Masteries are a cheap trick
This expansion sold to us on pre purchase and without us knowing what we were buying has eroded the trust of players who have been loyal to this company since guild wars 1.If anet thinks its pre purchase sales are an indication of success.Id suggest they wait till the next time they try flog us a pig in a poke.
Hopefully what has been, “eroded,” by the consequences of buying a product sight unseen is consumer foolishness.
I think that HoT has a lot of content. The 3D (adding the vertical dimension) world is pretty revolutionary for MMORPG and will be the future of these games. As for masteries they are just a way to add leveling without increasing the level cap.
im at mastery lvl 163 and still dont thing adding 65mill xp grind is good for this game.
adding a few lvls would have been the honest way to do it.

It’s hardly revolutionary, and other games have done it better.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
If you don’t like the game, it’s sufficient to just say it’s not your cup of tea. I’m not sure why that dislike needs to be justified by finding a “metric” that shows that the game doesn’t have what you wanted.
It doesn’t matter if HoT has a lot of content or a little, if you don’t like the content that is there. It doesn’t matter if ANet listened to the right customers or to the wrong ones, if you don’t like how the game has evolved.
For me, HoT introduced a lot of stuff I wanted, a lot of stuff I didn’t know I wanted, and some stuff that I can’t stand. Plus, it’s stretched me to learn new things, get better at combat, introduced me to raids and new metas. So for me, that’s been a good value.
The rest of the stuff… eh, I don’t care. It’s there and I can avoid it (including grind), because I don’t feel I need to rush to get shinies. I’ll get them eventually.
tl;dr don’t like the game? don’t play and tell ANet what you don’t like. No need to justify your dislike.
It’s funny. I have mostly everything mastered and I still spend a lot of time in HoT zones…because I like the zones. I find myself spending less time in core zones because they’re too easy.
I don’t suppose it occurred to you that the reason there are people in those zones is because they’re having fun.
See…when they started talking about masteries, they sounded a lot like the rep grind from GW:EN to me. And, from my perspective, they pretty much are the same thing. The primary difference is that I’m gathering “mastery points” instead of hunting down the shrine that gives me the buff for whatever creature I’m killing.

Jump and run is not new in any way, Giana Sisters and Turrican are jump and run games that are probably older than the majortiy of people here, not to speak of arcade Donkey Kong. Maybe it is not new in MMOs, but that does not make it more bearable.
If HoT is the future of MMOs everywhere, this future will have to take place without me.
