I’m loving the idea of having gliders in the expansion, and I feel it would be amazing if we were able to upgrade these gliders through quests, events, gathering etc. For example, lets imagine that the first glider we receive is of rare quality with no further bonuses, then through a series of scavenger hunts (like Mawdrey) we are able to upgrade to exotic and then later to ascended versions. These upgraded versions could have extra bonuses such as :

Exotic version
10% extra hang time
10% extra speed
10% elemental resistance (resistant to wind turbulence, lightning stikes etc)

Ascended version
20% extra hang time
25% extra speed
20% elemental resistance (resistant to wind turbulence, lightning stikes etc)
+5 bag slot capacity (assuming gliders are now part of our chars, like minis, finishers)

and finally, it would also be great to be able to dye/decortate our gliders so that they match the look of our characters, this could be done through gathering rare materials from around the jungle, such as rare plants, killing bosses for dragon scales or even hunting elusive Moa for their feathers.

These are just some ideas I have for the future of gliders, please feel free to add your ideas to this thread and maybe we will see them come to light, because Arenanet do listen.

And do you know what? It doesn’t even matter.

I never played Archage, but I did play Aion. I know Aion included full controlled flight, and not just gliding, but having the ability to glide in Guild Wars 2 will:

a) no doubt have that “ArenaNet twist” on it and;
b) make further use of that third axis, since everyone seems to hate underwater.

People need to quit it with the “omg copycat” remarks because, really, what does it matter? Hasn’t everything already been done by this point? Are you the sort of person who complains when the supermarket makes it’s own version of a branded product?

I doubt we would get any difference in statistics as the gameplay mechanic probably requires it to function in a very specific way, for missions, objectives and such.

As for aesthetic looks, no doubt they will add that. Coming to a gem stone near you.

Well, we now know why we didn’t get any SAB for a while.

Double jumps, rocket boosters, Colored exhaust?

I hate underwater because I have zero depth perception down there, and I’m expected to fight there.

In the air, I hope exploration is all I’ll be expected to do, so I don’t mind the y-axis.
I also hated air combat in Aion, btw.

I would rather like to have the ability to get skins for my glider.
I don`t want some petals or leafs on my character that has burning armor (immersion. Also, I do not have burning armor )

How about letting our backpack influence the glider we get?
Got the Guild Backpack? You get a white sheet.
Got the Fractal capacitor? some magic stones that lift you.
Got the the mechanical wings? well, turn on the thrusters

I think there are several ways, in which they could do that.
