Mordremoth better be like TEQ
Teq is also quite outdated. It doesn’t need any organization nowdays. But I agree Zhaitan fight was completly dissappointing. We don’t know if Modremoth will be in expac we will see after release
I’d prefer if Mordy were like THQ. Dead! Mwahaha.
But yes, I do hope that, even if it’s a Living Story instance, the Mordemoth fight is more complex. I’d love to drag a 5-man guild team to stomp him.
I feel going for a world zerg like Teq is actually counter to being epic, since complication with lack of communication takes away from success and leads to a lot of flailing around by those who haven’t farmed it.

If the LS2 boss fights were any indication, they seem to hagve made lots of strides in giving players fun ways to fight bosses that massive scale. The pale tree fight and finale fight are both great examples of a boss encounter with a massive foe where that foe doesn’t just stand in one place like all of the super boring world bosses, of sit in one place while you pelt it with cannons.

Despite also being easy and soloable, Shadow Of The Dragon was a way better fight than Zaithan. Personally I’d prefer if Mordremoth was an Open World event like Vinewrath or the Marionette.
Maybe Mordremoth will be the first instanced raid?

Honestly I doubt it.
The reason they didn’t make zhaitan a world event is so that they could have a custscene heavy and story focused final fight that they can direct you to as a final story step so you don’t just stumble across it on accident, and that he doesn’t miraculously respawn so the game world can treat him as “dead”
This is also why the official stance on world bosses is that they are all actually different creatures, or that they retreat rather than die when defeated, and that they allow the dragon’s minions to persist after it dies. This lets them have a dead Zhaitan while still treating his zones like a constant battle against the risen, as it makes chronoligcal sense no matter where you are in the personal story, or what content you have done.
Ditto with silverwastes, or any other enemy faction stronghold.
I would assume that the final mordy fight will take place in an instance, either group or solo with massive NPC reinforcements for this reason.

I’d prefer it be more like vinewrath or at least Teq. Vinewrath itself was fun and easy and if the content is fun the difficulty doesn’t matter because you are having fun.
Certain mechanics need to be in place to where if you don’t adapt to them you will have a very hard time killing the boss, but the boss should still be killable. This is not true with Tequatl or Evolved Wurm. You have to do certain things or its a wipe early.
Keep it fun, give it various objectives that make the fight easier if used and you have a good boss.
i want it to be similar to how you fight elder dragons in monster hunter. if any of you guys picked monster hunter 4 ultimate last week (of if any of you fought jhen mohran in 3), the game has already given you a taste of what it’s like on the very first moments after character creation: it’s still a fight on top of a boat, but there’s a lot more to manage in there, and a lot more play involved. plus, there are moments when you actually climb the dragon and slash its weak points to bits.
I just dont want to press 1 and watch it die, Id like to fight it personally with an organized map people say world boss’s are not fun but I like doing Teq and they can make it harder like the knights fight in battle of LA or more like Ancient Karka. I want to feel like im actually fighting something and not just kill random minions while cannons are being spammed.
As for the story they need to do what they did with scarlet then and allow us to all fight it together then finish it off in a small story scene problem solved.
Then again this is arena net, They can’t even put a karma vendor in the game somewhere and let us have a certain armor skin thats been MIA since last year.

