Let's Talk About: Specializations
Sounds like tweaks to the class bases. I figure something like.
New Thief — uses cool downs instead of initiative now, F1 is now a profession specific attack
New Necromancer — Different Death Shroud Skills
New Warrior — Different, defensive F skills
New Guardian — different F skills, healing
New Ranger — Pets completely reworked, fufill a pure support no DPS role
New Engineer — Different F skills
New Elementalist — slow attunement swapping, more health, ability to weapon swap
New Mesmer — Different F skills
_
Light:
- Necromancer – Uses a Greatsword (PAX announcement)
- Elementalist – Uses a Sword
- Mesmer – Uses a Shield (video)
I only hope for a greatsword for elementalist.

1. Hard to immerse in a game where a feline has a supportive role? Would kill the immersion, unless your pet gets a new or second F2 skill which suites the breed.
2. Would give the Ele 40 weapon skills? 20-base+20-swap. Seems legit.
All Guardians ever asked for is one of the bows, heck one of their spirit weapons is a bow!
I think it’s inevitable and I think Arenanet are teasing them by not showing Guardians with bows yet.
If this is your point of view on Guardians than mine on Elementalists with Greatsword isn’t that bad either.!

It’s not my perspective, I’m not fussed what happens. I am just reporting what’s been posted in the Guardian forum since the dawn of the game.
To get pedantic about your point: I don’t see why eles shouldn’t have greatsword, except that you don’t have axes or bows as regular weapons and you do have elemental ones. With guardians, they DO have spirit greatsword, hammer and shield and regular ones of the same types. But like I said, I’m not bothered about what happens, I can’t change anybody’s minds anyway.
Well Wooden Potatoes made a speculation video its worth looking into as well

Because the FGS gets so stale and I like the look of a GS on my ele
Conjures make the Ele unique, so Ele wouldn’t be able to get any new weapons anyways unless it’s a conjure or a real “magic-ish” weapon like scepter, dagger, focus or staff. :P
It also doesn’t matter, since Anet probably already have finished their designs and ideas.

I prefer sword more than gs. I would be good with spear or warhorn too.
Btw. if we talk about specializations who think that civilizations in maguuma will teach us it or there will be big-bang and we have specialization after hours of compelting specialization – bar. If they have meaning in that process maybe they are also hint for mechanic of specializations. Medium profesions learn for example from hekets. Light from mursats. Heavy from?
I consider zepheryties as specialization teachers for ele, he will get meele weapon (mace;/) or he will have 3 attuments : sun, wind, lighting.
Probably mostly i would like to see ele that choose metal bender as specialization and use sword.
Someone was posting screen of trio where is one person in light wielding a sword, but that person didn’t have glowing of attument on her hands, so I would no condsider to fast that it is a hint, but i like to think that it is^^

Am I the only one who thinks Rytlock’s “polearm” might actually be the hammer, “The Punisher” http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Punisher
I hate to be the downer, but I think they are just giving different classes new weapons already in game.( with the new mastery skills)
Not the same weapon (trailer has pointy end and 4 crossed spikes), but could be along those lines. Personally I think it is a new staff skin. Would love to see the staff used as a melee weapon.
The animations and the sound certainly don’t appear to support the “spear” theory though. It is being wielded as a blunt weapon. If it were a spear it should be using a piercing animation.
I doubt that sound should be used to determine the weapon type. Because Mesmers use Great Swords but they don’t have slashing sounds when using it. Different classes uses weapons differently. Looks like a spear to me with swinging Melee animation. I doubt they would use a spear like skin to show off staffs in Melee. Most staffs don’t look like a spear. That’s my point
Looks like Warrior and Guardian are the last to figure out what their new weapon will be so here is my speculation:
Warrior: uses staff and becomes a monk style character.
Guardian: Uses one-handed axes and becomes more offensive.
Just my thoughts.
Guardians get Short bow or long bow and become known as Priest/ Priestess
Warriors get Land Spears
No new weapons, thief rifle and condi LB guard coming soon!!!

True.

about people thinking eles might get swords. I don’t think so. if you look at 2:20, in the pvp scene, you’ll see someone in light armor using a bow. at least i’m fairly positive it’s light armor.
Unless it’s female medium radiant armor.
Also, the incarnate wearing woman is dual wielding swords, so I really don’t think eles are getting swords.

I really doubt it. The character that’s wielding a bow doesn’t show any attunement effects and also shoots no elemental effects. It’s most likely a ranger since the autoattack animation looks the same. Besides it would be a dumb move from Anet to give Elementalist a bow while we already have Conjured Frostbow which already has all possible bow skills, can be used for 100% uptime and has one of the strongest Elementalist skills. Conjured weapons should really be the last weapons to be focusing on. Giving Elementalist something they can’t already use is a far better option.
The woman actually only wields a sword and nothing else in her off hand (it’s her coat you are seeing). And since the cast in the trailer consists out of a certain group of players (that are shown through out the trailer). It’s most likely the Elementalist since it otherwise would be the only proffesion thats never been used in the trailer. Besides the Mesmer is already shown in the next scene with a off hand shield.

’Let’s guess specialisations’ looks like a fun game
*Warrior – Commando or Enforcer
Two directions I can think of: one is a more civilian version of an armed and armoured person: like gendarme, police or even mob enforcer; the other diection would be a less magical/nature version of ranger, by whatever name.
*Guardian – Paladin
Guardian is pretty much the D&D cleric, so why not something like the more physical class in D&D?
*Revenant – Lich or Ritualist
A revenant is an undead that kills by mundane means as far as I know fantasy lore, and a lich is an undead magic-user, so those two could go together. I’d prefer a comeback of GW1 ritualist lore though
*Thief – Scout
They’re both stealth archetypes, and rifle would fit a scout
*Engineer – Mechanist
Teaser video looked like it had mechanical summons
*Necromancer – Soulbinder
Don’t know the name for the archetype, but come across fantasy stories with people that raise dead or talk to spirits who also use giant swords to bind souls.
Others have already said spellblade for ele and chronomancer for mesmer, don’t know enough about the archetypes to say anyting more than it sounds reasonable

I feel like a fool, that is her armor. However; mesmers can already use swords, so it’s not enough to rule it out from being a mesmer still.
