No new playable race?...
Anet never teased us about Tengus, WE teased ourselves.
Actually happier bout new profession, something totally new instead of a new race with the same old professions
I am excited about every part of this new expansion EXCEPT for new new race…i really hoped we would get a new one.
They never teased us with new races
New race is purely aesthetic. That said I’d have loved to have both, but if I had to choice a new profession would be the better choice
As exciting as the new features are, I’m actually very disappointed that there won’t be another new playable race, especially considering how long the Tengu have been teased.
A new race for a huge expansion-pack announcement would’ve been jaw-dropping, but now, even though the other features are great, it feels like there’s something missing from it. Like I said, it’s mostly because the Tengu have been teased for so long, you’d think that they would FINALLY be given to us, but meh, sidelined again.
I’m not dismissing the other features, mind you. They’re really awesome, but for an expansion, you’d think a new race would be kind of obvious…
EDIT: …unless they’re keeping them superbly secret until right before the xpac’s release, but somehow I doubt it.
Why would a new race be obvious? Factions didn’t have a new race, Nightfall didn’t have a new race, and Eye of the North didn’t have a new race. It seems to me that it was obvious that there would be no new race. Besides, the story is written for 5 races, shoehorning in a six race would just be awkward.

I’ll agree to an extent, but more so than any other race, it’s been the TENGU that have repeatedly mentioned in conversations that they cannot wall themselves off forever, and eventually they would have to choose a side (not to mention Tengu were originally going to be playable since the start, but were taken off to focus on the other playable races).
You’d think a ground-breaking expansion pack would be the perfect time to decide, but I guess the Tengu are still on the fence—or, erm… wall.
Also, Mordremoth doesn’t give a crap about walls, as his vines can easily penetrate their defenses, so why doesn’t he, I wonder? It’s like Anet forgot about the Tengu entirely… ;_;
Some people are missing something here.
We get new races in the game, not playable sure, what makes you think the next expansion won’t? How many expansions did WoW go through before introducing new races to play as??
The Mursaat are only there to tease us… Vote for Mursaat (and Tengu) as playable race!

GW1 brought two new professions with each expansion, and from the get-go was never about any other races than human, so of course there weren’t going to be other races introduced for that game. They had heroes for that (the NPC’s that could be in your party).
And Tengu wouldn’t be shoehorned, as they’ve expressed in their own words that they will eventually get sucked into this conflict and have to choose their allies. I would think that Mordremoth’s vines would be able invade the Dominion of Winds from underneath them, and force them out of hiding, but I guess the Tengu are untouchable for whatever reason.
It’s not awkward to introduce a new race, if it’s done right.
GW1 had CAMPAIGNS not EXPANSIONS. GWEN was the first expansion. Everything else you could play by itself. You didnt need the other 2 campaigns to play one. An expansions requires u to have core to play it.
Yeah if u watch the video they introduce a new race at the end. They stand there glowing and golden. they’re not playable.

There’s clearly a LOT that was left out of the announcement. There’s only so much information you can pack into an hour and a half talk. They didn’t go into very much detail about anything.
So things like dungeons or even a new race ‘may’ still be possible as we learn specifics. It’s unlikely and I am disappointed that we won’t get playable Tengu. But if not this expansion, they better be in the next!
Really, really wanted Tengu. Walking away from this reveal disappointed because I love Guild Halls and new skills, but I REALLY wanted Tengu.

I feel the same way. I still haven’t made an Asura or Sylvari. A new profession is good.
I dont understand why people are so into new races, its literally just for looks in this game and offers no play value. Its a huge timesink for them to add new armor models/fits for this new race that will offer ZERO gameplay additions. This is so far down on the list of things the game needs that its hard to see it.
ANet said that more info would be released down the road. Given that, I believe that new playable races are still a possibility.

