So, the preview codes for Mistward armor are finally available, and it looks fantastic except for one thing…….

The “butt cape” for the Mistward armor leggings uses an entirely different color rule from any other part of the set – and, indeed, any other cloth part of any heavy armor set. The result is a much, much lighter color than anything else on the set. If one uses Charred, it gets dyed a light brown or even cinders-esque color. If one uses Cinders, it’s even lighter than that.

The example dye on Dulfy, Midnight Ice, forms the equivalent of a standard “Black” dye, which in Guild Wars 2 is more of a dark grey.

Worse still, the butt cape is tied to the same dye slot as the scale pattern on the sides of the character’s legs – which do follow normal dye rules. As a result, there is no method of separating these two uncooperative parts of the same armor set. This is a problem even when wearing the complete set, but when mix-and-matching, it becomes ridiculous.

There have been other good armor pieces that have been ruined by their failure to meet normal dye rules. AC medium boots stand out here. But at least these parts worked with their own set. Here, we have a set that doesn’t synergize with even itself on account of this, and when previewing it, it even has a wasted dye slot that could have been used to separate these and create more color variety (such as say…. a blue or red butt cape with charred leg scales.)

You’ve got time and this should be a pretty easy fix for a major upcoming armor set.

The female pieces look like Arah Token reskin of the heavy armor w/ exposure to sideboobs. That wee bit exposure alone guarantees some sales. I did not like this armor over Arah counterpart. And Arah pieces dye well for my taste.

From what I can tell, the Dye slots haven’t been totally mapped out correctly yet..

If you have some armors on that have 4 dye channels for example, channel 1, 2 and 4 are used but not 3.

I would say this might have been intended, to keep people from playing around with them too much, and remember, most of these links don’t function properly yet (IE: Give a accurate tootip link), the armor could still be in the last few polishing phases.

If anything, this would make early critique more pertinent. I’m voicing the direction that I would like for them to take the armor in the last few polishing phases, if, indeed, there are any polishing phases left for it.

I agree 100%. There is honestly no reason why each and every armor piece shouldn’t utilize 4 dye slots and use them intelligently by regions. You have the channels, put them to use. It only takes a bit more time in the grand scheme of things and offers infinite more customization for armor.

…It only takes a bit more time…

I wonder. I notice that early armors tended to have more dye channels (at least if they were gem store armors.) I’d be interested to know how much work is really involved.

True! Did not think of it that way… however, I got some new info…

Apparently, certain dye channels are not the same across all armors… For an example. the Carapace Boots 1st dye slot will not actually dye the Mistforged Boots, in fact, none of the dye channels on the Carapace Boots will.. However, the Phalanx Boots 1st dye channel can…

Makes you wonder how the dye system is really set up in the background…

Mind you, I’m not saying this is bad or anything, just interesting!
