Treasure mushrooms? Ley line gliding…?

Come on. It’s a massive amount of experience gated behind an abysmally small amount of content. I wouldn’t mind getting this much experience if I knew I’d get something good out of it, like a whole new area for example. It just seems pointless to do so much effort for so little reward.

When they announced masteries, I was very excited on the prospect of, maybe seeing 25% of all content? With masteries the percentage would obviously increase. Instead we got 50% of content unlocked with no masteries, and 95% unlocked with the first tiers of masteries unlocked.

It honestly saddens me that they released this expansion way to soon. When it’s ready? When they’ve run out of money seems a better punch line for them to use now.

PS: I was expecting to get hyped for the next story arch, but that even fell dry and dead. I bought this game for the story, and the expansion was no exception. Why did they disappoint with the story so much? You have no IDEA how much I wanted to feel hyped for the next season of story/expansion… Instead I got disappointment.

You can’t please everyone. Most people who have been complaining about masteries are complaining that they gate too much content.

I disagree with you on the two masteries you chose as examples. Ley-line gliding is pretty sweet and opens up a lot of map traversal. Stealth detection helps you fight enemies that were previously very annoying, and treasure mushrooms are pretty neat, though a small part of the game. The entire gliding line is great, with each mastery significantly improving your ability to get around.

Masteries that are lacking include the Auric mining, Exalted Assistance, all 3 faction champion fighting ones. I don’t have the Chak acid one or the adrenal mushrooms yet, so TBD how much those help.

Congratulations, this is the first comment I’ve seen that anyone wants more stuff gated behind crap tons of experience grinding.

This sentiment is not echoed by most people so I would not expect that more content be gated.

Anet has stated that they want to expand the story in raids, and with the first raid coming out in less than a week, there you go

Rev, Ele, Burnzerker
“Beware he who would deny you access to information,
for in his heart he dreams himself your master.”

Chak acid is kind of helpful but not worth stressing out over. It removes all of the acid stacks when you dodge.

I found adrenal mushrooms to be very useful if you fight by them. They remove all cool downs on your skills and utilities. This includes summoned weapons such as ice bow. I can spam all my skills to put them on cool down, run over to the mushroom, and they’re all available for immediate use again. The mushroom is on a 30 second timer. I’ve used it for the story bosses in the final instance several times already.

I loved the story.

I think Masteries are well worked out.

You don’t have to put effort towards unlocking the highest tier masteries if they aren’t worth it for you.

Grind-able content has always had an exponential gap for the final tier(s) of unlocking i n pretty much all games. Even in this game, Exotic vs. Ascended is a big cost and energy difference. But grinders love that stuff.

Not everything in the game is tailored towards every single player. There is a broad spectrum of content to appeal to different wants and interests.

Just don’t get gliding top tier mastery if you think it’s worthless.

Or do you prefer higher level cap and maps with designed for different levels? The traditional approach lead to a lot desert maps in the core game. I prefer using Masteries to open up new areas without left the starting ones as deserts.

I just wish more thought was put into it, and it was more of an ‘evolution type progression tree’, rather than this odd system we have. I mean, it’s okay. But there’s nothing remotely exciting about it.

At this point in time I can’t see anyone in future down the track in other MMOs saying something like “remember the mastery system back in Guild Wars 2? It was great! I wish something like that was here in this game”. It’s that sort of thing they (development) should be striving to create with all content.

My only real issue with mastirrs are the jumps in XP for what you get, and the order for some of them. Like being able to train in a factions skills or use of there things before you can talk to them, I’m looking at you wallow’s and mushroom jumping lines. Being able to use these before you can talk to the races is just odd. And as for the Exalted, “Yeah, thanks for brining the egg, the entire point of our existence, you can even visit it when ever you want, but we don’t trust you enough to sell you things, but we gave out some keys to our treasure chests to random pact member for no reason what so ever. Maybe they’ll sell them to you…..”

Maybe I’m expecting too much for a game to make sense.
