Mordremoth GROWS commanders?
Biologically speaking he probably can’t produce them from thin air. He needs mass and energy for the process, which means while his army is potentially limitless he can’t just keep churning them out forever unless he has enough raw materials to do so. Given they are plants that means minerals, sunlight, and water. Probably magical energy as well, and he may replace the need for minerals and sunlight with flesh and blood.
But ultimately there is a finite amount of these resources, which means there is a finite number of Modrem he can produce at a time. Similar to most RTS games. Yes, you CAN keep mass producing troops, but you don’t have the resources to keep that up forever.

People say this game is pay to win. ANet should make him pay with gems. There can be Mordrem Commanders in the gem store and if he needs a new one, he has to pull out his wallet and buy them.
ANet may give it to you.
Infinite soldiers… aren’t as infinite as you might think; the respawn rate matters, too.
His resources are limited. Although, that does make me wonder why he doesn’t just create an army of these commanders in place of the Mordrem beasts (any minions besides the Guard) and use them to wreak havoc. Again, maybe these take more resources/time to create than all of the other minions that having an army of them isn’t feasible, but it seems like a valid question.

Stop it! You guys are going to kill me with laughter before Mordremoth gets a chance! Not cool!

More than likely he can’t recreate the soul of the original, just the body. A big reason these commanders are so effective is because of who they are and what they know about the PACT. So when a commander dies he recycles the mind/soul of the original and puts it in a new body. Similar to a Tyranid Hive Tyrant in the Warhammer 40K setting.
So, basically we need that creepy Asura genius no one likes to talk to and his krew of eager neo-goths to whip up a man/charr/norn-portable Souleater Cannon. Basically something that kills you so bad you don’t get an afterlife. Which, if you think about it, is really horrible.
And something Asura would totally do when they feel threatened.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

You won this thread.
Well Zhaitan could raise an almost infinite amount of undead to fight for him, but the battle wasn’t won by fighting the risen, it was won by taking him down. So I guess the same is true of Mordremoth. He is a dragon and has a body. Fighting him will probably take us to all 3 biomes. His head will probably be in the canopy, body attached to the ground, and the equivalent of roots will be underground. Underground will probably be the final battle.
I think the idea is that there are 3 commander’s minds he corrupted, and he grows lesser slyvari to replace them if they die. I think he needs the base slyvari first, which he enhances into a commander when needed. He is limited to the number of slyvari he controls.
Granted he grows slyvari, but they are slow growing, it’s not like he can grow one in an hour.
I don’t think anybody in this thread has yet considered the most disturbing possible implication of Mordremoth being able to resurrect his minions.
Scarlet could return.

Technically your character can keep respawning infinitely, I think infinite enemy bosses is only fair

So that’s where all those TP fees are going then! Gnashblade’s been a Mordie agent all this time! No wonder the Warband threw him out.

Actually I had this same thought. Think of the cut scene at the end of that episode. The big grin on her face like she knew she would return and then the drill penetrated and released the energy. Wouldn’t be a big surprise if she was brought back somehow, just look at all the old dead minions in Orr there are to fight who lived previously.
I like warriors, so sue me.

It’s an account purchase so he only had to buy it once.
Imagine if two of these three commanders were resurrected Scarlet and converted Trahearne. Now that’s going to motivate us to end Mordremoth once and for all.

Well, he still needs to gear em out and level them to be an actual threat.
Also he needs to pack their lootboxes before he sends em off so it sums up.
Technically, every race grows replacement commanders. It just takes them a couple decades.
Well, this explains the change to key farming. Mordremoth was using disposable commanders to do key runs then selling the skins on the BLTP to make gold.
He is the cause of the key run nerf. This proves he is more evil than anyone ever imagined.

in order:
Malyk, to close his story.
Scarlet, his most successful minion.
Trahearne, as a player punch and to make it personal (also because the pact leader would be a strategic prize like no other)
other contenders: Caithe (unlikely), Faolain (unlikely, serving ANYONE goes completely against what she stands for), Carys (possible, but could lack the punch for players who picked certain paths), Aerin (we know he was already corrupted), that annoying guy who CONSTANTLY says “if mordremoth can attack the mother tree in the grove, he can attack anywhere” (he knows. that isn’t shock, it’s a threat.)
I would be VERY disappointed if it turned out the commanders are sylvari we don’t know. especially considering we used Omadd’s machine, opening our mind and possibly letting mordremoth get a good look at who we wouldn’t want corrupted
as for why he can’t make troops faster: sylvari grow at lv2, and he only has so many scrolls of XP, it takes time to get them to 80 and he needs to save all the knowledge tomes for the commanders.
plus, getting gold for gearing them up takes ages, and he never does well farming in the silverwastes.

