New healing mechanics
I don’t think so. We shouldn’t encourage people to only do healing, because that will result in parties (within squads?) only having room for one person doing healing, as otherwise the damage output suffers too much. And then, instead of “LF HEALER!”, we get “LF 1 MORE, NO HEALERS PLZ”
I don’t mean to say that healing shouldn’t be rewarded. I’m just saying that sticking to pure healing shouldn’t be a thing, because that leads to problems.
There’s also the issue of how exactly do you calculate the rewards. There’s no obvious way to relate damage dealt to healing done, since 1:1 correspondence wouldn’t work due to monsters having far, far more HP than the player characters. You can’t just have it be “if you healed someone and they get drops, you get drops too”, because that shafts single target heals and promotes healtagging.

But Olba, healing will never outshine damage in this game. However, it is a type of play that many people enjoy doing. When I heal an ally, I contribute to their kill by keeping them alive to do it. I think it’s fair to give me credit for that. We have nothing to worry about in terms of having actual healer classes. We simply don’t have enough heals to do that.
I disagree you should not stay as pure healer especially in a group event. But I was was playing a druid during the beta and I got healed throughout the dragon fight and I still got gold contribution so…
Yes, this is a no-brainer. They should add rewards for healing, especially in WvW. No healer, will just wanna stop healing and AoE enemies just to tag and get rewards.
It will result 1) healers not doing a good job because they are AoE’ing to get loot and 2) Less and Less people will play healing/support and go back to the vanilla GW2 aka braindead dps spam.
I agree some of my WOW friends were complaining that there was no dedicated healer, There should at least be that option, and it should be rewarded.
I think it stands to reason that very few people would want to be (mainly) healers, if that meant that everyone else around them was scoring loot while they missed out.
Suggestion: Anyone who received a heal from player X and tagged an enemy with damage, the player X should also receive that same ‘tag’
Agree with you Pure, if healers don’t get rewarded for healing…. why not make it that only the player who gets the final blow gets the loot?
Its around the same logic… it would make no sense
If ANet is indeed trying to support the desire to play someone whose focus is healing — which seems to be the case — then some means to gain credit for events is a necessity.
I didn’t mean for it to be a mandatory healing role. But for those of us who mainly focus on supporting and healing, rather than attacking (well, attacking just from time to time), we should also get some credit for helping bringing down a foe.
Maybe the healing down to people attacking the mob could be taken in account for the reward we get.
@Olba.5376 You talk about the healtagging issue, but we already have damage tagging anyways. So that’s not a real problem
