I wasn’t exactly sure where to put this, I figured this was the best place.

I got the base game essentially at launch, but I don’t plan on actually pre-ordering the expansion, I’m going to wait until Christmas before getting it.

What I’m really confused about is the whole free character slot benefit for those with the base game. The way the website words it sounds like I’m only allowed this free slot if I pre-order only, most sources only say I just have to buy the expansion.

So which is it? Do I just have to purchase the expansion or do I have to pre-order it to be given this benefit that really should be available to everyone who’s had the game before that January date?

The deluxe and ultimate collections include a character slot as part of their package. Also, for current owners of the game, there is a pre-purchase incentive that you’ll receive a character slot regardless of which edition you purchase.

The character slot will not be available after launch.

At this point the free character slots are for prepurchasing before the expansion starts only. It is unknown what the price or what any bundled items will be after the expansion. If the character slots go on sale, you could always buy one so you’ll have one for sure.

Really not the answer I wanted to hear, but thanks for the clarification.

Pre-order: deluxe and ultimate get 2 char slots, basic gets 1 char slot.

After launch: deluxe and ultimate get 1 char slot, basic gets none.
