Seriously, just as the title has stated. Make scribing guild bound. I don’t care if you make it a physical part of the guild hall itself in the form of upgrades (which it should have been in the first place!)
Right now players have the ability to abandon a guild after that guild has worked and paid for them to level up their Scribing. We are already seeing posts of players selling their Scribing services, which only serves to slow individual guild efforts.

Anet, please fix this before it becomes a huge issue.

They should just fix the levelling cost.

I 100% agree, anet excuses the costs by saying its a guild effort but then a single player unlocks it and is free to leave the guild? Imagine if a player could leave the guild and take the workshop upgrades with them to their new guild. This is basically the same thing.

Half-way solution, don’t have the guild invest resources for Scribe into a single person. While inconvenient if you’re looking to get access to high level Scribe stuff, there’s less collateral if they decide to up and leave the guild.

The thing I don’t get whatsoever is that the stuff you guys are saying is like initial spitball session type stuff for design. ArenaNet has said time and again that player protection is paramount to them. In game gold is real money in a lot of cases. Aside from the fact that scribing and guild halls in general are just a flagrant and blatant gold sink, with how it was implemented, it feels like(keyword: feels)zero forethought was given to protecting players money in this whatsoever as it pertains to scribing. I mean, our banks are on lock down because they are insanely thoughtful about protecting their own money when it comes to gold sellers, but protecting players money isn’t actually a paramount concern or this would have been factored in to the design as a foundational thing.

+1’s to all of you.

I’m afraid it’s too late to make it guild bound, too many people have spent too much time, money, and effort on getting to where they’re at.

It would be better to just have them rework Scribe, and make it much more in line with the other crafts. Yes, that means that those that have leveled already did so at far too high of a cost, but there’s no perfectly fair fix to this problem. This is simply the one that’s the least unfair to the most people.

Scribe needs a total rework, possibly including scribe workstations in the cities, and a look at using it for other things in the future. (Player housing decorations, for example.)

It’s been suggested a couple of times. Never seems to get a lot of traction. …

I think scribe topics don’t get much traction because only the few who’ve tried it see how horrible it is. Those folks warn-off anyone they know who attempt it. Thus, the population truly effected by scribing is tiny.

Whoever created website like gw2crafts.net needs to put out a guide for leveling scribing.

The discoveries are in the API now, so the guides should be written.

We should have actual numbers when we talk about scribing. I think people will not really understand how scribingvs, until they see those numbers.

Good point. Even in a guild that has lots of people donating, no one will notice the issue until/unless all of the current scribes vanish (for whatever reasons).

This is not a systemic issue. This is a guild management issue. If anything we need more systems like scribing that encourage player interreliance, not less.

Until HoT, too much of GW2 was all about “me, me, me” with no real incentives to rely on or cooperate on any sort of long term projects with other players.

Guilds, as permanent associations of players, are the perfect place to put systems qhich encourage or require players to foster long term trust and reliance, and scribing, as a basic concept is a good fit for that. It creates cosmetic items and functional items at a high cost that only really pay for themselves when large numbers of players are utilizing them.

Scribing’s problem is that it is too expensive to level, and that the functional items are too expensive to justify their limited durations. If scribing gave out abut 400% of its current crafting XP, decoration costs were halved, and the costs for banners were dropped or the duration of banner effects were raised it would be a perfect system.

Furthermore, scribing schematics should be tradable. That alone would fix a lot of the percieved problems with scribing, by allowing people to just buy from scribes at cost, give much clearer economic metrics for the cost of schematics, and provide an avenue for scribes to provide gold and resources to their guild directly, or for guilds without scribes to acquire those schematics.

It’s easy to forget how expensive this stuff is, but it would be impossible to ignore when you found people selling chairs for 20g on the AH simply to break even.
