous monsters, go figure. If you venture outside you take a chance of running into them; and honestly a wide open empty world would be VERY VERY boring to 99% of the player base.
Also there are many a settlement, camp, city etc to give you that needed rest.
