There is one thing I don’t like about new specializations and I hope it will change in the future. Many of them seems to me like straight upgrades because they offer extra class skill with all benefits of core specialization. I would rather see replacement solutions or added F5 skill to core specializations to promote more diversity between builds.

When the next round of specializations come out, probably around the next expansion (whenever that is), they will be optional paths to the elite specializations already released. For instance, let’s say the next Thief spec is Acrobat, who gains lots of long-range movement skills. That thief player would have to unequip Daredevil and equip Acrobat instead. Also, there are a few people who actually prefer to have 3 of the core specs instead of the elite spec. Not many, but there are some.

They are straight up upgrades, that’s why it seems that way.

Specializations are fatally broken. Because they are straight up grades, they also push classes out of there core combat roles. Want to play a Ranger? Congrats, here’s a mandatory build with no synergies for doing ranged DPS or even using a bow. Want to play ele? Well I hope you like their weak-sauce scepter skills, because we’ve done everything possible to force you out of staff builds. Adding new elite specializations, if they continue over playing the new weapons and roles in the trait lines, won’t fix that fundamental problem. I mostly solo play, and can luckily completely ignore elite specs.

I would have to agree. They are universally upgrades to core trait lines. Only a few really give up any of their core mechanics. Ranger, Warrior and Mesmer just get more profession skills added on top of what they already had. At least with Reaper and Guardian theres an illusion of giving up something, even if it’s still a favorable trade in.

It was actually a great idea to have many different elite specs combined with the core specs for build variety. However that kinda fades away when theres only 1 elite spec :P

Some games give you new gear with higher stats and a level increase

This game gives you the same thing except through class specializations and masteries

As has been stated they seem like because they are upgrades which is part of the issue people had with certain competitive modes. The next expansion will be harder content and the next elites will no doubt be scaled to match it. Though primarily its to get people to buy the product and nothing more.

Guardian mechanic gave something up when they use DH? Lol. DH virtues are straight powercreeped upgrades. Spear of Justice has the same passive effect as Virtue of Justice, yet also has an unblockable 1200 range pull attached to it, that also applies more burning via justice.

Wings of Resolve heals for 2.4 times as much as Virtue of Resolve does, as well as being on 33% shorter cooldown in PvE/WvW, being a mobility skill, breaking immobilize and can be traited to deal damage as well.

Shield of Courage gives you a kittening shield instead of a single aegis. Though tbf in PvP it has almost twice the CD of Virtue of Courage after the last balance patch.

What exactly did guardians give up in their virtues if they take DH? Nothing, they do nothing but gain a kittenton on their virtues. Elite specs should change how you play the class, not just offer straight upgrades on your mechanics.

Expect that, unless the upcoming balance pass is a truly radical departure, future elite specs will also be, in general, superior to base specs.

Contrary to assurance at the time of announcement, elite specs are a form of vertical progression, or at least power creep, apparently used to drive sales of the expansion. I dont see ANet changing that system.

Well that’s exactly my case. I am playing melee power ranger and I have lot of fun with it. I feel no need to even fully unlock druid specialization, which has very little to offer for my build. I will probably do it anyway to try out different play styles. However I feel being punished for playing build out of druid spec.

I would like to see new powerful specializations. But maybe there should be something unique for core classes as well.

I really hope they won’t make any new specializations and overhaul them instead, so that it offers a different playstyle. Honestly, I would just implement new weapons that can be used by all classes, no matter the specialization.

that means a normal speacialization instead of a elite one, wich makes more sense than the elite crap Anet did.
Elite specialization should be a boost that could be aplyed to roles and several weapons and not tied to dumb gimmick gameplay.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.
