I don’t know for you, but I think with the current changes (I know it’s not definitive) the thief is getting way more oriented as a PvP class, more then it already was. PvE thiefs will lost some nice traits using combo skill like Pistol whip, which have a decent dps. Also most traits are focusing on daggers gameplay, (all those related to poison) which is boring (personnal opinion, don’t hate). Yes, the sword have 1 trait which is related with steal, which is not as amazing in PvE as it is in PvP.

That orientation can also be seen with others classes such as Warrior (shout/bow), mesmer (interrupt/confusion/PU), necro (MM), ele (DD nerf)

Again don’t hate, it’s my persnnal opinion and I know it’s not definitive, but I must say that I hope the Devs know they must not only look with a PvP angle when they create or modify traits (it look like it).

That being said, I love the new 3 specs only and the interface.
Next step: Elite spec (which can change what I wrote above) andTemplate.

Balance is done around sPvP.
It has always been this way and it’s probably a good thing because PvE can receive further balance through content.
WvW players usually get the hardest hits. Even if most changes are PvP related, the gameplay is just too different

The problem is not about the focus itself as much as it is about how little they care / oblivious they are about the impact on different game modes.

The way AMA went yesterday you can’t help but think that. “Are they balancing the around PvP or PvE?” I think the WvW crowd got hit the hardest though.

99% balance is around s/tPVP

1% of balance is around nerfing things like FGS, IB, and (apparently) LH

I can’t say in the 12 hours of s/tpvp I’ve played to get my Glorious medium chest piece because it’s not a dress did I see one Ele drop any conjure weapon.

This whole 3rd trait revamp is simply to make it easier for the Dev team to balance. Less traits = Less builds = Less balance needs

Speaking from a PVE-only point of view…

my ricochet thief got hit pretty hard, no longer being able to take both Ricochet and Invigorating Precision any more. i guess she’s gonna have to heal while stealthed from now on for her sustain, which of course means she’s gonna be doing less damage ):