Did anyone mention cloning (I must watch the PoI video but I recall that word in the synopsis)? It seems more likely that old Moldy can take a Sylvari and make lots of little grafts on a compatible plant and grow lots of replacements. Plants tend to grow a bit faster than us fleshy types so we will have lots of targets to flame.
This might explain where all the seedless Sylvari bad guys will come from. Have no pity for them as they have no pits.
It will be a speed burn then. The slower we are the more commanders we face.

yeah, we have to kill them as fast as possible with little regard for anything else, we don’t want to be fighting things that aren’t our goal.

We don’t actually have to defeat the third one, Mordy does it for us.
The thing is, Mordy can’t make infinite Commanders, because they have only one “soul.” He can keep respawning the same one indefinitely, taking at least a few minutes each time, but he can’t have two copies active at once.
As for Scarlet, it’d be interesting if she did come back, as a good guy. Remember, she was not a “bad” person. She was literally crazy. She was a reasonably good, or at least neutral person who got too close to divinity, and it broke her noggin. The actions she then took were invariably wrong, too many lives were lost, but it wasn’t necessarily for a bad reason. One theory is that by waking Mordy deliberately, she did so early, causing him to waken weaker than he should have been, and thus easier to take down.
At the very least, her methods gave us plenty of tips for fighting him that we wouldn’t otherwise have had. I mean, what would season two have been like if not for following Scarlet’s clues? Mordy likely would have had vines all over Tyria, destroying every Waypoint and setting the pact way back. She was influenced by Mordy, he was pressuring her mind, but I don’t believe she was ever doing his bidding.
So what if Scarlet does get resurrected by Mordy to be one of his soldiers, but she fights that programming and finally breaks free, clear of his influence and in her original, rational mindset? She then joins up with our characters to fight against his corruption, perhaps sacrificing herself again in the final battle.
Oh, and at the very least I expect that Faolain and her Nightmare Court to be a third faction in all of this, fighting against Mordremoth guerrilla style, like the French Resistance during WWII.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
Actually the more I thought about this, it would be kinda awesome for Scarlet to return as one of these Commanders. It would also allow nice tie-ins back to the Aetherblades.

This too would be rather fun, but please leave a little of crazy there. That was her charm.

OK, so in the latest article on HoT Anet announced that yes, the sylvari were destined to become draconic minions. BUT, it also says that Mordremoth can grow back his 3 most powerful commanders. Yes, this is a clever way of explaining why they respawn, but if Mordremoth can literally just grow soldiers, how does he even lose fights?! EVER?! Theoretically he has INFINITE SOLDIERS!!!! I mean… what?!?! Can anyone explain this…
It is not different than Jormag creating new Claws once one is defeated or Kralkatorik spawning new Shatterer to patrol on the brand when one got… well shattered.
Even though the Moth can spawn Commanders and destroyed the Pact Fleet, Trahearne still has Millions of Commanders running around all of Tyria, so we should be fine.

I can see us having to kill a cloned Trahearne while rescuing Trahearne proper from a cloning pod.

Maybe not a commander, but at least as a boss in a Raid or in the personal story.
This could be a very interesting plot line, this idea that Sylvari are practically immortal as long as Mordy lives.
Similar to most RTS games. Yes, you CAN keep mass producing troops, but you don’t have the resources to keep that up forever.

All of you guys are forgetting some important hints:
(1) Mordrem Guard look super-masculine and uber-buffed like the average WoW character.
(2) LS 2 has shown that he has intentions of destroying Tyria and its inhabitants. Remember that his vines killed Tyrians (like Belinda) without being provoked.
This can only mean one thing: Mordremoth is buying and using Blizzard’s Boost-To-Level-90 on his commanders for $60 a pop.
