Just a thought: if, hypothetically, we would go after Kralkatorrik next… And we’d be able to explore the vast area’s of the Crystal Desert, why not allow us to unlock Mounts in that area as we can unlock Gliding in the Jungle?

A desert has a lot more empty, open spaces. It just makes sense! I’d love to see HUGE maps, with large gaps between content heavy hot-spots. A city here, an oasis there, a giant cavern in that angle… It gives us another angle of exploring, horizontal exploring, instead of vertical. I would love this concept a lot more than the current jungle one.

What do you think?

I think your thread is a clever way to beat a dead horse.

Frankly, if Anet decide to make maps that purposefully waste my time so badly that I need a mount to get around, I won’t be going there.

Can just Arenanet cut this plague by saying no to this a time for all please? We’re not in wow.

Yep, Menzies has it called and my money is on that as well. A Mastery in Junundu would make perfect sense. First learn to mount them, then unlock combat, maybe access to even more zones, possibly some wallowing under the dunes.

That would fit nicely next to a Mastery to resist your disgust at trading and exchanging with an undead nation (and at higher levels enlsit their support). Cause for sure we will need to enter an alliance with Palawa Joko and undead Elona to fight Kralkatorrik!

This is hilarious, as Anet has indeed made that type of map, and it needs a glider “mount” to get around.

Getting around with a glider in a map with horizontal levels is not the same as needing a mount to cut travel time for vast expanses of desert nothingness. The only hilarious thing here is that you’re equating the two.

Oh? Gliders and wings are both considered “mounts” in EQ2. And another category.. jumpers.

Gliders are an equipped external means to travel. Mount.

You never can tell. They might make the new expansion with zero waypoints and with mounts. They could have stables where you chose your mount.

For only one gold a day per char per map. New map, another gold. Switch to another char. Another gold.

.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet might give it to you.

I liked the old Post Mount system EQ2 had. Like WPs, you had to discover the mount stations, then rent a pathed, game controlled mount that would travel between stations.

Much faster than running, slower than insta WP, but a lot more immersive. Plus, you could jump off them between stations if you saw something you wanted to investigate. (You would be on foot then)

Considering the Crystal Desert is a Desert, oddly enough, its probably going to be windy, and there were a lot of Mesas and tall, rocky areas in the Crystal Desert, so theres still room for updrafts, and gliding to work.

They could have updrafts that blow horizontally instead of vertically, so we could fly around the desert more easily.

Personally, I want Gliding to keep it’s usefulness after we move on from HoT to the next expansion pack, rather than seeing another mastery for movement-based stuff like mounts.

Swiftness, Travelers Runes, Signets, Traits, and even Masteries all modify ground speed and that’s too much as is they need to implement mounts and wipe the board before the list of movement buff devices explodes in number. HoT does indeed count or how about go for a walk through HoT and see how many people are asking for a rez because they didn’t have speed boosts or the glider or even mushrooms to get around a swarm of pocket raptors. I don’t want Anet nerfing HoT so people can continue to make there dead horse remarks as I like the mob density and challenge. Might even help with people WP doing these major map events since WP’s are farther in HoT they might actually start using the WP system if they know they can make it back to the event before it ends.

No, the bad part would be speed buffs would get nerfed because apparently we can’t have “too much” of a good thing. Another bad part would be flying combat being like underwater combat with krait like mobs always CC us from many directions.

Mount for GW2: The Dead Horse. It does nothing, cannot move, and comes with a stick to beat in the pathetic hope it will. In fact, it’s dead, rotting, and makes every NPC around you shun you meaning that you cannot buy, sell, craft, or enter any town or city, ever again. Also, it makes you attackable by everyone in WvW, you cannot join PvP teams, etc.

Why? Because you are sick and disturbed enough to insist on riding a dead horse and beating it.

- This is a forum, expect logic to get left at the door, beaten bloody, and set on fire.

- The more asinine the post or thread, the more I am amused.

Yep , here we go. Anet gave us gliding so now that the flood gates are open give us mounts next. Then faster mounts. Then flying mounts. Then no ones on the ground anymore.

If you believe my thinking on that progression is wrong, just look at other popular mmo’s that introduced mounts.

The “Dead Horse” being flogged is giving any credence to old Dev statements re what will not be in game.

When mounts come, not IF, a good number of those going purple with rage at the mention of mounts will be enthusiastically grinding for them or buying gem cards.

Not me, ill be out, gliding is fun because it doesnt do anything aside allow you to go up or down, and its not always on.

Honestly i dont mind mounts if they are like the glider, if they do something for specific maps, See gliders, and the junundu from GW1, those are fine. I dont want my screen cluttered by massive particle effect monsters that ruin my FPS, and they really dont do anything for the game.

If everyone in the world could be rich then everyone would be rich, but it wouldn’t be good for the world. Some things are just better left out.

No rage, have just seen what happens with mounts in other mmo’s. If you want cosmetic mounts, i say go for it. Anet give um thousands to choose from. talk about a gold/gem sink. Problem is that many who want mounts, want mounts with benefits (speed). And this game isn’t set up for speeds in excess of what we currently have.

They actually do. They make it more convenient to reach certain areas while giving players another thing to aim for. They worked in WoW but not so much here where the base game isn’t really designed for them. If they ever do introduce flying mounts I hope they stay out of WvW because flying could open up a can of worms on that front. Imagine if flying were around in Alterac Valley? Yeah, too much abuse potential. It’s totally fine in PvE maps though where they only things that’ll attack you are AI.

I don’t get what you’re actually going on about here. If you think gliders qualify as mounts, I won’t argue with you about that if it makes you feel better. My point was that if maps are so large and empty that it becomes sensible to have mounts just to travel around, that would be stupid. Furthermore, since you want to make it a ‘thing’, that’s not the kind of experience you get from gliders in HoT.
