Some guys have posted about this… a year ago…This guy is right, I still dont know how Rytlock got all of his powers.. etc. Will we have a story in the next specialization?

That’s right,

I just finished the main story of HoT and I haven’t come across any lore regarding the elite specs. It’s like ANET slapped them into the game just because they needed to. Only hints “profession-wise” is when we see Rox questioning Rytlock about “His new magic, and where did he get it from.” However throughout the entire story, Rytlock continues to avoid talking about his Revenant magic.

That’s it, oh and the Dynamic event surrounding the Druids in Auric Basin. But that’s all we get… Oh and maybe you can count when Irenio gave us small lore on the Scrapper.

But as far as in game, how your Chr became their new elite, is non existent. This is highly upsetting because in MMOs like FINAL FANTASY 14: ARR, their classes have lore, even with the new ones that come out in that game. But in GW2, we get nothing. Arena Net, as a Role Player Iam forced to make my own stories about how my Sylvari became a druid… But tbh, I’d like more Indepth lore for every elite spec and hopefully the Revenant.

I have a feeling there will be more updates to HoT regarding story, and if so… I hope we get some more lore on the elite specs. Because they are poorly implemented lore wise into the game.

HOT fell pretty flat in most areas of the game.

For instance people who love raids and meta maps enjoy HOT.

WvW was partially ruined with HOT with the new map and new specs being way to OP.

PvP has been definitely destroyed by the new specs and only now is it playable in S5 but other things are breaking PvP down.

Lore wise the game is off. Even wooden potatoes comments that alot of the living story lines dont seem to follow along with how the culture of the races. Like Braham is from the wolf clan and they never forget. They even appreciate there elders more after death and braham is acting super odd. And Anet answer is that they knew people who acted weird in those situations.

The problem is they are people NOT LIVING IS THIS WORLD. Not to mention they are humans who are of a completely different culture.

If we are being 100% honest, most of the people who started GW2 story wise, lore wise, system wise is gone.

You can tell because the game play has sped up 10X, damage has gone threw the roof, and build diversity is insanely weak on top of the fact that story wise now it is breaking apart.

I was super intersted in learning more since GW2 has books out i personally love the Norns and Sylvari but Anet literally does everything possible to spit in the face of the characters and races identities so they can throw out living story content while the patch up together another uncompleted expansion they probably hope to sell to us for another $100.

Doubt they will give an explanation for it unless it is relevant to the story and even then it will be brief, they mostly seem to be turning the game into every other MMO.

Quite a few people who where intewrested in this kinda stuff left and HoT is really for people who just want to run raids and do meta stuff with meta builds, won’t be long before GW 2 introduces roles like tank and dps.

It was completely out of place. Especially since the revenant doesn’t have a different story and actually starts his/her journey right at the same timeline as every other profession/class. It doesn’t make any sense.

New revs starting in the same timeline as the other player characters was mechanically necessary.

If you’re looking for lore concerning using the power of the Mists instead of magic, you can read up on ritualists.

Yeah, I was hoping for and expecting there’d be some kind of little story line (just one or two steps, even) for each class to explain how they learn or unlock their elite specs that was a very, very naive expectation.

Hopefully the next expansion brings a lot more content. HoT is pretty light in terms of content added.

HoT needed a few more months before launching it.

So many incomplete things.

so you’d prefer all norms to be robots programmed to act accordingly in 1 situation? how does that make for interesting character if all norms had an x character all sylvari a y and all the asura a z

you can say that how braham is acting is childish sure i agre but i much more prefer it than the generic norm would would add in a specific way just because he was discrubed as such this gves depth to his character

if you would keep atching some of the next vids of wp you would find out that ppl came out and ssaid the same stuff as me now and wp acknowledged and agreed with this opinion

oh and btw the expac was solf for 40 euro or idk 50 $? the 100 you payd you got sme more stuff like 4k gems caracter slot and other stuff but thaat was your choice anet didnt force you to do that.

No you are right about them acting like robots but i would like them to act like the people/culture they come from.

He wasnt at the funeral, he didnt celebrate her life and his attitude towards his friends once again doesnt come from the people he came from.

Its like the Icelandic strongmen, a rich history of Magnús Ver Magnússon, Jón Páll Sigmarsson and people care about it more. Its why it means more to Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson.

Where as in the U.S you couldnt find very many people who know Brian Shaw. Jouhka Ahoula went on to have a acting career after he won 2 WSM competitions.

This is how Norns deal with death, its ok for him to act odd or different by he isnt even acting Norn like. At the funeral it even had a sad feeling about it, where was the drinking and the partying?

So its not just braham but Anet literally forgot what they had written in Books about the different cultures. For instance the Sylvari we know should be way different then the other Sylvari but HOT was so short we never even got to experience anything. Just meta maps for farming.

Some of us like the story line behind it and so it kind of needs to make sense.

Lastly i paid $100 for this EXP because Guild Wars 2 the core game is a amazing game. Truly special and it gave so much. Multiple areas to explore, 8 dungeons with explorable and story paths. Absolutely amazing PvP design (throw in Pve too), easily some of the best PvP of any game ive ever played. Multiple races to dive threw and get a small glance of the culture. Crazy good events that brought you in game skins you could get like halo/ devil horns/ back wings and the entire SAB series even though i dont care for it much.

HOT has fallen completely flat to me, story wise, lore wise, map wise, the destruction of build diversity in PvP and WvW. I spent that money to show support for what a great game GW2 was, i will not be purchasing the next expansion after everything becoming toilets that must be fed with massive amounts of farming.

