The participation system should have never gotten out of Test, or even concept really, it needs some easy tweaks to improve the user experience.

The issues are glaringly obvious to anyone that has played the HoT PvE maps. Participation takes significant effort and time to build, which most would agree is fine. The problem is any form of map switching dumps participation:

1) Get DC’d, 0 participation for you
2) Want to help a friend in another zone real quick, there’s an hour of events you did down the drain
3) Even INVOLUNTARYserver closure of your map, that dumps you back onto a different version of the same map, resets your participation!

It is unbelievable this user experience was let out of the development environment for actual customers, but fortunately the fix isn’t hard.

Instead of counting participation for a map and resetting on map change, use the same counting system but keep track of it per Zone (regardless of the instance of that zone you’re on) and reset participation for all zones at Daily Reset.

Please make this QoL change; the current system is awful.

Generally speaking, I agree. I don’t think a daily reset is necessary, but cross-instance would be a huge benefit.

I like the Rift system of participation. Even if u leave the map and go back to the city, u get ur reward scaled according to how much u participated. So if anything happens and u have to leave the area, u still get something. It’s a much friendlier and fairer system imo and you never have to worry about missing out on rewards, regardless on how small or big they are.

I agree, the gw2 system of losing progress if u change maps or get dc’d or w/ever is terrible and needs changing.

The whole participation/map process is really bizarre. Tonight I earn about 130% participation in TD. I then swap characters and do whatever for 20 minutes. I then return to my original character…and I still have my 130%. Things I don’t understand:

- If I had afk’d for that long my participation probably would have started dropping but playing another character for awhile holds the participation without any degradation?
- The game can somehow remember which instance a previous character was in 20 minutes ago and return me to that instance with full participation. But then on a million occasions I’ve swapped characters and back in seconds and suddenly I’m in a new map with 0% participation. The original map wasn’t even full given that it was quiet with no organization (the game doesn’t fill maps on its own without player taxis).

There is zero consistency when it comes to where the game decides to place you and thus if you retain your participation or not. I wish I understood it.
