Media Coverage of the HoT Price Issues
And to make matter worse Chinese version was just release what? year ago? now think if they release this expansion next year at the same price they bought it for.

LOL, let’s be real here. Chinese server is like dying, publisher just don’t care about players and there are hacks everywhere. They are straight up selling legendary as last breath cash grab. Chinese server will shut down in a few month I can guarantee you that.
Kotaku unbiased? Are we really talking about Kotaku here? What’s next? Polygon not being a clickbait?
It’s good that media is catching up so Anet takes notice that people is watching, but don’t take these articles seriously because most of them are just made so the view counter go up with polemic topics. Same for youtubers… I would say we can trust Jim Kitten Sterling and Totalbiscuit. Even if you don’t agree with what they say, they usually make a point and are pretty open about their biases.

Eh, perceptions of Kotaku aside (NOT opening up that can of worms) I think THIS particular article is a very fair summary of the drama currently on the forums, and it clearly sums up both sides of the argument.
It’s actually a bit interesting to see the comments from Non Gw2 players and the fact that they’re pretty divided on the issue as well.
Eurogamer is, I think, a bit more level headed. It’s good that they’re getting involved.
Who knows, maybe ArenaNet will take their heads out of the sand and actually respond to this instead of silently watching. They’re probably still hoping it’ll all go away though.
I’m browsing through the Kotaku comments and it’s all pretty much comparing GW2 to WoW and FF expansions. They aren’t even f2p. And some comments sound like they don’t even play the game. Some just bash the game altogether. I never liked Kotaku anyways…

One thing that bugs me is the people that don’t see the problem keep saying things like:
“We don’t know what’s in the expansion.”
Um… they covered that the last few months. Maybe do some googling? Sorry but expecting tons and tons of extra content to magically appear in it is pure wishful thinking.
“We should be paying MMO monthly fees anyway. Who cares about price?”
If you think that’s not stepping in it when talking to the original GW community… oh boy.
“People are entitled! Backlash is undignified!”
Right. Try ripping off any other community and you get the same.
“It’s fine that there’s no character slot and that for some reason new players get kitten savings and the playerbase gets no bonuses at all. I like spending money!”
Aren’t you special.

Hmm… come to think of it, I should change the title so this can be a general discusion of the media coverage and not just the one article.
We’ll probably be seeing more soon.
I like the article on Massively. I think it really covers most of the relevant points with a good, rational yet not numb tone.

that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Ohh I’m just going to jump right in and believe anything the media says.. If anything the media just brainwashes people or makes things seem worse then they really are.

Culture is designed to brain wash people. Being a free thinker tends to be useless you can get others to agree with your view point.
I think that the article on eurogamer is the best so far, because it reflects the main problem – a group of (potential) buyers getting preferential treatment. I am glad that the issue is getting attention in the media
Kotaku & Eurogamer are one of the few sites no to display HoT-dedicated advertising.
Hence their lack of Bias.
And why are these sites actually making topics to talk about the rage from players? Is it not so they get more views to there sites and actually make money from the ads they display?

I read that article, and it pretty much is right on the dot. I personally think that Anet is keeping quiet for now because they either hope it will shimmer down OR they are preparing an appropiate response that doesn’t upset the community and doesn’t bring their vision of the expansion (and the packages) in danger.
Either way, i’m not buying into the whole expansion hype Anet has been trying to create (oooh, it’s going to be so awesome…. right, i’ll w8 and see first.) nor am i inclined to preorder something i have no knowledge of how big (or small) it’s going to be.
Just consider what teh expansion is going to have according to Anet :
- guild halls ( don’t really care about it)
- maguuma jungle ( how big or small ?)
- specializations (bleh)
- revenant class (…)
- stronghold game mode (not interested)
- new borderland (amazing. serious. no, i mean it. serious. :s)
You can tell from the above how interested i am. Def. not enough to preorder without WAY more info.
My 2 cents. thats about what i’m willing to pay for what has been shown.
p.s. : i’ve only played this game for a few months, so i didn’t get 3y worth of content or events and the likes.

If there weren’t a “rage” to talk about in the first place…. it has become big enough to get noticed, which in turn gets them interested enough to talk about it and get more viewers.
And the longer Anet waits, the bigger it gets.

To your first point: Yes they have been give us a lot of info. The problem is that what they showed us does not equal $50 in the eyes of many. What you are seeing hope, people are just hoping there is more that hasn’t been revealed to justify that cost and not destroy the faith they have in Anet.
Second: There are some people that don’t realize how much money the gemstore puts into Anets pockets. Hint: It’s way more than what sub fees would bring in.
Third: Those people don’t know what entitled means or how to use the term properly.
Last point: Many don’t know the value of money and buy impulsively. They would probably pay $50 for the expac if all it had was a stupid hang glider and a pet rock. Buyers remorse will take care of them.
