No, no new level cap. It’s not needed. If you want all the gear you have to be worthless there are plenty of games out there that work that way. I don’t fancy all the time and gold I put into kiting my main out in full acended equipment to be wiped out by an expansion. I’d be kittened.

Stop trying to play WoW in GW2.

GW2 is not about “leveling.” It is about adventure, exploration, story, activity, and fun.

Remember that the first game had a level cap of 20, which you could hit in one afternoon on a new character even as a casual, non-hardcore player. Because the purpose of level progression in Guild Wars is to act as a tutorial for the game’s systems, giving you time to learn and develop comfort with the game’s mechanics and how skills and traits interact, and how your playstyle will be most comfortable.

The only reason the level cap in GW2 is 80, is because people cried endlessly about how the level cap was set so low in the first game. There’s no actual gameplay reason for it to change, ever.

The whole idea is content. I mean, would people be satisfied if the level cap was a million? Because they could set the amount of xp required for a level to 30 or so, let you gain 15 levels from harvesting an ore node; a million is totally doable. And then just think how easily you could brag to your former WoW buddies!

Seriously, stop doing this. Guild Wars isn’t WoW. Stop trying to make it WoW, and try enjoying what it is.

I don’t think you are stupid… But if leveling for the sake of leveling is really important to you, then GW2 may not be for you. ArenaNet have been saying since before launch that this game is never going to be about a level grind, or gear treadmill.

That said, there will be some form of character progression in HoT via masteries.

No you are not stupid and yes a lot of ppl would like the same things. But ppl here are pretty sensitive about things like that because they like different things than the usual MMO player and GW2 is basically the only game giving them what they want, while standard MMO rain every year the marked (even if most of them are not that good).

So when some ppl talk about raising lvl cap, adding tier of gear, geargrind, holy trinity, etc Then they automatically enter defensive mode (I do too, but I try to stay calm). We just love the game that Anet gave us and its the only MMO that fit our needs, so we are fast at defending it, even if we react like idiot while do so sometime.

Increasing levels would invalidate all the work people have made gearing up their characters and would turn the game into an endless grind to stay competitive in PvE and WvW.

This games philosophy has always been to limit the amount of grind that you do so you can just enjoy the game at whatever pace you choose.

The original game, Guild Wars 1 kept the level cap at 20 despite releasing 2 additional campaigns and an expansion pack and instead released skills to allow players to experiment and keep their characters fresh.

I’m afraid you’re in the minority as most players of the game are against a level cap increase, but you’re certainly not alone.

I personally don’t want to have to re-gear, re-level and recreate builds for all of my 13+ level 80 characters as I would much rather play whatever character I’m in the mood for and not have to worry about levelling up before playing WvW or the new PvE content.

That said, they are releasing a “Masteries” system where you can earn new abilities and environment skills that you can level up in place of an increased level cap.

And I’d like to make it clear that even though I have 13 characters, I know exactly how to play each and every one of them and spend hours making sure I have the right gear, traits and play rotations to be viable in whatever game mode I play each of them in. Just in case your comment earlier somehow invalidates my comment in your eyes

Pamela, you will have other means for advancing your character with Specializations and the Mastery System, a level cap increase is not needed.

Yes, some people like to see numbers increase, but Guild Wars is not about that. With a new level cap new gear grind would be introduced effectively invalidating the hard work people have put into obtaining their armour and weapons. What Arena Net have done is include systems that makes your current character still relevant and have progression you can aim for.

The fun is in the adventure not the statistics and I think Arena Net have selected a sensible and considerate approach.

Let me guess, you want the level cap to be 100, and you want over 2,000 AA’s so that you can endlessly level your character(s) JUST like how they did in Everquest?

I don’t want to see GW2 going down the same road as WoW, that bugged the crap out of me to be leveling again after each xpac and seeing all my hours of obtaining gear to become obsolete.

Also I didn’t like in WoW how one xpac I’m killing a dragon, next xpac I’m struggling to kill this squirrel in the new zone. It was just stupid.

Then there is the numbers crunch which has finally caught up to WoW and again it’s becomes silly.

I think the GW2 system of horizontal progression is such a good idea. My character can still develop new skills as if I was leveling without the unnecessary level increase attached to it or the unnecessary gear loss.
