If I am reading correctly, No guild hall means no Scribe trainer.

Without a scribe a guild is worthless.

Wow. If true, it is underhanded and nasty.

I was thinking the same thing. I haven’t and will not be buying HOT and now my guild is pretty much useless? It was a completely upgraded guild and now all I can get is two upgrades to add a repair and a merchant npc to a guild hall I don’t have/want.

10k influence = 50 favor? What kind of math is this, when a banner that cost 200 influence now costs 500 favor?

This is seriously kitten. Expansions should add content and features, not take existing features away.

I Guarantee there will be no HoT purchase from me. Not when you pull this kind of low garbage to sell it.

I enjoyed making banners and sharing them. I enjoyed making upgrades for WvW and my guild catapults.

Now, I can’t make anything. I got 0 initiative refund for all that was taken away. My Guild has a storage chest, and nothing else.

I’m furious.

This was my worry about HoT that it would alienate the people who’ve paid for GW2 and treat them like FTP players if they didn’t buy the “upgrade”.

So, what all can we do with a guild without HoT and a hall?

I’m in the Initiative HQ of a small guild I’m in with a few friends, and I can see where to buy banners/guild siege/etc this guild has unlocked.

But when I go into the HQ for my personal bank guild, all I can buy is a karma banner and guild cata, and I don’t see any NPC that’s actually offering me upgrades to access more banners/etc. I only see the option to add the merchant and repair anvil.

I have to be missing something here. This can’t be how Anet intends this to be…

We can buy a merchant and anvil for a hall we can’t have. No Hall, no scribe trainer= no upgrades, no consumables.

Without HoT you can’t go beyond what you have today.

And it seems the only way to even get the stuff we’ve already unlocked is by spending favor on it. While scribes get to craft them through recipes using materials that have to be a hell of a lot easier to come by than favor.

This is just inexcusable and needs to be fixed ASAP. We should at least have limited access to scribe crafting to the make consumables that have been in the game for years.

I’m not going to be using the consumables and resources from my main guild to drop banners for friends and the general public, or to get a guild cata for a couple friends playing in wvw. The friends I play with don’t even have permissions to use those types of things in their main/larger guilds. And now our smaller friends-only guild is not going to have viable access to those outside of us buying them with our personal guild commendations.

I’m not very happy, either.

I have a bank guild I was levelling on my own, simply because I would never expect other people to have to work for my storage needs.

I had spent 10,000 on a (queued) upgrade, so I could then get my final storage increase and not only has that just disappeared, but (unless I’m missing something?) it looks like I won’t be able to re-earn it, on my own, at all.

All this will probably be fine for bigger guilds, but the game doesn’t just exist for them, surely?

I have HoT, BTW and have spent £100s on this game, so far, including buying all personal bank slot upgrades and full bag slot upgrades, on two chars, so this really doesn’t feel fair, at all.

10k influence = 50 favor? What kind of math is this, when a banner that cost 200 influence now costs 500 favor?

Yes, I have my existing guild storage, that is not in question.

What I don’t seem to have (or have any use for, anymore), is the queued upgrade I paid for, for an upgrade to “Architecture”.

This upgrade was required to, subsequently, allow me to purchase a final upgrade to my bank space.

Which it now looks like I won’t be able to earn, on my own?

From what I can ascertain (and, admittedly, I am still a little confused…), these changes will be hurting small guilds the most.

Small guild and solo guild are very different.

To begin with, it is absurd that a solo player can get 3/4 of the guild stuffs by themselves. Solo player can even buy their way through. Of course, a lot of people took it for granted but honestly speaking, you don’t actually see such thing happening in another MMO. You don’t really see solo guild in other mmos, to even start a guild, you need to have a number of people to do so.

