Well, early ceratopians were bipedal, so these Tyrian examples may have simply evolved down a different path…

Velociraptors as in the actual name of a dinosaur. Raptors is a shortening of the word and a type of animal. Eagles, hawks, owls, and buzzards are all in the “raptor” family.

It’s a nitpick, but Dondagora’s etymology is actually closer to being correct. The dinosaur was basically named “speedy raptor”.

Ironically, given how closely related dromaeosaurs are to birds, the use of the term ‘raptor’ is not actually a reference to birds of prey, but to the common Latinesque root roughly meaning “one who takes by force”. So “velociraptor” basically means “one who takes by force and with speed”.

Incidentally, the word for a certain crime that would likely be censored also comes from the same root.
