All of Heart of Thorn’s maps have metas that will fill up the map in any decently organised shard.
Which means that, if, for whatever reason, you disconnect, you’re not going to get back into your shard, because a whole horde of people is constantly spamming the “join map” button.
This is a known fact. I can hardly imagine ArenaNet not being aware that this happens, given the way they designed these four expansion maps in Heart of Thorns.
Disconnecting, crashing, etc from any of these meta maps can mean you lose upwards of an hour of progress, sometimes up to two hours as you continually help build the map on their timed cycles.
So, why doesn’t the map at least hold onto your explicit map slot for 60 seconds? Most small DCs and crashes I encounter are tiny hiccups that throw you back to the Character Selection screen. It only takes however long the map needs to load for those cases to rejoin their map. Given that it literally destroys hours of game time to be locked out of a map you’ve spent a good deal of effort on, not making sure there is some tiny guarantee of re-entry just seems stupid. The game’s shard system should offer some limited protection against those sort of issues.
Having to spam “join map” on someone in your party for the slim chance you can actually kill the boss you’ve been working towards for the better part of your evening’s game time is not really acceptable to me.
And yes, before you ask, I am using the 64bit client, etc etc. I’m aware that reducing crashes might compensate for the issue, but that doesn’t change the notion that it is an extremely infuriating element of the game that really should have been fixed long, long ago, since it was present as early as the revamped Tequatl fights and the Silverwastes.