The large guilds work their way up through combined efforts, building a large guild is not even that easy in the first place thus there’s are only that many large guilds in this game. There are tons of small and medium sized guilds than large guilds. Anet didn’t make cross chat for large guilds, they made it for the small and medium size guilds, cross chat actually put some stress on the large guilds since more kind of people can now join them so much easier than before. Anet didn’t remove the influence because of large guilds, they did so for the small and medium sized guilds because they are the ones that complain about influence, too bad for solo guilds though.

There are things that are intentionally done for the small and medium sized guilds, nothing is intentionally done for the large ones except for limiting their growth for guild hall. However, anet also want to give “Guild” their rightful place and meanings by making people earn for that place, so that “Guild” won’t be just yet another “thing” in Gw2 which a solo player can earn everything by himself or herself.

The question I need to ask is why build something that you were told was going away?

I read the following as they’re going away so use them or lose them -

1. Activate any unused 24 or 48 hour buffs for your guild before Heart of Thorns launches.

Your guild will not be able to activate any unused 24-48 hour buffs for your guild after HoT launches. Any remaining buffs following launch will not be accessible and any time remaining on an active buff will be carried over until it naturally expires. This does not include your banners and feasts which will continue to exist in the Storage tab of your guild panel.

I have a Solo Guild in Everquest 2. level 60, earned by me, solely since level 19, and it was a hell of a lot more work than anything here. I have one in GW as well. I also had one in SWG. In all cases these were “sole survivor” guilds as people stopped playing. Same as my Guild in GW2.

I earned all that my Solo guild here had by the rules in place. If they wanted a higher criterion going forward, fine, but taking away nearly all of what I had earned in game, following the rules in place then, is just wrong. Gating the ability to rebuild my guild to a purchase of HoT is even more wrong.

And I was fine not earning commendations and doing bounties and such. It was ok, that was group content. I never asked for the ability to solo every guild related activity.
There was already a lot of group centered guild activity, and never did I ask or expect that I could do those things.

I’m sure HoT guilds will include Solo guilds anyway. Non HoT guilds, no matter what the size, have been destroyed.

It really is not about Solo guilds. It is about destroying a core content accomplishment that has been here for years in order to further leverage an expansion purchase. Which, in my opinion, is both petty and shoddy.

No, it’s not. It’s absolutely fine. It’s their game too. They work for it or pay for it. It does not come for free.

. You don’t really see solo guild in other mmos.

Yes you do. For example in Neverwinter you need a minimum of 5 people to start a guild and it’s very common to pay a small fee to 4 random folk to temporarily join you so you can start a solo guild. There are regular calls for it in chat and plenty of collaborators. And the main reason for a solo guild there is the same as here – cheap storage. I’m pretty sure in GW2 we’ll see a culture emerge for solo guilds to help each other capture their guild halls. And that’s fine, isn’kitten It has no impact on other players and doesn’t harm anyone. Play the game any way you want.

Like you said, they had to receive help from others to create a guild. Solo is called solo because you gotten do everything by oneself but the moment you need help from others, it is no longer solo.

What TS want is a solo guild, a real solo. Not receiving help from anyone to do anything, that is why he is complaining because he can’t solo to obtain things again.

All those solo guilds now need to learn to ask for help or even buy mercenaries if they want something. No longer the one-man show era.

Expansions shouldn’t remove access to existing, fundamental parts of the game, though.

That is not supposed to be their purpose.

The clue is in the name…

If they want to remove existing stuff, maybe they should call them “contractions” (and watch their customer base numbers plummet)?

Funny. I’ve had a guild with upgrades for years. Now I don’t. Unless I buy access to something I already had. Guilds are not “new content”.

And I agree. I shouldn’t have a guild hall. It is “new content” That is HoT only. Fine.

Trouble is, the only means I have to replace what was taken away in what is essentially a guild revamp is located in that “New” guild hall.

It would be the same if they announced that they were removing and revamping Elite skills… and then placed the New replacement skills solely in the Expansion. People would throw a fit.

No one should have to do that, just to have access to what they already had.

