Will we be getting a lot of new Armor sets in HoT? And by that I mean the non-BLTP gems ones. We’ve gotten oh so very few “free” armor sets since release that weren’t gem bought and your direction at the moment seems to be to make an outfit out of anything new.
We like to mix armors, that’s what made the customization of our characters FUN.
Could we please get an answer on this? All this outfit nonsense is really breaking character customization…

It has already been stated armor sets will now be in game only, and outfits will be the only thing sold in gem store.

I doubt much, if any, new armors will come (I know they said they are but gems have to sell to keep the game going read: investors happy). Only craptastic outfits. Even if they did make any new armors as far as medium male goes they’d just be more dresses or skirts for them.

Speaking from a PVE-only point of view…

That didn’t really answer the question if we’d be getting a lot of new armor sets throughout HoT, or if we’ll get the ones at release date then one every year or so.

I just checked out the Heart of Thorns page, and found the following fashion info!
Dunno if I interpreted it correctly, but this is what’s listed under various pages:

From the open world you can get two new armour sets for each weight class, so six armour sets in total. Also five weapon sets, I assume that means five new models of each possible weapon.

From guild halls, you can get an armour set for each weight class so three in total, as well as two complete weapon sets, depending on the hall you choose.

From raids there’s legendary armour, which seems to be one for each weight as well. Then there’s also precursor armour mentioned, so I think that’s another three sets in total.

Then there’s backpacks too, a legendary one from PvP and fractals each.

Correct me if I’m wrong!

Thanks Gaebriel for that info!
That’s very nice to know, but again, those are the ones coming straight out with the expansion. I would, also, like to know if we’ll be getting a lot more armor sets than we did with the core game throughout its expansion or if they’ll be like the nearly yearly ones we get nowadays.

If they’d announced that they’ve gone in and fixed their rigging systems to allow any armor piece to work with any other armor piece, so that Outfits could be broken up into components that anyone could use, it would have topped anything they actually announced today by a mile.

This has to be some kind of joke.. TWO new sets of armor per weight? really? I can’t begin to explain how pathetically small that is.. I would have expected several sets per weight, per zone. On top of achievement/dungeon/etc rewards… This has to be a mistake…

Maybe this is just the Legendary armor.. seriously.. I can’t explain how utterly disappointing & pathetic this is..

Factions MORE THAN DOUBLED the number of armor sets. Nightfall just about doubled.. In a Cosmetically-based progression game… they add 2. This just can’t be right. There aren’t that many new monsters.. they didn’t add new emotes.. what are the artists working on? Based on how quickly they made the original game, there should be multitudes more sets.

It is right. Don’t worry, ArenaNet will add a lot of outfits to the Gem Store so you can customize your character’s appearance as much as you want… Assuming, of course, you don’t want to mix and match your pieces.

And? Are you saying that is significant number of new skins? Even if they did 1 new skin per weight on each map (which to me would be the bare minimum) they’re off by half.. It’s insultingly low. Maybe they really will have a significant number (I expected about 1/4 of the launch number of skins) but from all the announcements HoT looks like an expansion light on pretty much everything but price.

not that I’m not a bit disappointed myself, but keep in mind that Factions only had humans to deal with. Even just adjusting for Norn and Sylvari takes some extra work, adjusting for Charr and Asura is a mess.

That’s true. But every single class had it’s own gear and they also also had half the # of people working on it. Adjusting may take work, but it’s hardly like sculpting a new set. It probably takes more time just to design & concept a new set than to adjust one to fit a Charr.

They are working on the gem shop lol. Haven’t you noticed the absurd amount of weapons and outfits that has been pouring out lately for gems? We are getting 1 new weapon set and one armor set every 2 months or so for the past 2 years in the cash store. There are so many now that they had to beef up the Lion’s trade place and start a rotation.

I will be really disappointed in Anet if they decide to give us only 2~4 armor sets. It is truly pathetic for an expansion. They need to give the gem shop a time out and give the core game some godkitten love.

I really hope there are more than 4 armor sets. And 4 including legendary is still pretty bad, because that’s not exactly an investment most people are going to go for…even if they do like the set. It’s still an option, but having a wider selection of more obtainable sets would be much better. They should be putting out enough options in style to give a good chance of everyone liking at least one or two. Fewer sets just means more disappointed players. They can’t satisfy everyone, but they should try harder than this for the price they are asking.

I want to be excited about HoT. I want to want it. But most of what they’re telling us is so underwhelming to me. I just can’t justify $50 for what they’ve shown, and the hopes and unspecified promises of more to come later.

Expect new ones with the Living Story releases too.

Anet has been fairly consistent in showing that they are more interested in adding new skins via the gem store and BL chests than actual in-game rewards. So they’ll likely continue mostly ignoring armor and keep adding armor-ish costumes to the gem store.

