Q:
While having a lot of experience in several guilds I have few ideas about renovating the in game guild window to help create a better community, please tell me if these ideas are good, bad or not necessary.
1. Many times when joining a guild they would ask to sign up to a website or join their Facebook group page, though this is fine but in most cases no one really visits this page often and update it regularly and finds it comfortable. So why not create an improved message board where everyone can post information, questions, guild updates, etc. I think this will be very helpful especially if you need help and you are in a different time zone, you can just post “Hey need help with Dry Top at 10pst” then someone will sign up to help.
2. Having the option to join 5 guilds seems to be too much and it doesn’t create any loyalty. Even if guilds say 50% rep most guild members would either rep full time or less than 10% (rep only for guild missions). And Yes I know people create a personal guild to access the bank. So why not have a One Guild Man, this will create more demand for good guilds and smaller guilds would have a higher chance to be successful. And replace the personal guild banks with more banks slots (5 more). Also allow personal influence to buy banners or give out more guild commendations.
3. I like how TeamSpeak gives the option to create nicknames. So why not have an option to create a “one time guild name”, players usually have more than one character and their account names isn’t being displayed fully. I believe this help guilds win over new guild members by making them apart of the community when they are called on a first name basis. Plus it’s much easy to remember.
4. Maybe this one is too far fetch, but I think rewards and incentive is good to have. Having a tab where leaders can create guild achievements like “The most influence donated” or “The most helpful guildie” or “Member of the Month”. It’s good to create competition within a guild and it lets you strive to make a name for yourself
5. Lastly. Create a database of all guilds in tyria, so people can search to join guilds. And have an option for a guild score like “A means this guild has all things unlocked” or “A means member leaving rate is high”. I think thats helpful and it clears map chat.
So what do you think?

I think a lot of this could help guilds but at this point we’re not set to go to one guild at a time for the account. A lot of game culture has evolved around being able to have a set of guilds, including stuff like TTS.
I have people in my guild that are also in other RP guilds that have different themes from ours. How do you propose they pick which ongoing storylines and circles of friends to abandon in favor of just one of their groups?

1. improved message board [inside the game]
I don’t really want ANet spending time on web-plugins inside the game. They are bad at it (look how long it’s taken them to get the TP to work as well as it does today) and it’s a distraction from the core game. What they could do is make it easier to include the guild website as a link within a sub tab for “guild details” (the same tab could include subtabs with information about VoIP, message of the day, etc).
2. “One man guilds”
What? why? I don’t think 5 guilds is enough. I am in a WvW guild, a friend’s guild, and if I had a chance, I’d be in a dungeon/fractal guild, an open world guild, and probably a raid guild. Friends would be in RP guilds as well.
Plus, the issue with storage banks is that we all want more storage, so instead of single-person guilds, ANet could find a way to offer more room to hoard.
3. “guild nickname”
This seems very useful and (hopefully) easy to implement, since the friends list already has similar functionality.
4. “member of the month tab”
Sure, why not include a custom tab (in addition to those I’ve mentioned for VoiP, the website, MotD, …)
5. database of guilds in tyria
I think a database could be very useful, but it’s a big project to make it happen. There are a lot more guilds than you think. This would only work if guild could also include information/data useful for filtering guilds — that is going to turn out to be a lot of work. Are they recruiting? Are there age or behavior requirements? RP? (and if so, what kind?) What hours are people usually online? etc etc
Thank you guys for the input. I realize I’m a different type of a player among others and what is not what everyone wants. The one man guild is over shooting, but having that database can balance it somehow. I want small guilds to have a shot; sometimes just advertising in map chat and online isn’t enough. Creating an official database online seems to be an easier option and of course there would be an added guild description to go with it.
And what I meant for the message board is to look a the message of the day now in the guild windows, only a specific person can post something. Now imagine it transformed to a now elaborate message broad where members post things (but this would be in the same guild window, probably under guild missions tab).
But again thanks for your ideas as well.
