When I found about Stronghold at PAX, I was thrilled that we will finally get a battleground map in this game, where a casual PvP player will go there and enjoy the fun in a more relaxing way. I mean, at this point, all the PvP maps are 5v5, where a single person’s mistake could cost a winning of the game; your actions and your ability to win a duel are so important and therefore so stressful for a PvP casual player and he couldn’t enjoy a match as he could on, let’s say, a 15v15 battleground map. But recently I found out that this map could be again 5v5!… or at max 8v8, depends of the feedback of the community. I know the competitive PvP players (which will have a major impact on the decision) will asking for a 5v5 map, so they could play this map in various cups, and I won’t blame them, because they are the ones who plays PvP a lot and want new stuff. But, anyway, I still hope there would be voted for 8v8, or at least, to bring both options, 5v5 and 8v8, so everyone enjoy this new mode. And I don’t mean bringing 8v8 in Custom Arenas, where you will earn 5x times less points than an Unranked or Ranked Arena.

We will be able to run it up to 10v10 on custom arenas according to the interviews. Make sure you give feedback when running it and tell them what you feel is the optimal player count.

IMO I reserve judgement until I get to play the map first. It all depends how many objectives there are at any time and how large the map is. For example, in the current maps I hate 8v8 with a passion, because it’s just a big clusterf…ing gang bang in a too small space, with no emphasis on individual skill. However, the new map could work perfectly with 8v8 or even 10v10 provided there is enough space and reason for the group to split up.
