On Reddit: Monthly rewards would be a good way to bring traffic to older HoT maps

I think a monthly objective requiring participation in each HoT map meta event (and reaching 100% participation) or LS3 maps (and activating all of the hearts in a day or killing map bosses) would be a good way to attract traffic to the ‘older’ maps. Perhaps 1 trip to each or some tally and a mixture of visits like Dungeon Frequenter. It should be a lengthy process that can’t be done in 24 hours of straight play.

I can’t think of what rewards would be good. Maybe a mixture of map currencies. Perhaps AP (that’s getting old though) or clovers. Add your ideas . . .

I hate to see HoT/LS3 nice maps grow desolate just because they aren’t ‘fresh’.

Daily rewards aren’t enough motivation. I typically do the 3 easiest ones and then do something more profitable.

I’m thinking of being able to earn something (??) that is hard to get otherwise and account bound.

My first thought was clovers because coins are hard to get. A map currency bonus like the dungeon frequenter chest would be attractive to me.

Daily rewards aren’t enough motivation. I typically do the 3 easiest ones and then do something more profitable.

You’re basically doing what the rewards are intended for already. You turned the game on, then you got yourself actively playing a small portion of the game which led you to playing a different portion. Monthly rewards cannot give that quick reinforcement which gets people signing in and playing.

The more maps we get, the less populated they will be. What the game needs is not stuff to draw us to a map, but stuff to draw NEW players to the maps.

There will always be players in every map, but often not enough for a successful one unless its was an organized group.

Why simplify things when its so easy to complicate them ?

HoT maps are always going to have metas because they have tons of rewards needed for high end stuff. All you need is ONE meta map to keep everything running smoothly, and there are often multiple meta maps at the moment.

They do have one inducement to play HoT maps y’all haven’t mentioned. For those that have the various home instance chests that need keys to open, they’ll need to go back and play those maps to get more keys or leave those chests sitting in the home instance unopenable. (They do have a device that gives one key a day but if you have multiple chests then it isn’t enough for all of them).

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

(They do have a device that gives one key a day but if you have multiple chests then it isn’t enough for all of them).

You know, I just hit that point again where only one character is holding a full set of keys, yet I’m too lazy to port him all the way back to a home instance. Of course, being the irrational gamer that I am, I bemoan the unopened chest in my home instance, and that is motivation to head to HoT this weekend.

One of the reasons I left WoW was instead of making use of current maps so many more were introduced. Good news in GW2 is I don’t waste time flying point to point so traveling is made easier. New areas are great but once objectives are made why go back? I use only one toon to cover map progression and then just do my thing whatever that may be for the day.

ANET obviously intends to keep new maps rolling which is fine but we need some gear progression and for the record I HOPE they never increase level cap.

Back to maps… mega server has been huge for ANET in that every map has someone in it and must max out before another map is created. A great system especially for events unless you login 5 minutes before the event and get locked out

Gear progression is only a means to an end and once that end is reached, people will simply stop playing. This is precisely what you said “once objectives are made why go back?”

Let me rephrase because I agree with you. As for gear progression I meant new looks for those who like to make ascended gear or the RNGesus for us that WvW. Not to the point where higher stats are needed. When I left WoW at level 90 and gear / wep progression you could crit for high 100’s of thousands and I hear 5 years later it’s over a million. I have no interest in “re-gearing” or leveling my toons any further and with the history of GW1 not increasing level caps and such I do not think we will see that here at GW2.

The focus on the game should always be end game content and I think ANET has done a fair job at it though they need to clean up and focus a little effort towards the PvP and WVW groups.

Maybe not monthly, but weekly rewards? Say 1 week each month would be dedicated to a certain HoT map? Each day of the week could be a different bonus for that map. Definitley would like to see this happen

Growing desolate? No matter what time I log in, every meta gets 1-2 full maps, and every LW3 zone has map chat and heaps of people farming currency. I am not sure when you play, but HOT+LW3 maps are bustling 24/7 for me. Then when I take a break to check tp etc, LA and mists always have people. I am pretty impressed with the population TBH.

They will be just like the dead core maps. I mean, visit the SilverWastes, nothing, Dry Top never gets past T1 now, you can’t find a group to do Teq with you, nobody ever visits SouthSun…
