NPC army is so weak
I personally rarely feel challenged in HoT in the Story instances. And what exactly is wrong with gliding?

Sounds like someone who is use to the face roll that was core(after all when you play a game for long enough the combat becomes second nature) and the differences in HoT where just too much. I remember being terrified of Smoke scales.

They are intentionally extremely weak since the story instances are made for solo play. If they would hit like you, you just could stand in the back and do their work – mostly.

If anything the core game should get a big rework with new mechanics every 10 Levels or so and some things like the Spider-Poison attack finally getting on par with the fact that conditions got revamped etc.
Ah well, one can dream.
I noticed it too, mostly during HoT, I downed, and I waited for them to kill last mob (hoping they would rez me)
There was 1 mob with 38% health. There was Rytlock, Braham, Marjory, Kas, Canach, even Caithe (why I let her live at time I still don’t know. the execute option wasn’t there).
But together, it took them over 5 minutes to get that 38% down..
That’s mostly Destiny’s Edge. I’m starting to think the Destroyer of Life in the book was an ambient creature if it took them that much effort to kill
Back in GW1 we had NPC henchmen and heroes with real damage, each one got their own profession(s) and function and you could set up your group as you wish
On the other hand story missions could also fail completely, so you had to start all over again if your group was defeated.
(like “gliding”, well, at least no other game will ever be tempted to pinch/copy that system)
Aion had wings and gliding when GW2 was still in developement and in new games like Revelation you can fly, too (although it seems to be endless there).

Thats because GW1 was designed as group content, so if you couldn’t form a group of intelligent people, you needed henchmen who could at least not hold you back. GW2 is solo content, so everything needs to be so easy that 0 people is enough to clear a run
What is wrong with gliding? Its one of the best parts of the expansion
I find that the whole NPC army around me in the instances is so incredibly weak why bother even having them? I can watch them fighting and they do not make even a dent in the enemy’s health. Are they just there for decoration ?
So as a single person you have to fight like 7 strong enemies and then more come, and more and it is not fun any longer. I only just played the expansion for 8 hours in a row today and really got quite frustrated with everything. (like “gliding”, well, at least no other game will ever be tempted to pinch/copy that system )
They NPCs are basically there for flavor. It’s a solo mission. You’re expected to do the work yourself.
Gliding is an excellent system. It doesn’t offer unrestricted flight, but the developers put those limitations to good use in the new maps. Personally, I think this is one of the greatest additions of the expansion.
Maybe spend more than 8 hours at it? It’s not unusual for first-timers to get wrecked in HoT. The monsters tend to have attacks that you can’t simply rush into without accounting for in some way. But for me and many other players I’ve helped along the way, what at first seems way too difficult is easy once you practice a bit.

Note that if the NPCs were as strong as the player, you’d no longer be facing 7 regular enemies, you’d be facing 30+, including veterans, elites and some champions.

The henchmen and heroes were great in gw2 because their skills did damage, and you could make them use which skills you wanted. Now that’s one person fighting as a team!
Aion had gliding first, but wings were simultaneous, sort of. When Aion was released (maybe preordered) there was a chance to get those wings on a GW1 account.
Edit: the current NPCs seem to be there for enemy distraction, you kill some while the npc harasses the rest, and occasional revives. Other than that, squishy meat bags that talk.

No, it sounds more like some1 is salty that some1 is speaking truths about their favourite game…
Don’t just assume things about the OP. Them not mentioning how hard/easy they found the combat has nothing to do with friendly ai behaviour.
