Leveling MASTERIES is a CHORE
Forum bug 15 chars
In my experience things only become a chore when trying to stick to a deadline you set yourself. My tip: don’t set deadlines. Just play the game and you’ll progress automatically. Choose the activities that are fun for you over those that give more xp.
It’s confusing that people call it a chore, if the content you’re doing to level masteries isn’t enjoyable, that isn’t gonna change after you max your masteries, so just don’t do it. Go back to what you were doing to enjoy the game before the expansion.
And what’s your suggestion for those of us who WANT to play the content we enjoy, the STORY but are locked out due to mastery-gates?
THAT’s when getting masteries is a HUGE CHORE.
How are you locked behind level 2 masteries? They already removed the itzel 4 req.
Anyone’s suggestion would be to play the game, it’d take less than 2 hours (from the moment you first step into the jungle) to get that mastery. After completing Torn From The Sky you need to unlock the first mastery in order to continue to the next quest in it, the Story quest completion for TFTS tells you that.
So, I’m locked out of the Story till I grind enough XP to unlock Gliding!
Omg… that would literally take you like 15 minutes… if that is too much effort for you then you should probably look at uninstalling and going back to console games…
I think he’s just being sarcastic to ilustrate how ridiculous the whining is.
We are not “whining”, just stating the facts and our opinions.
If we wanted “grinding” we would go and play a Korean mmo.
(Off to grind for a bit !).
You consider gliding 1 a grind? You’re trolling right?
No I don’t, and not any of the first 2 or 3 masteries, how dare you call me a troll.
But once you get further down on 4+ then it takes much longer to level the bar up, then it becomes a grind.
Plus the fact of not knowing which to do first.
Troll indeed, what a cheek !
I am offended.
I was replying specifically to the poster complaining about having to grind gliding 1…
Grinding masteries has become a hated thing to me. I have little desire to log in any more as I know I cannot complete anything else until I grind out theses stupid masteries. I guess a break is in order… I will check back in with the game in a month or so and see if anything has changed for the better.

You can still participate in the majority of the HoT content as only a few event require masteries. Even then, those required are not that high up there.
Nuhoch II – Wallows
Exalted I – Exalted Markings
Itzel IV – Itzel Poison Lore
Gliding II – Updrafts
This should allows you to complete most events, get map completion, and complete the story. That’s about 8.3M XP or 33 levels. If you did all the meta event chains for All of the maps, finished the story, and completed map completion on one character; you’d have all that you needed unlocked. Hardly a grind if you only do everything once. Any artificial restrictions, such as choosing not to do this or that, can’t be held against HoT.
Edit: Just realized something that will likely be brought up and I want to clarify. When I said levels, I meant times leveled after hitting level 80. So this would be maxing the XP bar 33 times while level 80 before the expansion.

Omg… REALLY? ! He just stated do three things that have been KEY components to gw2 since it’s inception THREE YEARS ago, mapping , story, and events and you are complaining that’s unreasonable or some big shocker?! REALLY?!

There’s varying definitions of what players considered a grind. I went with the most extreme definition where anything done more than once is a grind. Yes, at least one person has used that variation of grind before.
Aside from what I listed there are adventures and general exploring that can be done including doing the miscellaneous achievements. The same type of grind that was in the core game, regardless of your definition, exists in HoT. If you dislike grind, you’re playing the wrong genre.
I don’t see it as a chore… I just have no idea what the kitten I’m doing. I’m in the maguuma place trying to find and get to all the hero points and masteries, never really see people at events so I ignore them….
I levelled my revenant via tomes and crafting so my map completion is like 5%. Any tips on fastest way to do this? Spent 3 hours farming and am still at my first mastery 35% with 11 mastery points spare :/

XP boosters and doing meta event chains with players focusing on killing as many mobs as you can. Dragon’s Stand is great for this.
For VB, I haven’t had any issue doing the hero point challenges. Only 3 of them require people. One is just a veteran plus friends with the rest communes. AB has three easy communes with one requiring wallows.
TD has an easy commune near the start if you can use updrafts. The one in the Asuran hidden lab as well as Chak hive are communes and relatively easy to get to.
The ones in DS are all commune with 2 requiring you to beat the map meta. One requires a leap unless you beat the meta. There are three that require your map to have progressed to the blighted towers event.
MP are easy to get at the beginning. I suggest using Dulfy’s guides and go for the strongboxes. You can then do the easier ones such as Hidden Amphibian and the Mushtoom one in AB. Adventures are also a good way to get MP but you’ll need silver and gold. Several if them are relatively easy to get gold.
