I noticed that ArenaNet hasn’t stated that its only going to be one Elite Specialization per Profession. I mean they are announcing new ES’s that give access to weapons not previously available but they have said that there will be ES’s that could change existing weapons. Plus it seems kinda limiting to have one ES per Profession due to the fact that it would more of a natural progression then a actual specialization so the terminology wouldn’t make as much sense. I mean wouldn’t it be kind of interesting to have a Guardian that’s a true Paladin, or an Elementalist (as an Arcanist) whose fighting skills are pure arcane? These are a couple of examples of potential ES’s that might be tossed in. Understand that these are musings of a fellow gamer and not hints from an ArenaNet GM. So please do not harass the company over anything posted here.

My guess: we’ll see one per profession/per expansion.

1. Anet has stated that there will only be one elite specialization per profession.

2. There will be more elite specializations added sometime after HoT (whether that is with live updates or future expansions hasn’t been decided).

3. The terminology makes sense because you have to choose between one of the core specializations and the elite specializations (i.e. either you choose 3 core specializations or you choose 2 core specializations and 1 elite specialization).

Have they? I can’t say I remember them saying anything like that. Can you give a source?

Apparently you didn’t read the final line of my comment. I stated it was musings of mine. Not a serious review on the system. Please try to understand the context and this was not a thread for a review on what we know but what the changes to the specialization system could be.

Then don’t tell us that “they” said that ES’s could change existing weapon-sets.
Also still awaiting for a source on that one.

I thought they should change a single weapon for elites that only get an off hand or main hand weapon.it would be nice to get 5 weapon skills each and really get some build diversity and maybe some synergy with under utilized weapons. That was before they announced the Chronomancer. Oh well,maybe next time.

Arantheal, you might have not paid attention to my second comment? When are you required to have a source to musings. I did find one but I’m not going to post it because you apparently are missing the point of this thread. This is not a review of known information but to look at what could be. Source is useless.

Just like Elite Skills, you can only have one elite spec equipped at a time.

The third spec slot is the only one that can have elite specs equipped in it.

After the last three years, I’m cautious about this one.

GW2 is full of things that were going to be a new direction for the game, a new foundation on which to build, just the beginning of more to come, only to be abandoned later for a new new direction for the game.

GW2 is full of things that were going to be a new direction for the game, a new foundation on which to build, just the beginning of more to come, only to be abandoned later for a new new direction for the game.

ANet has repeatedly stated that Elite Specializations will be their method of expanding professions from here on out. We even know a bit of their thought process behind the next Guardian elite after Dragonhunter (they’ve been musing about bringing Tomes back in an elite spec).
