Just a note to say that we’ve disabled one of the hero points in Auric Basin for a little while to allow the team to fix an exploit with—of all things—poisoned bacon.
The devs will get a fix in very soon and you’ll soon be able to acquire that hero point soon.

People should be able to use regen items to get this ridiculous HP. I don’t have adrenal mushrooms nor will I be getting it anytime soon (if ever) thanks to Anet not having enough mastery points outside of adventures (which I hate with a passion). You can have all the mastery point insights and strongboxes and you still won’t come close to getting maxed in all masteries without being forced to do adventures.

Timing? I just put skill 6 on autocast :P
I really hope they haven’t made adrenal mushrooms required though. I’m still trying to get poison lore for that hero point in Tangled Depths and that’s only tier 4. Adrenal mushrooms is right at the end of mastery progression and shouldn’t be required for a hero point near the entrance of the second map.

You need to use it almost immediately the first time, if you use it when you get the most effect, the pattern will be off and you won’t make it. Although who knows how it will work now.

I assumed that was the only way to complete it (other than using food or something.) How had anyone else been able to finish it? There aren’t any variables other than the timing of the heal. If someone came up with a way for a friend to help, I would hate to see that removed. That’s creative problem solving, unlike the intended way to finish it which is just pressing the heal button.

I hope the autocast method isn’t what they call an exploit. Someone in Map explained it as a way to get the HP when someone else had just found the bacon. I thought it was deuced clever and went and did it myself, though a helpful Mesmer was casting alacrity and thus maybe autocast wouldn’t have done it. My first time there I had gotten it with manual presses, making sure to start pushing the key down the moment before the cd was up so I wouldn’t waste any time on key motion.
But taking away the autocast method would be pure meanness towards those without good latency. The Map explainer was in Australia and autocast was the only way they could possibly succeed.

When something is being exploited, send it via the email not via support tickets. Support tickets won’t get to the right people really and they want people reported in game. But since we can’t explain things, or maybe it isn’t really easy or appropriate to report exploits in game, there is the email to explain things to them as well.

Here is an earthbreaking idea, when someone contacts support and tells them of an exploit THEY then pass it on to whoever needs to view it.
Right now its like this
1) You try to report an exploiter in game, nope no option for it
2) You use this websites support option, nope they tell you to report it in game
Do you see the problem here? support do not even give you that @exploits email address to contact, until they make this system work hand in hand properly I wont be wasting my time with it.

This wouldn’t be an exploit, its a bug. If the hero point is giving xp every time its done then standing there doing it over and over again is no different to killing mobs in an area repeatedly for xp. The player isn’t getting around any wonky game mechanics they’re simply doing a hero point multiple times.

This wouldn’t be an exploit, its a bug. I disagree, this was clearly an unintended method of levelling which many players exploited to their advantage, now we can argue if its a bug or an exploit all day long, but personally I consider it an exploit, because the moment I saw people doing it I thought to myself, would anet really want people doing this? the answer I came up with was NO, therefore anyone knowingly taking advantage of something that is unintended is actually exploiting. Our logic differs clearly, and that’s ok.

Yep, I’m aware of that, having done it several times. But when I went back the other day, no matter what timing I used, I couldn’t complete it. I tried spamming right away, after one second, two seconds, three, etc. Nothing worked.
If you are medium or light armor wearer it’s easier. For heavy you need to be exact.
Take your total health and multiply it by 25%. Take that number and subtract it from your total health. That exact number will pop up when your health is depleting and that is when you need to start hitting 6. Then keep spamming it.
After consuming – watch the health bar drop and as soon as it goes down for the sixth time hit heal – then just spam heal as soon as it becomes available,
Done it on light/medium and heavy without any buffs and it works everytime.
I’m sure they’re fixing the fact that, even after completing it, subsequent bacon tastings continued to reward 10k+ experience.
You’re not allowed to have your experience. No sir. That goes against the ToS.
That might explain why when I was making attempts to do it there was a guy there the entire time completing it again and again. :O
I even commented that they were good at it.
You haven’t needed to do that for a while now, they lowered the cooldown on the bacon to 6 seconds.
I’m curious what the exploit was, now that the hero points been disabled, could we know what it is? It’s not like we can abuse it now.
That’s so not true. The reason they never elaborate on exploits is because the underlying concepts that let them work usually reveal faults in many, many places in the code.