Maybe Mordremoth will be the first instanced raid?
And that would be awesome.
to be honest, i would find it really laughable when an elder dragon could be killed by just a group of players. problem is we are talking here about a living mountain as a boss encounter, maybe zaithan was a disappointment game mechanic wise, but i cant imagine a solution to defeat an elder dragon without a massive army and war machines
i mean a raid, really? did you see jormags teeth in holbreak?
Maybe Mordremoth will be the first instanced raid?
Yeah. Horrible idea.
One of the (many) flaws of the personal story was how it was made to be entirely soloed, but then the last mission required a group. The same kind of content should either be entirely solo, or entirely with a group, so you know how you will experience it.
If the HoT personal story will be told through soloable instances, then the ending of that storyline should also be told through a soloable instance.
And, for the records, making Mordremoth into a dynamic event is also a horrible idea. It would stuck the endgame boss in an never ending cycle, so it would never be truly defeated, and the story would be stuck there.
Mordremoth will either be a story dungeon (5 man) or a story instance (1-5 man). I doubt it’d be an open world boss, simply because world bosses don’t die – or if they do, they get replaced by a different generic boss. Unique NPCs like Zhaitan and Mordremoth need to be an instance, because they die once and only once – they don’t retreat, they don’t get replaced by another of the same generic name.
But I expect the fight will be far closer to the Shadow of the Dragon fights than to Blightghast or Zhaitan.
And if we’re lucky, the “minor improvements” for the Personal Story after A Light in the Darkness will be improving Blightghast and Zhaitan fights.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
^ Like I said Earlier the FIGHT can be like scarlet’s was in Battle of LA where everyone fights her then you go in an instance after you win and finish it off.
Depends on how literal they want to make the progression of zones and the overall storyline with the notion of the Living World.
Mordremoth would be alive in that zone, but dead in your personal story.
Scarlet is dead in both the open world – after those two weeks – and in your story.

I love raid content, and yet I still wholeheartedly agree. I think the sudden introduction of required group content into the personal story was the only time in GW2 I’ve ever felt really angry and disappointed in the developers.
It’s not about whether or not that content is a good idea in general, it’s just that it shouldn’t be forced into something that is otherwise personal to your character. There’s plenty of room for great group content without doing that.
That having been said, if I had to actually guess I’d bet it will be handled a little bit like Scarlet’s End. Whether raid or open world I bet the fight will happen, and then you’ll be taken into your own personal instance briefly for the personal portion of the story.
I just hope it’s not done as a 5-man. I am so incredibly tired of small group dungeons in MMO’s you have no freaking idea. And in GW2 they’re actually even more pointless and boring tactically than in other MMO’s due to the lack of well defined party roles. That design philosophy works great in other content, but for 5-man dungeons it’s just… Ugh. Anyone who enjoys them I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but I just can’t tolerate them at all. I may not even bother fighting the final battle if it’s a 5-man.
I envision it probably being a combination of 5-man group content, NPC armies keeping it occupied and when its weakened enough some sort of large weapon to finish it off. It will probably require some sort of organisation like Vinewrath / Marionette.
I’m happy with this as long as there is allot more HANDS ON ACTION from us the players not just stuck on some airship pressing 1. I personally don’t want it to be some open world Zerg fest that will take away from the epic feeling killing it.
I love this game so I really hope they can deliver on this fight as I have seen it becoming progressively better over the last year mainly hope the hype has a pay-off.
I can’t wait to stomp it right in its heart.
while Zhaitan was not very fun, it sure beat the traditional “hit big boss on toes”. Seems fitting an enemy of that magnitude should not just be beat to death by some tiny adventurers stabbing at his toenails.
I thought 1 and 3 were for aiming and 2 was to shoot. It’s still not more enjoyable to press one button over and over until it dies, but at least get the button you press right.
Personally I’m hoping the memo they sent out some months back looking to hire a design team with experience designing raids was a good indication of them eventually putting instanced 10+ man content in the game.
As for Mord, I would hope he/she/it would be one of the bosses that would require an organized raid to kill. I mean if it don’t what possibly could.

I agree it would make sense to have to use some big cannons & pact super weapons to kill him.
The down side came from the fact he just stays there and takes the beating with no real retaliation.
If they made Mord a 10+ man instanced fight however it could have some people on cannons/super weapons while other people were charged with guarding them.
They could totally make mordremoth an open world boss. They could have a special sealed off area where mordremoth spawns. This area can only be accessed by finishing the story line on your character, after the last instanced story you move towards this place and unlock the waypoint there. If you haven’t done the story you can’t access the waypoint. That way it makes so much more sense that your char can fight mordremoth, ontop of that you can’t just stumble upon the dragon.
Hopefully, he’ll be an instanced boss. There’s already too much open world content which is a borefest.
