So we know ANET is bundling the original game inside the expansion but does this mean if/when we purchase the expansion we get one copy of HoT and one copy of GW2? Will we get a second account if we already have one or is it just ignored and only HoT playable? I had a gander at the FAQ’s and so far nothing seems to say either way.

TD;LR – Does buying HoT give a second account to players with a primary account?

They really need to change the wording on their buy page. It’s way too vague.

Basically, Heart of Thorns comes with one game code. If you add that game code to an account that doesn’t already have the core game, you get the core game “free” as a bonus. If you add that game code to an account that already has the core game, all it does is add Heart of Thorns to your account.

From what has been said, no. You can buy the xpac and start from scratch with your new core copy, or you can buy the xpax, add it to your already established account and not get a core copy.

So what happens to the core copy you buy with HoT? Is it counted as free if you don’t get any use from it?

That sucks. So it’s now a decision of stick with the account I put time and money into or start from scratch… Wow the wording is too vague

It’s not counted as free because you don’t get it. If you decide to use it, it is part of the bundle so it is still not free.

You are getting nothing for free no matter what route you take.

You can exchange most of the time gate stuff to materials you can trade to main account.

You buy HoT and register a new account. Your current account is now your second.
If you don’t care about achievements and other stuff, of course.

But what all the second account fuss is about? Daily chest? But isn’t most stuff from is account bound, so you won’t get it for your main.

Laurels can be turned into t6 mats which = money.

You can also use the character slots on your second account to get daily bonuses/boosts of income, like leaving them at a gathering farm/rich node (like potatos or strawberries), or by leaving them at the end of the jumping puzzle in lion’s arch (at level 21) for a chance at silver doubloons (what I do).
