I’m just now getting into doing the new zones from HoT and I discovered something I’m not sure if anyone else has brought this up. I keep getting your map will close and volunteer to move. But this happens like in nearing the middle uo to 75% through the meta. It becomes obvious at that point that people for whatever reason have left the zone and caused the map to hit the prep to close point. But when you volunteer and leave you lose all of your participation level. And if you stay you also aren’t going to get much of anything. If I have to leave the map this way I should retain my participation level since this effects my reward. I should not be penalized because people abandoned the map so late into the meta. I didn’t leave the zone I simply volunteered to move onto a more populated one so the game could close the old one sooner. Thanks.

Yeah this is the main issue with the partecipation system…you should retain it if you switch to another instance of the same map.

Even better, since there’s already a decay mechanic in place (if you afk in a map, after a while, you start loosing partecipation) i’d make it an account bound value that stays even after leaving the map. Make the decay more harsh, tho.
This way there’s no volunteer, instance hopping or disconnect that can ruin your day.

I hope Anet thinks to fix it his way. Would be perfect and would wipe 80% of the issues with the new maps.

It’s been a problem from day 1 and continues to get worse as fewer players play on those maps and most use the LFG tool to pile into a few active maps causing maps to close quite often. I’m not sure if Anet has acknowledged the issue or has any plans on fixing this any time soon.

When you first enter a HoT map I recommend using the LFG tool to try to get into an active map from the outset. This will solve most of the map closing issues and allow you to better participate in the meta events. Otherwise you’ll likely end up on dead maps the majority of the time.

Once you have done the stuff at least once using LFG tool is fine but if you want to see each portion of the story content you need to already be in the map before it begins. But even still I have used LFG tool gotten a good one and then abandoned after significant progress in the followup meta. But really what makes no sense to me is why when 50-75% progress has been made people just abandon. That is what is frustrating. You lose out big time on the rewards when that happens. If you get the warning early on like 5% progress or so then at least you can get full rewards from switching.

What bugs me about this system is the way rewards are provided. THey are not handed over until a part of the Meta is completed. Makes sense, but recently I ran into an issue with this.
On TD, I basically started on the map just after Gerent was done, so a full two hours until the next appearance. Within 30min all the event chains at all the lanes were done, and I was on something 150% participation and map LvL3. So over the next 30min the rest of the events were completed multiple times and Participation went to 200% and map reward to lvl4.
Awesome!
Less awesome was that I had to stick around in the map for another hour to actually get the Meta reward, continuing to do event to avoid losing participation.
And that is weird, because I did contribute actively to getting there and if I would have left the map, I would have had zero rewards for it.

How about we recieve a portion of the total map instance reward when we leave it to a different map. That would be based on some formula that includes participation, completion level, time spent in map, time left until Meta event end etc etc.
That would be fairer for when you are constrained in time.
