I know we’re all getting to grips with the new guild hall stuff, but I was wondering if any other people/guilds have been taken aback by the huge volumes of grind-intensive materials needed for the Scribe profession? Some key items like resonating slivers appear gated by weekly guild missions (in return for crafting the most piffling tat – Writ of Basic Accuracy and Basic Strength are unbelievably wasteful), and other materials are needed in volumes which come close to guild hall upgrades (around 500 piles of silky sand for the most basic furniture items, amongst many other materials).

I didn’t expect Scribe to be just like any other crafting profession, but as it stands I can’t see why it’s a profession at all. We’re already talking of just having a single designated guild Scribe who we funnel materials to. It might as well be part of the guild hall upgrade system.

It only gets worse.

The resonating fragments aren’t even craftable. The guild decorations vendor 1 only sells the first five basic decorations. Baskets, crates, tables, chairs, and bookshelves. These you can barely do anything with as far as your scribe goes. You can’t even buy candles to make jack-o-lanterns from the basic-level decorations vendor.

Or, to put it bluntly, the basic decorations aren’t available from the basic decorations vendor, which is stupid. We’re not yet sure what all you have buy to get more decorations available at the vendor, but we’ll be getting there soon to find out.

also, every piece of furniture you make doesn’t just go into your furniture inventory for the guild. You have to parse it through the resonator. A chair or table upgrade takes 3 hours. Also, crafted furniture goes straight into the guild resonator inventory, where you can’t use it. This means you can’t sell it on the TP, despite in the crafting screen being able to right-click and choose ‘buy on TP’.

Right now, with the basic decorations being potentially gated behind massive upgrades to the guild hall and the marketplace vendors, and the complete lack of any clue on how to craft/create/steal/buy resonating fragments, the scribe is largely gated at around 150 or so.

We’ll be unlocking a few experimental wvw scribing schematics that we don’t have yet to see if any of them fall into the sub 150 club so that we can potentially level scribe off of those.

I liked GW2 crafting becouse it was rather easy and didn’t need one part A, B, C to do part F and have part D and E to do part G to do Part H and J to finally make a pen. … But now it is… Rather unhappy with Scribing.

Also, it takes two Linen Supply Sacks to make a single Supply Drop schematic. That’s 400 flax fibers. This is utterly preposterous

In general, i agree, the amount of mats needed to level scribe and craft useful stuff for the guilds, seems a little out of whack.

The only reason I could come up with for Anets decision to slow down progress in leveling scribe (via needed upgrades/vendors and mats reqs) is that they were afraid it would create to much demand for items needed in the higher tiers to early after launch and would therefore be too much of a competition for materials for the guild hall upgrades, which mostly need t5 and t6 mats and ascended crafting.

They gated demand for some new and old materials behind various gates, that require personal, account or guild specific progression checks, so new markets could build up a decent amount of supply before their demand sets in or old markets arent disrupted too heavily immediately.

2 good examples are pigment for the scribes, brown has the highest value already because its used in the first ink sets available for scribes and the gem stones that are needed to craft the new gear stats. Most of the recipes for the new insignias and inscriptions require you to unlock special vendors and earn map specific currency, which many players didnt have right after launch.
So those mats could build up a decent supply before actual demand for them sets in.

Low level scribing involves alot of common t1 mats, copper, raw leather, jute and green wood.

Prices for those mats have risen significantly since launch. If the scribe profession wouldnt have its progression so heavily gated, we would see the same demand for t2-6 common mats, which we see for t1 now.
That would directly impact other parts of the game, especially ascended crafting.

Even if Anet would lower the mat requirements for scrbing, I wouldnt be so sure that it will make demand for those mats go down. If you only need a 10th of the mats, probably 10 more players than usual would start scribing.

While this seems like a logical conclusion, and if this was the purpose, that’s cool. But wouldn’t it be nice if they let us know?

Not sure when adventure games became about being told everything rather than finding out by yourself.

I was expecting Scribe to be a profession I could level up on my own to make myself attractive to a guild by having, but instead it’s something that you basically have to dedicate yourself to a dedicated guild in order to even become adequate at.

We’re already talking of just having a single designated guild Scribe who we funnel materials to.

That’s the point of the system. It’s a guild-centric crafting profession meant to be supplied by a guild, as what we make is primarily for the benefit of the entire guild.

It’s expensive for this exact reason. If it were cheaper, there’d be little reason to have a guild-centric profession as everyone in the guild could easily just make their own stuff.

Well the only problem I am having (my guild is funding my scribing craft) is the Discoveries, it’s like nothing works or mixes? I don’t even know where to begin with that since that is how you level the fastest through discoveries. :|
It’s annoying.

they should make the backpacks tradeable then as well, that way the scribe can make the backpacks for others that are sending mats to the scribe.

It is. You can’t train it or practice it without guild hall upgrades, and many of its recipies are guild hall upgrades.

Crafting backpacks are fashion bonuses for crafters, “prestige badges”

The point of crafting has never been to make backpacks. Backpacks are simply a bonus for skilling it to show off “yeah I ranked up X craft.” It’s also why they’re all account bound.

That said, if you really want the l400 scribe pack there’s nothing stopping you from attempting to skill it for just that, or hey, maybe it’s one more reason to be your guild’s scribe! Crafting pack skins are just like elite spec skins. They’re just “badges” that aren’t really the main focus of progressing it.

Oh i wish our guild was doing just one scribe, but noooooo they dont think thats a good idea, so they are just letting random people level it up. its not great system to be honest. >.<

That seems more like a guild thing than a systemic problem really. As a system it seems pretty well thought out, and I’d like to see more things added to the game that create “jobs” for different people in guilds that aren’t just permissions. Promotes more codependance and teamwork IMO.

I think it’s pretty sensible to have more specialized crafting disciplines. Might even be neat to see something like a wvw-specific discipline, fractal specific discipline, guild shipwright for multiperson boats in a naval battle expansion, etc. in the future. I think they pretty much have the basics of personal gear crafting (the stuff people actually need in a personal sense) covered.

I mean the trainer does warn you that scribe is primarily for guild stuff, and not for you alone before he teaches it to you.