Also its fine you and others agree with WP, thats great but instead of acting like its different. How about these writers and creators create a actual story line with characters that you want to feel something towards instead of simply questioning everything. People are no longer “into” the story but into breaking it down and questioning why these story is where its at.

The lack of lore for elite specialization was a huge flaw IMO. It didn’t have to be a complex storytelling, and even though white knights will state stories aren’t easy, I just take precursor crafting collections as an example: no cutscene, just NPC dialogs and item stuffs. If they can’t make these, Jesus… I don’t expect much from 2nd xpac.

Look at VB and the books you can buy from doing the event.

They could have implemented a story-lore section tab when you hit (H). Where they could of added the missing story lines of everything or lore to what we are doing when purchased instead of having us old books in our bank/inventory.

Literally everything about HOT feels like it was thrown in last second.

i understand that you wanted to see braham acting like an actual norm(me too) but think of the characters background how was his relationship with his mather and how was it cut off so soon after they started talking and connecting again (refering to lw2)
the fact that norms are writen as these being that act that way and are all about that stuff etc doesnt mean they are locked from expressing other emotions and feelings.

Im not mad with this direction as long as it properly develops and we see braham return to what the fans of the story want him to be.

Also about how the sylvari are different from what we were told and it was writen, im not sure what you mean there, i havent read books or anything so not really fammiliar with how the sylvari are different from what they were presented to be.

I agree with the OP, it is a shame that Anet is allowing lore to fall by the wayside if it isn’t part of the current Living Story. GW2 started with such great lore – don’t trash it just to fit stuff into what you are writing. Write to fit the lore. Treat it like you value it.

I believe that calling the elite specialization that way is self explanatory lore wise. the lore it is that the characters master their magic at the point they could specialize it to something else. i don’t know what you are looking for but for example do you need lore to explain chronomancers? they mastered the chaos magic o the point they can influence time and space, the skills gives you the hint of what the class is able to accomplish. same can be said about any other specialization, i don’t even see the need to explain something that character wise was always there once they realized how they can acces different branch of the same magic.

if you instead are talking just about rytlok story that’s a different matter.

It’s not necessarily a matter of needing to explain anything it’s about the desire to “be there” when your character learns the new magic. If it was an actual story with actual lore then it could be something special and not just a matter of clicking a button in the trait panel of the hero UI a bunch of times – et viola – you’re a Chronomancer and a shield and some shoulder armour just pop out of thin air into your inventory.

That was not a very satisfactory process IMO. A far more satisfactory process would be when your characters enter the jungle they come across some device/book/npc/interesting rock/anything else that begins them on their journey to master their elite specialisation.

In general I think that the expansion was light on content, these kind of sub plots (separate from the HoT story) would have been very welcome. I hope that the next expansion doesn’t just treat the elite specs as yet another trait line to unlock and gives a bit of meat to them. I also hope for fewer check-box collections like the ascended weapon collections for the elite specialisations where it’s “complete this list of unrelated tasks” and more follow something like a sub plot or quest line.

Ok so for me being a fan or the Norn culture and Sylvari the most. These are my favorite 2 races.

This expansion was suppose to give alot more insight to the Sylvari.

The Pale Tree was nurtured differently because of the Ventari Tablet and the people that helped her grow.

The Pale Tree is a Champion of Mordremoth, in the different story lines they have alluded to other Mother Trees. Our Sylvari had the strength given to us by the pale tree to choose our own paths. Hence the dream and ironically the dragon you fight coming from the dream state is the dragon that hurts the Mother Tree.

With the Living Story ending the way it did with Caithe, Faolin, the Pale Tree and Mordemoths awakening there should of been so much more to EVERYTHING.

Hot has been hot garbage compared to GW2 core story which had its own faults. GW2 core gave you a little story every where you went with dungeons and its explorable modes as well as the personal story which made way more sense the the HOT one.

Ive played threw the story on my asura ( i hated how my character knew nothing of technology. I understand that Anet made 1 story line for all classes so i can live with it though) and my Norn.( got a few complaints here as well but one again i can live with it)

When i started on my 3rd story run with my sylvari i had to stop 1/2 way. The first quest i stop a Sylvari from going mad, great stuff but after that its all down hill. Im the commander and there is all these hate-speech comments about sylvari and caithe. UMMMMMMMM HOW DOES THAT WORK WHEN IM STANDING RIGHT HERE?

Comments about the Pale tree and my characters inability to care for the very being that gave me LIFE AND FREE WILL.

Now of course this is my interpretation to the situation. I and my guild mates have discussed the story in details and we all remember different things and little things that stood out to us.

It is clear to me that the writers for the classes/races are gone since the story line has gone and blown up. On this very forum they have description of the classes and races. That type of depth and back round info is everything missing from HOT.

Its like if you wrote Star Wars with its vast characters and story lines. You quit and go else where and i take over and use a Sponge Bob movie line to finish out the Living Story.

We are officially a commander who has killed 2 elder Dragons with ease, with no back bone, no remorse/emotion towards the Pale Tree- Eir- Trahearne- and have no real knowledge of anything no matter what class or race you play.

Im fine with a lack luster interactive story if its good, this wasnt good and it didnt play to the MMORP this game is.

On a side note, I hope game artifacts will have a bigger of an impact in the game in the future. The Krait Orb is a huge mystery which I wish could be clearly explained. Having to assume things or get subtle references every single time isn’t super interesting. Wildstar had a plethora of parallel stories regardless of how awesome they were, they had their public and they pleased their public…
