“Living story mobs are waaaay too strong”
Good. That is what I expected.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

no what? i never said to nerf it.
I never really post, but I made the effort to login and verify the new IP to specifically say that this post makes me kittening sick…
Nice one Anet, now dial it up a notch, force people to think and actually do more than equip PVT and zombie through it all!
They melt for a reaper…
lol i didn’t get hit once? i melted through them as a chronomancer

thanks for your input, I don’t know how it benefits anyone..but thanks?
Welp, no, please don’t nerf them!
They are great! While I died a few times myself, I actually enjoyed the challenge. You really have to look what they’re doing, when they’re doing it and how you can counter it.
This is what the combat about Guild Wars 2 always should have been! No longer standing around and using only auto attack. So: It’s fine!

Oh really. And just what do you think, “Living story mobs are waaaay too strong”, sounds like, other than asking for a nerf ?
What class are you playing? Where all the mobs hitting this hard? Saying they are too strong with out giving any detail is no help.

I say make ‘em even harder, one wrong dodge and you’re down in one hit. That way the casuals will leave even faster and the game will follow the path of wildstar. That ’ll be “hardcore” ammirite?

i was using a revenant, and was fighting 4 snipers at once.

And… assuming Anet takes into account your “assessment” and their Developers agree and take action based on your statement… what kind of action would you expect from them in response to, “Living story mobs are waaaay too strong” ?
Face it dude, you were implicitly asking for a nerf to the mobs… your very words betray you.
I loved the challenge. I couldn’t go in mindlessly but still felt powerful.

if you died in WS from every single hit, it really illuminates just how bad a player you are. But I guess you just picked that up to sound informed.

sooo
- you used a class where you dont even know 100% yet what trait combinations are optimal for fighting
- you cant have a lot of experience playing it either…
- your gear was not optimal (celestial and dolyak runes again i guess?)
- you fought 4 enemies at once with those preconditions
and then complain?
try playing the class you play best with an optimal build for open world PvE
with appropriate stats, runes & sigils and then see how the fight goes
i really hope anet doesnt nerf anything before release
… especially if someone who played revenant complains .. ofc it is harder on revenant when people barely have a clue of how to play it the best way for PvE and dont have access to optimal gear, runes & sigils

I played it during last beta, and picked it up quite well, But, i never played on this map. and from how the story missions go, never have i encountered Mobs to continually wipe me out. sure you guys can diss, call me names, and a bad player, WHO CARES. i’m giving my part of the feedback, for anet to look over.

And we’re giving Anet our feedback on what we think of your feedback too. Hopefully this should prevent the Devs from rushing to judgement based on one player’s experience on a map he is playing for the very first time.

actually, ive seen more people say about how OP the mobs are, you just assume its just 1 player..typical :P, and won’t post, knowing how rude, condescending, and brutal the forum knights are, just because they don’t specifically agree with 1 thing.

these kind of posts is why we cant have actual hard content. because players complain about it being ‘too hard’. seriously ):
I say make ‘em even harder, one wrong dodge and you’re down in one hit. That way the casuals will leave even faster and the game will follow the path of wildstar. That ’ll be “hardcore” ammirite?

there was a point to be made there friend, but i’m afraid you missed it.
however if it makes you feel better, i’m a bad player. lots of people are. i dare say most of us are.
now, imagine us gone.
see the point yet?
mmos are businesses, not charities. hardcore apparently isn’t a sustainable model for mmos the size of guild wars 2. or maybe they are. keep asking for that hardcore content and we’ll find out, i guess.
let’s see how many of us, and for how many hours can play an mmo were mobs require your full focus. i bet that’s a nice unwinding experience to have after a day at work.
bleh, what do i know anyways, i am after all, as you said, a very bad player
It may be better to be more detailed into your issue rather than use a blanket “livibg story mobs are too strong”.
What class/build were you using?
What mobs were you specifically fighting?
Which attacks were you having issues with?
How many were you trying to fight at once?
Average damage taken/dealt?
And so on. The more detailed and specific that you are, the better.
At the beginning i found myself dying pretty fast against the mordrem, getting hit for 2k+ per hit, and when i have to survive till dawn, more then 1 can really ruin the experience.
Oh no, the mobs on lvl 80 content hurt. Why not play something other than glass cannon?
Steve,
Firstly, I apologize if I seemed to just make a comment bashing your post.
MMO’s have historically catered to the lowest common denominator. This is a problem for every serious gamer who is interested in a mass multiplayer online experience with progression into a single character for years to come, over a single player difficult experience.
The point of a video game at least to me, is to stimulate my mind and force me to quick reactions and puzzle solving that always keeps me excited and on my toes through the gameplay. Without this, the game is nothing more than a chore simulator. A simulator where I go through with no risk, just rolling through the motions enjoying a story, that due to typical genre restrictions (this is getting better), that is delivered no where near as effectively as games in other genres could.
MMO developers are constantly struggling to find this balance between casual content that everyone can enjoy and things that challenge players who are looking for it. It is a trend for MMO’s lately to always go back on their promises of difficulty because when things first come out it seems difficult. After two months it’s farm status, easy-mode and it crushes me. (See Tequatl)
That is why when I see your post that living story mobs that I happened to solo, no problem with no real failure state at all (Fail on a boss and spawn right back in when he’s at the same health…) it makes me kittening sick. Invest in researching how to play your class better, gear better, perfect your play before asking for nerfs (whether you meant it or not, it’s what your title suggests) on content that other people have absolutely 0 problems with.
So my suggestion would be to enjoy the casual end of things, like dynamic events, casual farming and crafting, or find some friends and a guild to help you go through the living story.
Hope this helps.

depends on your build. also depends on those around you and their builds. this is a group oriented game afterall, MMORPG and 1 of its huge problems is the stale zerker meta that needs to be changed. become a positive part of that change, simple as that.
It was a challenge on a rev, which is a new class for me but i made it. This expac is supposed to bring better encounters, or should we go back to the mindless zerker mentality. Please no. The only one that was a pain in the kitten for me was the champ at the end, regret not bringing other people with me, but hey i hold out to the end. It will get better when getting acustomed to the new profession and the content.