As I say, I personally bought HoT, but that doesn’t mean I think it’s OK to take stuff away from those who didn’t (or didn’t yet).

Just add stuff in xpacs, please, games companies – don’t try to take stuff away, or make purchases compulsory.

That never ends well…

Streamlining is sometimes necessary, of course; but just taking stuff away for arbitrary reasons? No.

Just ask Blizzard…

ArenaNet doesn’t deserve money for an expansion from a customer if they didn’t make content that person wants. Since they don’t want guild halls, they’ll have to accept that. That’s not what the complaint is about.

They took content from the already existing guild features and locked them away behind purchase of the new expansion. They’re forcing users hands and that’s not a very friendly business practice at all .

It’s not new content. This is stuff we’ve had for years that’s now been taken away and put behind the expansion’s price tag.

And even if I do buy HoT, I’d still need to get a hall to gain access to this stuff again. Which doesn’t seem to be all that accessible to a guild that’s just small group of friends. There’s not really enough of us to do the guild missions to earn the favor required for upgrade unlocks.

You have HoT, so you can earn upgrades, but you will have to get a guild hall and access the scribe trainer. Dunno about the Q’d bank upgrade. I lost anything that was not a consumable, my PENDINGs were 24 hr buffs, and they are gone.

Also peeved this was buried here. It is not a HoT issue, it is a normal, core game issue affected by NOT HAVING HoT.

Yes, ITA.

Common sense is a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge things, which is shared by (“common to”) nearly all people, and can be reasonably expected of nearly all people without any need for debate.

Yet here you are debating about not being able to access Guild Function because:

A) They are a solo guild? Would this not be considered an oxymoron?
guild : a group of species that have similar requirements and play a similar role within a community.

B) features are tied to the new mechanics developed for the expansion.

Honestly though, why are you still playing this game if you’re not going to get HoT?

@mrstealth.7601 – how much do you need? We have a small group of friends with a guild with 11k inspiration. We only set it up a week ago. Where does that leave us?

I believe (I’d hunt down the source but I can’t remember where it is) that the minimum the claiming event will scale down to 5 people. I know they’ve added an upper cap of 150 players on the claiming event. So as long as you have 5 players you should be fine claiming your hall.

I’m not sure how many people it really takes to claim a hall. But 11k influence doesn’t mean much now. It’ll convert to a small amount of favor, but earning more favor could be a problem. I know favor comes from guild missions, but I’m not certain if there are other ways to get it or not. Unless there is a secondary way to earn it, guilds that aren’t large enough to effectively complete missions are pretty much screwed over now.

Hmmm.

So would we all need to own HoT to access the guild, or just the guild leader has to have HoT?

I came, I saw, I continued watching as I’m a newbie…

Guild hall needs to be claimed by a party who all have HoT. After that non-HoT-ers can go to the hall but some any of the hall features will not be available to them.

I have purchased hot. Desperately wish I could get a refund.
The treatment of small guilds and the lack of communication of the losses of everything already gained makes me want to puke.
It has cost anet every future cent I would have spent on this game.

That’s what expansions do, it adds new content and won’t let people that don’t buy it have access.

No, they remove content from the old game and eliminate all the rewards for our efforts made there.

So most of my guild (10-15 active members) quit the game around 2013 due to lack of updates, we had it all, fully upgraded, did all guild missions every week.

I wanted to wait around a bit before making the final decision on purchasing HoT by just doing what I usually did which is running around in WvW, claiming & defending stuff but… “Your guild does not have all the upgrades required to claim this objective”.

Really arenanet? What are you expecting from me? spend 45 euro to buy content we already had achieved? gg.

Location, location, location.

My personal guild and as well as my smaller friends guild had access to some wvw claim buffs. So I guess that stuff is all gone now, too. I hadn’t even tried to do that yet.

That is a core mechanic of wvw, and should be accessible through the initiative HQ.