Yeap and i hate every second i think about it. I dont mind to pay for skins, i never minded it, i bought a lot of gem store related items, and especially skins, in fact i waited every week for a new set of skins or backpiece or whatever. Even if there where ticket weapons that i liked i gladly played the chest raffle to get some tickets to buy em…or directly exchanged gems to gold to buy em… but outfits? F- that, i dont buy those, i want to mix and match. With the pitifull amount of armor skins we get for HoT i actually feel betrayed. 2 sets of armor and most likely 3 legendary armors who will follow the pattern of the ascended in design and have a generic look to them? Really? A handfull of “loose” skins (we dont know how many cause they are together with the “60 other thingies” that also include minis)? Thats it? I waited 1 year for that? No full armor set per specialisation to have a sort of “class specific” look with flavour? Only 1 armor skin and a weapon skin? Really a-net? Where is that “equality between gem store outfits and game reward armors” you mentoned in your blog back then? This really was a slap in my face…specially given that i saw how the specialisation pieces look on charr and asura…so not even good quality. That really hit home a-net…

Didn’t they add Carapace and Luminescent armor during the Living Story for ‘free’ (relatively)?

We’re paying $50 (more or less) for this and this is all that they can ‘give us’? I mean, we’ll still have to earn it, but there’s not much to go for

For example, in factions, we were able to purchase like 5 or 6 different ELITE armors for our particular class. Even more (for some classes) in Nightfall. Like 10 or so in EoTN.

People want to look pretty and they want to be cool and show off their accomplishments and stuff. Let us at least do that.

It’s a low number, if they have been working on HoT for at least a year. And they have different departments working on different content, even with the five races there should have been more IMO.

I was hoping for at least 2 new sets per map, per weight. Which would be 8 per weight.
I’m hopeful they will release more full sets through living stories.

Also I know some armors were datamined (Ley Line, wondering if this is one of the 2? and if the Rev armor counts as 1?)

As for the •60 UNIQUE ADDITIONAL ITEM SKINS, MINIATURES, AND MORE
I hope they atleast take other looks into consideration. Example Shadow of the Dragon (shoulder, arms and helm) in my opinion didn’t really blend with anything.

I understand outfits are easier to produce, which is why in another post I gave a solution. Release 1 outfit for each weight class when you make them, a heavy, medium and light look. Like the royal guard we received today, turn it into 3 versions.

I’m not saying it makes it ok not to make new armors, but it at least helps us between armors being released.

I just wonder if we’ll have any “red” input on this thread though. Something at least close to an answer would be fine, not really a “you’ll have X amount of armors” but more of a “we’ll be/not be introducing a few more armor sets through karma vendors and the like in HoT” would be great.

Yea and that “only difference” is what many people want. If you wanna look like a drone.. suit yourself, i wont judge, tastes differ and its your money. I however want my parts to make my looks suit my taste 100%…sorta like we had before they introduced these darn outfits who also replaced my awesome town clothes… what makes me hate em even more. Mix and match gives chars an unique flavour…or just a class specific look cause many people also sorta like to have their chars themed arround the class they play..or race for that matter or they just want to colour their look with more then 4 slots, hide their shoulders or gloves and helmet and so on. But why do i even talk to you… doesnt matter anyways, a-net already slapped us mix and matchers with the pitifull amount of new skins…

You would think they would have around 5 sets for each armor weight by now. It’s been 7 months since the expac was announced I believe and they haven’t done much at all to the game since then. Only outfits which go against what the games whole thing is about(being creative).

I mean a good portion of the end game is getting skins. So they should emphasize on that more. Games all about cosmetics, so two skins seems pretty lame. I’m also not sure if it’s two armor skins per armor weight but I’m hoping it is.

The big difference for some of us is acquisition. Armor obtained ingame provides something to work for, or get as a reward for content. Putting an outfit in the gemstore is asking us to simply put down money for it, whether it be our real world cash or gold earned ingame. I’m not against charging for cosmetics, but there really should be at least some that are available outside of that.

The excess of gemstore outfits and lack of ingame armor sends a message that they are more interested in that quick cash grab than trying to provide players with a better in-game experience to keep them playing (and spending). They are a business, and they are here to make money, but customers usually hold a business to some standards of offering consumers a sense of value/appreciation/respect in the product and not just asking for money at every turn. This seems to be much less prevalent with gamers for some reason, which just encourages the behavior from devs.

(edit)

Even the last set armor added ingame is still soft-walled (at least partly) behind the gemstore. Anyone not actively playing during all of the season 2 releases will have to buy those chapters in order to complete the Luminescent set. And I’m fairly certain at least one piece (leggings) of the Carapace set is only available after completing one of the LS chapters. The other pieces of that can be obtained from Silverwastes drops, but they are still fairly rare. The primary, straight-forward acquisition is via the LS chapters.

There also aren’t many added weapon skins that are free of monetization. The majority are currently only acquired through BL tickets. Even though you are able to buy them on the TP or buy BL keys through the gem exchange, they are still monetized items.

I thought about “only 2 new sets in open world” which is a total of 6 sets. Then I got to thinking maybe there is another 1 per weight for the personal story, since we do receive items for completing the story parts.

Still not as many as I expected for an expansion but I will remain hopeful.