Fights were awesome, mobs weren’t strong enough.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
After not having played for awhile, these mobs certainly showed how i’m not that used to the combat anymore ^^ died several times, but kitten that was awesome. Loving how these mobs are actually strong (or i jsut suck rly much :p), i did do a lot better with chrono then with rev, but then i’m more used to mesmer so makes sense.
Keep em how they are, they should be more challenging.

since you’re in the betah and i’m not, a more pertinent question is this.. can you imagine yourself playing against such mobs for a 2 or 3 hour session? that’s the important bit (for me), that’s the gauge. that’s what’s been on my mind.
Looks like we get another Southsun Cove ..
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I find those Mordrem archers took down my beta Revenant in 4 hits!
In saying so however I did equip her with my spare acended chest armor so her stats were not coherent (2 beserker, 1 magi and 1 something else) so her toughness and vitality were abit lower than expected (it would had been fixed if I had access to the guild tag for the dolyak runes cos I end up forging the starter armours that had it).
Still I suppose I would had been able to survive the hits if I had timely used her skill better like using the dwarf elite and etc.

I wanna say yes, but i haven’t really played enough yet to really know Will play for a longer time tommorrow so i’ll find out.

I vaulted all my ascended armor on my current guardian, created a beta sylvari guard to go DH with. Specced him out and went to facetank all the weenies that came after me. . . . 3 seconds into the fight I was bleeding out and going “WHA?!!!” I respawned and took a more delicate approach, never had an issue since. No more mindless 133314233214142132141232147483948172849912, you have to actually try! It’s great! PvE content that actually makes you better at your class is a VERY welcome change. Smashing your face into your number keys is pretty bland, but when you get spanked for doing it, you learn pretty quickly!
Great Job! Loving the changes!
Ashen Mistwalker: WvW Tank/Crit Revenant
Oaken Earthlore: WvW Medi/Bunker Guardian
It’s not challenging content. It’s mobs that will do insane damage with just autoattacks, but will also die way too easily. If people want some challenge, this is definitely not the way to go.
Did you mean “Mobs ARENT strong enough?”
No they aren’t too strong, it’s the snipers that getting you, learn to recognize them and dodge/projectile block

I overheard some…“things” about sylvari in the beta map. you noticed anything different ?
I want to say the same thing as Topic Poster.
Then I remembered that people wanted harder difficulty.
Well, wish granted. I personally can’t say I’m the biggest fan of this, but people have wanted more of a challenge.
But now we find out just how many will. Is it the Vocal Minority who wants tougher enemies or is it the actual majority? We will find out soon enough. I have no problem being called a dirty casual as it took me at least 30 min to get into Verdant Brink. But at least I was able to do it. It’s not impossible.
Oh and for more details since this is a Beta and Feedback was needed:
- Was using a Ranger (my main class and then again using a Revenant. Both classes had a hard time.)
- I lol’d because at least it wasn’t just me getting bopped. Rox and every other NPC got busted up too.
- [SPOILER] took a while to show up and make things manageable but once they did, the fight went easily.
- Assuming that everyone knows to stay out of red circles, there were sure a lot of them and mobs spawned alot.
Now I am not saying it needs to be easier, but if difficulty was the desired outcome, congrats. It was reached. Now let’s see if people are really happy about it and if it sticks.
The snipers right at the start of the instance are the only ones that gave me any trouble but that’s only because I falsely assumed they’d be weaker then they were. They definitely require you to pay a bit more attention, but otherwise they’re not a terribly difficult mob.
Also the NPC allies seem to be dishing out more damage than they have in the past (or at least one of them was).

At the start I noticed a lot of players following old zerg strategy of just swarm in a mass and hope it goes ok, but because of the narrower areas and mobs being better it isnlt working.
I’ve also noticed a lot of Revenants seem to think sticking to Shiro and sword/sword will allow them to get past everything (there were a couple of people complaining in chat about how Shiro hasn’t “saved the Revenant” when really they just don’t get the Revenant).
Using all the new traits and skills even the default gear seemed fine to clear various areas. Definitely requires a lot more dodging and using your skills strategically, but that makes it even more fun for me.
Saw People trying to facetank 3 Overhead Smashes at the same Time. With expected Results xD
The ones who get me down are usually the Snipers. kitten they are powerful and they are trying to keep a good distance between you and himself through dodging and kicking.
Also there were these Stonehead Dinos, Pretty fun these guys because Positioning is important otherwise you are doing 0 Damage.
So far the Mobs I’ve seen are an improvement to the Dry Top and SW Mobs ( who were already an improvement to the rest of the Mobs )
