On the website it says “Explore new training opportunities for your character beyond level 80” does this mean a new level cap?

confirmed no new level cap, 100% confirmed at the start. Lvl 80 and ascended is still highest tier.

No, they are adding Mastery, which enable you to learn new skills, and also allowing you to choose to add a specialization to your current profession. The example given was for the Ranger. You can teach your ranger a specialization to turn him into a Druid.

I thought they were being a bit evasive about that. (If I remember right they said our max level, max geared characters would stay max level and gear, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be more levels, just that we’ll be able to skip the levelling.)

But the general consensus in-game and on the Twitch stream seems to be that they said we wouldn’t have new levels (or gear).

The new progression system they were talking about with specialisations and masteries (I forget which is which) sounded kind of like the way traits work now. You do the story or beat a boss or complete a map and you get points to spend on new abilities.

It is a “horizontal” leveling system I believe. So you stay 80 but you can get levels in “mastery” seperately just like wvw ranks.
