3 years later I just turned this option off, during a time of focusing on visual clutter Anet gives us the most obnoxious pvp league tags on our names that I could ever imagine, bye bye show player names, my appologies if I don’t know who you are anymore, I just hope I can recognize you by your snappy dressing. (yes I know you can see the name if moused over or aimed at)

What this really needs are subsections for “show guild” show friends" and “show party”

I don’t care about scrubs I don’t know…just the scrubs I do.

I dislike the pvp tags as they are, but if they looked “cleaner” and more conspicuous I probably wouldn’t mind. It’s just that a big yellow square is too much.

Yeah, we really need the ability to turn those off. I don’t play pvp, these tags are useless visual clutter to me. I don’t want to turn off player names – like Vavume, I wouldn’t recognise anyone any more and also because I enjoy seeing random character names that make me chuckle.

But it’s done the exact opposite. I don’t want to try leagues because if I dip my toe in I’ll be stuck with the ugly yellow square on my nameplate that I can’t remove.

Yeah I agree. I suppose the reason for these tags are Anet’s advertising PvP, but to be honest, I don’t have the slightest interest in PvP and I won’t have so by seeing these tags either. It’s just more things on screen. Name / Guild / Title was perfectly enough.

I wouldn’t mind it if the icon was only shown if you selected the player.

But if we’re showing off the PVP league badges, then I would want some love for PVE stuff like World Completion score or WvW Rank for WvW. Give some equity between the three major game modes.

I wish we had more options to turn off nameplates.
Squad/group ones are extremely annoying in PvE.
I want to enjoy the graphics the game has to offer, not be swamped in a sea of blue text.

I think the idea of having a PvP tag is nice, however I also think that it should be displayed as map completion. That means you only see it as you hover over a player rather than seeing it next to the name. Some people already have rather long names + a guildtag and now that icon is added to it aswell. It makes the UI look a bit messy so I hope they will change it.

The PvP tags are too bright and unlike the mastery numbers which are also bright, they always show up. It feels like they did this to push PvP and say, look how many do PvP!