If they needed to leave something out, I’m glad it was races. I bet most people won’t even play a non-human- like race

Blood Elves/Dranaei were released in their first expansion Burning Crusade, but that doesn’t matter. This isn’t WoW.
There aren’t any races in GW2 that I would like to play (aside from the ones already available)
No 1 said, there will be no new race either lol
New Races = more diversity. Mursaat = awesome. Tengu = awesome. So why should someone be against adding new races to the game?
Yah, I’m a bit disappointed on no new race. I’ve got 2 character slots waiting for a Warrior and a Thief character, and I’d much prefer to use those on a new race, and I thought surely an expansion would finally give me that.
I mean, its not 100% confirmed there won’t be a new race, but I think that would be mentioned or at least hinted if it were going to happen, and there was nothing. Not even a random Tengu appearing in the story or anything that would be a vague hint.
I’m not sure how to proceed with my character slots now. If I bite the bullet and make, say, an Asura Warrior and a Sylvari Thief now so I can finally say I have a character of every profession, I can guarantee I’ll become too attached to them to delete them (as I have with all my current characters), and then if we do get another race I’ll have nothing left to use with that new race, as I’m not all that interested in making multiple characters of the same profession. But if I keep waiting for a new race, who knows how long I’ll be waiting and if it’ll ever happen at all. If an expansion isn’t the time for a new race, will there ever be, or is this it?
An extra added race would really add an extra dimension to horizontal progression. I really hope we’ll get Tengus in HoT
Mursaat would be cool if they add them to HoT, not Tengu.
Tengu have felt more like a Bubbles addition to me from the beginning. I could see them in the Deep Sea Dragon’s expansion.
IMO it’s really weird that they aren’t going to release a new race, seems like something that usually comes with an expansion

Are you perhaps confusing Tengu with Largos? Tengu are the bird people, why would you associate them with the water dragon?
I was disappointed when the Tengu weren’t announced, it is one of the most, if not the most desired new race people want. They also won’t be shoe-horned as it was said, they already have stated, they will need to join a side eventually. With what happened in Lions Arch that kicked this whole thing off. I was certain they were going to chose a side there alas, nothing was said.
If anything, they may come playable when we go after the destroyers, as they have been harassing the Dominion of Winds since launch.
I also am a firm believer that the best way to compliment a new class is a new race, but that is just my opinion.
I honestly think we won’t see anything about the Tengu for a long, long, long time.
Isn’t the focus on silvary?? How does a new race not take away the attention???
The Dhuumfire thread
First i was think the new race is this stoneman with dog. But its boss. So sad
I honestly doubt we’ll ever get a new race.
I don’t see them being willing to adjust every piece of armour to a new race, seeing how they don’t even want to do it with the charr.

I was thinking the same- New Race of Tengu… :P
And I suppose this will force me to be better crafter now LOL?
You can only blame yourself you hyped yourself about a new race coming there is none i’m afriad :P and it was never a topic so idk that’s just ppl hyping stuff stop with that and you might now get so dissapointed all the time …. and i’m VERY excited about the expansion will get pre order has soon has it’s available

Because every Tengu I’ve talked to in game has a definite Canthan feel to it (their accents/dress should have gone the way of the dinosaurs if they’d been native to Tyria since they would have learned speech from Tyrians over 250 years). Bubbles is preventing them from returning home since his domain is the sea dividing the continents.
Had they been given the same accent, or at least one that wasn’t inspired by Asia, then I could see them as native Tengu to Tyria and not from the already established Tengu civilization in Cantha. Them walling off behind a wall and refusing outsiders explains why they didn’t lose the accent if they were from Cantha originally.
I don’t understand why they put Largos in to be honest. I really don’t, first time I came across them I thought they were humans wearing some contraption that would be more effective in the air for gliding than traveling through water. Seeing some of the risen I can only think the Largos were an after thought to explain something which did not need explaining… why the Dwayna priestess (or whichever it is) looks like a Largos instead of a human. Easy answer, Zhaitan’s influence warped her specifically. Instead they invented Largos because someone thought the design was cool and should have been other places than Orr.
I hope if they’re not in the Expansion they can be worked in through Living Story. I REALLY don’t want to wait another two to three years to make a Tengu. I’ve had a name for one since launch.
