It would be so great, if we could get Level-Up-Rewards after max level 80.

I personally think, that there should be an additional account wide progression Skill-Tree similar to the WvW-Ranks.
For each level (after level 80), we get a Skill-Point, which freely can be spent for this new Skill-Tree. This Skill-Tree would affect both, PvE and WvW.

Especially long-time-players would benefit from this.

The new Skill-Tree could be similar like this:

  • Increases Power and Condition-Damage
  • Increases Spell-Haste
  • Increases Precision
  • Critical hits have a X% chance to cause a random Condition (Bleeding, Burning, Poison, Confusion, Torment)
  • Increases Ferocity
  • Increases your Spell-Range
  • Increases the Size of Area-Attacks
  • Conditions you inflict last longer
  • There’s a chance of X%, that Conditions you have inflicted on your target, will be spread to additional nearby enemies.
  • Reduces your Cooldowns
  • Increases Vitality
  • Increases Toughness
  • Increases Healing Power
  • Boons last longer
  • Increases Movement-Speed

Sounds a lot like the champion point system ESO has implemented, and it’s not nearly as nice as it may sound at first. Ultimately, it leads to power creep and people with excessive play/grind time being overpowered vs. “normal” players.

Try playing a non-vet (characters below max-level 50) pvp campaign in ESO on an account without level-capped characters, and you will be pount into the dust by characters below your level that are boosted with extra stats/abilities gained by max-level characters on the same account. Even in PvE you’ll soon find yourself outclassed by characters your level or below that just plow through the content thanks to all the cp gathered on their account.

Actually GW2 is doing something very similar with masteries in HoT, allowing for character and account progression after characters reach max level. The main difference to your proposed system is that they don’t give you excessive base stats/combat power but give you access to totally new abilities instead. Personally, I’m in favour of the approach they are taking, and opposed to obvious power grind the way you’ve suggested it.

One of the things that Guild Wars 2 is trying is a game with horizontal progression after level 80, not vertical progression. No extra levels with each expansion. The game bringing max level chars down to near map levels for low level areas. And now the mastery system which allows your char to progress in abilities yet not be stronger in relation to either PvE content or PvP/WvW. Your system would not be different than the conventional plus 10 levels per expansion. It would put in the power creep, even if there isn’t increased levels.

The problems with this is the need to continue with each expansion and the trivializing of old content until it’s worthless for higher levels to visit old maps, unless they simply want to go there to show off how powerful they are.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

The level up rewards after level 80 is the Mastery system, we’re just in limbo waiting for the expansion to come. They probably won’t add any other level up rewards because for people with the expansion the Mastery system is the focus and they want to encourage people to buy the expansion so adding more rewards for people who don’t would be counterproductive.

spvp reward system. Stack that onto your XP bar once 80. So now if you want to go grind out some levels your just grinding progress on a spvp reward bar towards…whatever you selected.

I absolutely love the spvp reward system, I don’t think I would play much of the game mode if it wasn’t for that addicting progress bar towards potentially cool rewards.

So just add that. I was going to suggest jacking paragon levels from Diablo 3, but I don’t see a means to do that in any interesting way without creating a massive power gap in the playerbase.

You could also, with this spvp style progress bar reward system, create special events. Maybe put the last reward as a box potentially containing “most asked for items” like those stupid bunny ears everyone wont shut up about. Then in the gem store sell progress boosters (and keep them there only) so you make money when you do an event that has bunny ears as a potential reward and all those sociopaths go crazy trying to speed level the progress for more chances at it.

Its win win if you ask me. It would give me motive to run through more pve map content too…as I’m really not sure I’m going to be interested in even trying to 100% stuff especially when most that content is boring poi discovery or jumping puzzle vistas that I cant stand.

How is the OP’s general point different from what HoT delivers with Masteries? I think the expansion’s specific ideas are even better: the OP wants character to get more powerful, which is increasing their level-like stats without increasing their level (increases to precision, ferocity etc are all things that happen when gaining levels); HoT offers additional abilities that amount to QoL of improvements (looting, gliding, using mushrooms, etc.).

So, basically, OP, you want the mastery system, but with raw stat bonuses instead of horizontal progression? Am I understanding this right?

Do you know what the Mastery system is? It’s exactly what you’re asking for, but not in a way that will break the game like your suggestion would.
