I find Rangers boring but LOL… I’m going to roll one for that flying flame breathing fire dragon pet alone…

Can we ride them? Rangers need wyvern mounts.

Yeah, I’m super excited about the fire wyvern. I can’t wait to play with it! Something I noticed in the video, though… it looks like the fire field starts in one location, and slowly expands as the wyvern circles, dealing damage starting in the center and eventually expanding outward. It looked like the start point of the field was from where the wyvern took off. I’m hoping that gets tweaked a bit… It would be way more awesome if the field started at the targeted enemy’s location, and expand outward from the enemy.

Just start the fire field, then suck them into it, then lock them down and commence the beatdown.

What other new pets did they announce?

The new pets make me so happy.
The Druid playstyle also makes me happy. This works for me in situations that aren’t even HoT related!

Its a toss up whether I’m going after the wyverns or the smokescale first.

Yay… At best this new pets will replace pets that were previously good, so that those will now not be used again. And at worst, those new pets will not be worth it and wont be used. So either way, pets are still underwhelming…
But atleast now they look cool.

This is confusing to me. How can it be “all rangers” if the new pets are only available in HoT areas for those that own HoT? It would not be for all rangers, it would be only for rangers that own HoT.

As the juvenile form of the pet needs to be charmed, a regular ranger would not be able to get them as the juvenile form would only be available in HoT-only areas.

• Do the new pets actually require HoT and the Druid elite specialization unlocked to get them, but once gotten they can be used by non-druid rangers?
• Or is it as it came off as being – that HoT is not required to get the new pets as it was said that all rangers will have access to them?
• And if they are available to all rangers, does this possibly mean that pact Tyria will be seeing Mordrem and the juveniles of the new pets for base rangers to charm so base rangers can charm them outside of HoT-only content areas?

Yea, pretty sure the pets will have to be charmed in HoT content and the devs meant that you didn’t need the Elite Spec to do it or use them.

Oh, I completely agree. This is why I am confused on exactly how they would plan to add them to the base ranger pet selection if the base ranger cannot enter into HoT areas to charm them. Their stating that base rangers “get them” too is throwing all kinds of confusion at me. I’m hoping for some clarification on it.

Modified my post to remove the auto-unlocking portion as I missed the part where Irenio said “they can acquire these new pets”, which would mean they are acquired and not auto-unlocked.

On a related note, the stream never mentioned what the Tiger’s F2 skill was. Could we get that info, pretty please?

I interpreted it to mean you didn’t need to acquire the druid elite specialization to get the new pets… but that needing the expansion to get them was a given.

I… don’t know. I mean, the new pets are cool and all, but there is one question that jumps out at me immediately – what happened to raptors? Griffons? Skelk?

There were a lot of requests for those.

Seriously just let go of the pets, you have yet to make them function as intended after 3 years.

In the end the idea of Druid could be great (and it is in general) but once again it will be the lack luster class because you refuse to acknowledge that pets are more of a problem than a solution.

So the pet AI is getting fixed? If not, my Wyvern will die just as easily as any other pet in the Mai Trin Fractal when the whole floor is a death trap and the same will happen in other events that have similar mechanics. These pets look amazing. It all really amounts to nothing though if the AI that should have been addressed in 2012 isn’t ever improved upon.

Do we know if it’s only going to be the orange and black tiger or if we’re getting the Alpine Stalker as well?

Definitely using the Smokescale. Did you see how much damage it did in the livestream? 9.5k damage during it’s shadowstepping attack. Not to mention it can evade like hell. Just like the ones in Verdant Brink. Super potent.

Personally I would have liked a raptor instead of a reskinned panther.

Smokescale is a quadruped that looks like it uses the same rig and sound files as the rockhound.

Ruby said several times how rushed all the guild chats were because of being done at Twitchcon and having to meet some kind constraint, so they were really just skimming a lot of stuff.

Regarding Smokescale; those are so much worse to fight than almost any other mob in the HoT betas. I think they could be really great pets, not only because they are tanky, but because they’ll blind your enemies. (If they have all their normal skills).

Could have swore the tameable ones walked on their hind legs and had itty bitty arms. Seemed very raptorish. I could certainly be wrong.

It’s possible the new pets can be acquired on the new wvw borderland. Anyone with the base game will have access to those, and if I remember correctly, there was wyverns in there, as well as some other saurians, so it’s not strange they would be found there. Some pets can currently be found in the alpine borderlands.

I was hoping to be able to get a raptor or a T-rex !
