Lv.80 Scrapper (Alchemist Persenia)
Lv.80 Druid (Mender Zalintyre)
After playing through the entire HoT story, I have not come across any specialization lore. Only Revenant and Druids are mentioned through out the story and some dynamic events. That’s it. ANET why is that?

Rytlock: “I’ll talk about my new powers once we get a rest, so shut up now”.
Maybe it’s the same thing about our characters They don’t feel like talking now.
I would be interested in Chronomancer lore though.

Rushed x-pack is why there are holes in many areas still. You can see plenty of cut corners . I hope that they use LS to flash out spec lore, add more text to npcs in the new areas.
Yeah, elite specs were handled terribly. Worst part of the expansion by far. Instead of being auto-unlocked but requiring 400 hero points to finish, it would have made about a billion times more sense to lock them behind some bits of interesting/immersive story content midway through the expansion and then, once unlocked, have them require only a slightly higher than normal amount of hero points to master (maybe 100 or so).

Heard the cutscenes are in a really poor resolution too.

People predicted for awhile the whole “Eir died a Braham gets her bow and becomes a DH”. Eir died and Braham got the bow but we haven’t seen the DH yet and there was a big cliffhanger at the end of personal story. Obviously HoT story is going to continue and we’re going to see this stuff.
SPOILER
Belinda is a Warrior with a greatsword. Marjory is a Necromancer.
Belinda die. Marjory take her weapon.
Necromancer Elite => Reaper (Greatsword and shouts)
Eir is a Ranger with a longbow. Braham is a Guardian.
Eir die. Braham take her weapon.
Guardien Elite => Dragon Hunter (Longbow and traps)

Not fusing this aspect of the game into the lore is horrible. You’re telling me we have to work though the entire game just to unlock them and then when we finally do there is no real purpose in the story tied to them?!?!? How is that good design? What a huge missed opportunity! What a huge disconnect between designers, artist and writers. As an outsider looking in, it sure does seem ArenaNet is quite a mess to have missed this opportunity. What’s more Rytlock is a Warrior and he transiting to a Revenant. So he makes a class change not possible for the player he does not transition to an Elite Specialization (although the way it’s cut together it makes you think that Warrior’s elite spec was originally planned to be Revenant)
The concept of being able to transition your base class into a new specialized class is something AION offered up back in 2010. Even with AION the class transitions were fused into the story. When you transitioned from a Priest to Chanter or Warrior to Templar it was part of the story. Bear in mind AION is considered a grind-fest MMO by many.
I never wanted them auto-unlocked in GW2…. I just expected them to be handled like NCSoft’s AION handles transition from base class to specialization (e.g. Warrior to Templar in that game) unlocked 25-30% in so the player could enjoy 70-75% of the game content with their new class mechanics. Requiring us to play though 75-80% of the the expansion only to get full unlock to make viable build near the very end makes no sense. In multiple threads ArenaNet has been asked to discuss this from a perspective of “why have you chosen to make Elite Specializations and end-game reward instead of something a player can enjoy HoT with” and they have no response.

That’s not tied to your character in any way. It would be lore, yes but it would not be fusing the Elite Specialization unlock into a players story to feel like an achievement. If what you’ve described is all their is, It’s a very cheap way for a game studio to handle fusing something so core to the expansion into the story. It’s an afterthought approach.

anet never cared much for professions lore. We didn’t have any lore for the original professions. You just go to a trainer, buy the books, unlock the traits.
And yeah, it sucks.

Rytlock is a Warrior
While I do agree with all your points I do have to mention that Rytlock is (was?) not a warrior. He uses a pistol.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rytlock_Brimstone
Rytlock’s skills are unique, in that he may wield a pistol in his off-hand. As such, he uses a combination of warrior skills and thief skills
Many NPC Charrs have heavy armor + shield + pistol OR sword.
Rytlock isn’t different. Charr skill “hidden pistol” reflect that too.
Rytlock is a warrior as much as other NPC adamant guards.
One thing I learned from final fantasy xiv while i waited for the hot release, was that a separate lore for a toon skill progression is awesome and could have been far more interesting on the leveling from 1-80 while you level up learning about your class. Zaithan could have come later, after you hit 80.
Now, about the gw2 game as it is… well, its not perfect. But it’s fun, and i have been enjoying the progression without focusing on the grind and eventually unlocked half of mt elite spec and all the new maps (not 100%of course) just playing and exploring. so.. its fun, im not quite sure why people are so eager to rush and get everything.

Exactly. When I played Final Fantasy 14 Online, they had lore for the classes there. They were tied into the game. Arena Net just slapped on the Elite specs, and made us work hard for it, with no LORE attached. The only thing we get with the Revenant, is constant questions to Rytlock, and rytlock just continues to say “Not now, later.” Smh, this is highly upsetting.
Thank god Im a Role Player, so I can just make up my own stories, but its still not good enough. ANET needs to look at how Square enix handles their lore in FFXIV, and try something in the future with the classes and elite specs that we have.

I simply wanted to say this, I never considered FFXIV to be an mmo. Just a FF game with multiplayer features, it’s personally more enjoyable that way.
I believe Anet can learn some things from sqare enix, but I also believe squaresoft can learn a lot of things from anet…. like the bot issues in there and other stuff xD
Anyways, I wanted to clarify that I love both games, and I wont take sides :p
