Hey guys

Do you think they will fix the meta and make support builds more viable and maybe even needed in dungeons? I´m asking this cause I´m trying to craft a staff for my to be druid, and would like to know which stats to put on the item?

Also do you think the meta will have a place for the druid, or will it just be another necromancer? I can´t see what a druid would bring to the plate in dungeons?

Not wanting to reason on your parade but I would hold off on creating anything for the new specialisations until they release more information on those specialisations. Anything we say is wild speculation right now.

When you think Druid why do you think Necro instead of Ele? Nature usually has more to do with Elementalist than it would a Necro. That being said, nature based skills would probably be more about OT effects and CCs. If the current FotM continues(which I doubt after an expansion) and the “burn it down quick” playstyle still works Druid would probably just be relegated to healing.

When i related it to necro i meant that they are barely played in pve. And yes, maybe i should just garther the mats and wait for more information :/ But i do really hope that druids have some form of high support, the ranger to me is lacking a bit in that category.

Hey, I play a Necro (and regret that it’s my only 80 currently)! Druid thematically in other games has typically been a support type role. I’m with Pifil in that I’d hold off any more speculation since we know very little about it though.

Since any answer currently will be just guesses or speculations, here we go.
ANet uses several ideas from D&D, like the GW2 ranger feels a lot like D&D ranger, the guardian is just like D&D Cleric and so on, following that line D&D Druid is very powerful, have access to some control magic and the main feature is the shapeshift ability and depending on the form you can hit harder, tank more, etc, maybe GW2 druid mechanic will be shapeshifting and the “offensive form” will be really good.

In 2.5 years they didnt do kitten for fixing the zerk meta and making support/defensive stats more viable.
Guess it’s too much effort to make/change dungeons and skills for that.

So no, i dont hold my breath when it comes to that.

Since Meta build use A LOT of support, this sentence only mean that either you don’t really know the game or you would want another type of support than the game focus on or that you would only want to do support. Watch the video of Nike that Artemis posted.

Druid in now way implies support. Druid implies nature based abilities. For example, morphing into a ferocious bear and tearing your foe limb from limb. Tearing your opponent apart with a fearsome storm. Summoning a horde of wild animals to consume your enemy. Enchanting/strengthening your staff with nature magic and bashing the kitten out of your enemy. As far as support, one would expect the druid to have methods of triggering adrenaline surges (might stacks, furor, maybe vigor), enhancing natural armor (aegis), corroding the enemy’s armor (vulnerability), and generally providing the useful stuff for a dungeon.

What I wonder is if anet will have the new specializations better fit the meta and allow the player base to really play what they want. Maybe the necro and ranger specializations will be just as useful in fractals as a guardian or mesmer might be. what else are some of the professions lacking do you think?

Necro lacks the standard tools for speed clears :

  • A true cleaving weapon
  • Party wide boon support

Other stuff I’m thinking about :
Guardians : Viable condi spec could be nice
Eles : viable condi spec could be nice as well

First thing is that i don’t think specializations will force your classe to a designed “rôle”. Which mean that Anet won’t throw us (out of nowhere) a trinity with specializations.
Actually, every classes can fill every role of the so called trinity, it’s just a matter of Build.

Now, in my opinion, druids with staves will most likely have more access to controles skills. Probably a mix beetween ele water attunement staff and ele earth attunement staff to fit the picture of a druid that we got from GW1 profecy.

As for the “meta” whatever they do, they won’t destroy pvp balance by buffing defensives attribute. It’s more likely that they will add more complexity in the fight designed instead of forcing player to look for a “healer”. The easier step here would be to force player to try to enhance their controle on rampaging mobs instead of cornering them. (For example, i’m sure nobody would want to zerk corner some of the nasty mordrem they gave us recently. Fixing it in a place before we can hurt him is obviously a better solution.)

By the way, if I’m trying to use the same logic I used on necromancer for it’s specialization, Druid could become something like that :

New mechanism :
While in druid specialization, player can’t switch pet. Now F4 force your pet in passive mode following you while granting you it’s power.
depending on how deeply you ’re trait you will have a choice for different effect (which you can obtain only if your pet is alive). You can use 3 points to obtain these effect :

Marksmanship :
1 point : gain 15% of your pet’s power.
2 point : opening strike now also cripple for [duration]
3 point : You can use F2 at 1200 range. (ranger actually performing the attack not the pet)

Skirmishing :
1 point : gain 15% of your pet’s precision.
2 point : gain 10% movement speed.
3 point : switching weapon grant you aegis. (yes this traitline is all about switching weapon )

Wilderness survival :
1 point : gain 15% of you pet’s toughness.
2 point : Add 2 stack of torment for [duration] on F2 use.
3 point : shouts work on you.

Nature magic :
1 point : gain 15% of your pet’s vitality.
2 point : increase F2 boon duration by 20%
3 point : your pet become the owner of your spirit utility. You now only have access to spirit active effect that occur around your pet. Reduce CD on spirit active effect by 20%.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

Interesting ideas. This also recalls to mind the idea ArenaNet had talked about of a ranger elite skill that let you use all your pets at once. It may not be practical to do exactly that, but a mechanic that gives a druid multiple pets (perhaps the secondary ones are weaker and cannot be controlled by the standard commands) would be intriguing.

Just a random PuGgle.

And it’s this mindset that keeps the meta where it is. Maybe the monsters of Maguuma will change this a bit.

maybe they manage to solve the condition problem, so that at least those kinds of builds and sinister stats would become sort of viable

The meta isn’t broken. It’s a response to cheesy/broken encounters. Fix encounters, meta will respond. The only thing I doubt is that trinity clowns will ever accept that a good dodge is better than some silly heals in this game.

Ordinarily, I’d agree with that. However, it is an expansion we’re getting, and that means a lot of things can change. We’re getting monsters that’ll be too tough to defeat unless we tear off their outer bark; perhaps conditions such as poison or bleeding will work better on these creatures, especially after the bark is torn. Situations like that turn raw damage or DPS into something that just isn’t as viable, and may change the meta. Maybe I’m dreaming here, but I’d rather be an optimist than a pessimist.

ohcome on, you know exactly how it was meant. and the reasons for the meta are part of the meta, at least to me.

@rognik: okay, it’s more likely with an expansion, assuming they take their time with it and dont have to rush it out like the living story.
im still careful with expectation when it comes to anet.
