Guild Wars 2

There seems to be a lot of awesome new features with the Expansion pack but absolutely nothing was said about a new race, is this something they’re keeping under wraps or is it just sadly not happening for this expansion pack?

New civilizations was one of their points but during that part of the trailer there were Hylek/frogs shown and absolutely nothing about either Tengu or the Largos.

I’ve been told it was Tengu, and I really hope it’s true.

They would have advertised the kitten out of it if we were getting one.

If u watch the video for the preview of hoT, you see them there at the end glowing and golden.

I didn’t hear anything about a new race neither, but I don’t think it will be Tengu, they don’t live deep in the jungle.
Maybe it could be Zentaurs, maybe we don’t get a new race. We can’t know it yet.

From now, ‘til release, they’re probably just going to detail the features already announced, like the profession specialties and the mastery system.

I agree completely that they would be heralding a new race as a big selling point for an expansion pack.

Much like a new class, a new race is a huge selling point, I don’t think its likely for them to make them playable and not advertize (plus, nothing datamined to indicate it either)

Bringing a new race requires a lot of retro refitting of ALL current armors and outfits. That’s a TON of work required all for the sake of content that ISN’T new. After that point, all new armors and outfits would have to be fitted to one additional race, that’s 20% more work on each armor and outfit.

For this reason, a lot of voices in the community don’t actually want a new race because it would take away from time that could be spent on fully new content.

The game and company would have to grow a lot more to be able to justify the amount of labor that goes into creating a new race.

A new race would be fun, but it would really only be an aesthetic addition. And we have plenty of aesthetic options already spread across all 5 current races.

nope i am completely confident a new race is not something they would keep underwraps if it was coming as part of this xpac. think about it whats the upside?

They said no new race directly. They had to make a choice between a race and a profession for this expansion and decided on the profession. They felt it gave more playability than a race. No new race is coming with HoT.

It seems doubtful that there will be new playable races from a simple cost-benefit analysis.

Consider the huge amount of work from the art department that would be required in order to accommodate a new race in both current and future content, they’d need to design entire new variants of each armor type in order to fit an extra race, all while balancing the racial abilities to be ineffective because they don’t want race effecting gameplay.

Effectively, a new race doesn’t actually add anything to the game, but requires much more work to create and maintain.

It would be nice to be a new race but that is something they would advertise like no other. I highly highly doubt they would keep something like that as a surprise considering how much money they could make off it.
