Please add a consumables bar!!
I asked for this multiple times, and others too. I hope they will do that. But my hopes are low: it seems Anet is so eager to keep the GUI as simple as possible as we can’t change it even if we want.
Such bars would make this game so much more comfortable, I hate to look through my inventory all the time for consumables etc.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Buy an invisible bag and put them in there, now you know where they always are.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Without cluttering up the UI more with additional bars, what about at least two new slots in equipment tab, one for either type of nourishment. You could slot the food stacks in there and as soon as you enter combat and you are not currently having them on you they would be applied. With a toggable on/off state of course.
And if you happen to run out it should keep a ‘shadow’ icon of the consumable so you know what you had there and can easily right click and purchase more from the TP. And probably some kind of notification that you have run out of them.
Perhaps like weapon swaps or something you could have multiple versions of said slots to be able to switch between multiple sets of consumables.
It doesn’t solve the inventory hunting for ‘fun item’s’ though but I can live with that as they are likely only to be used when idling in DR/LA anyway and not in combat in say WvW.

This doesn’t address the issue though. Firstly, a generally useful way to have your inventory open to is to combine the bag space because it better utilizes the inventory area. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is useful if you have a lot of space and not enough computer screen to hold it all.
Secondly, it is still a pain to not have access to key items that need to be activated to use. There are more than just food/utility items that could have extreme QoL improvements from this:
- Food/Utility slots
- WvW Siege Equipment slots
- Quick out-of-combat weapon-swapping slots
- Tonic/Transform slots
- etc.
For as much as I like this game, there are certainly issues I find with it and the UI is one of the greatest. I don’t want to bring up WoW because its toolbars were very customizable, but you could put food or items into them and even bind hotkeys to them. Maybe even just inventory slots with specific hotkey binding capabilities would solve this issue.
As a person who does not use consumables but would like to in an easy manner, adding a bar seems like a very nice idea and would probably make my user consumables.
doesnt need to be for consumables alone, just give like 2 or 3 slots to put “wharever” you like there; consumables, transformation items, or even weapons for quickly equiping a nee wep (as a melee ranger, its kinda tiring opening the menu every time to swith wherever my s/a or gs to LB when the situation calls it)
This! Please!
My main is a Chef/Artificer, so I end up making a lot of consumables, I would really like to be able to use them much more easily!
A bar would be great, but is it really much different than having your inventory open when you need to? Just resize it.
It would be nice for consumable, but weapons/armor/trinkets are way worst imo. How many times I had to open my inventory, tried to find the right weapon, try to swap, it go in the wrong spot, I switch to my hero panel, try to switch again and oups I’m in combat now.
It’s not needed as you can arrange your inventory pretty nicely and you can search your inventory.
UI, for practical purposes, is fine as it is. And add in the inventory, it works really well.
While I wouldn’t mind seeing a consumables bar, here’s a tip you can use to help. Arrange your inventory so your consumables are in a space all the way down the left side. Then drag the window to the right side of the screen so only the first column is visible and leave it open.
You’ve made your own consumables bar.

The problem with that is that your consumable won’t be all in a invisible bag and they will show up at the seller if they ain’t accound/soulbind.
Instead of that I would rather have more options like grouping by category and so on. Also Search options looking for key words besides names like ‘food’ and would find everything that is in that category inside your backs.
I have wanted something like this for a while too. I can get behind the idea of having two new equipment slots, for the two buff types, plus with an accompanying F key button for each (maybe F6 & F7).
I’d also like to see a toy slot (with F8 button) for quick access to your most used musical instrument, costume brawl item, mini pet, kite, mount, SAB boombox, etc..
And lastly, I’d like to see a button that summons an emote panel (with buttons for all the emotes) that acts like a drop down/pop up menu (depending on where it appears from), that auto hides when you move or perform other actions.
Even if we did not have keys bound to use the above, it would be good to have access to a quick button we could click to use these things, without having to open our inventory or typing in chat. I can continue living without them, but they would be nice QoL features.
Just put a ten slot bar on the side of the screen. Then Keybind them to Numpad numbers. It’s something really needed. There’s lots of cool consumables that I want to use, but can’t because combat is too frenetic to be opening and closing inventory bags.
I’d like to be able to toss out an Ember fire elemental, then pull out the experimental teleport gun sometimes to leap into a trouble spot. Or to switch between different types of good depending on the encounter type. Sometimes my heal skill is on an enforced cool down and I’d like to use my med kits. But it’s honestly impossible right now to use those things in a fun manner.
The suggestion that was given about just putting everything on top of the inventory Nd sliding it to the bottom of the screen somewhere doesn’t work either. The inventory window has huge borders which can’t be resized. To get ten items to show on the screen fills up a quarter of my screen’s real estate.
So Anet, for all of us that spent so many Gems buying your dance books, and fun boxes, and other cool consumable items, help us out please ???? Give us a consumables bar, so we can be on par with older first gen MMO titles.
This would be a fantastic feature and it really wouldn’t have to take up any screen space, you could make the bar considerably smaller. It could sit on top of the right hand side (utilities) bar and be the same size as your class features (F1-F5). Buffs could be placed above it, while I’m talking about buffs, put buffs on the left of the health bar and debuffs on the right.

while i’m not against the idea, I can’t see why people don’t just organize their inventory better? It’s fairly easy to do.
The truth is we should have a customisable GUI where we could rearrange and lock in place the different elements like in other MMOs. Otherwise if you add a consumables bar (or other element) some people will complain that they don’t want it or that it is in the wrong place for them. Personally I would like this to happen, if only because I don’t like the placement or the size of the boons/conditions bar. First thing I would do is separate boons bar from conditions bar and make them larger than the rest of the GUI. I’m surprised this hasn’t been implemented yet. Think of the options that could be added.
This is what it looks like playing with your inventory open. It is simply not convenient, and as a movable window, it has a tendency to get clicked and dragged in the midddl of frenetic battles.
Playing the game with only 1/3rd of the screen space available to see the action is just not something that we should have to do. It is not just inconvenient, but in many caes can lead to character death
First of all, to all people saying about inventory as a solution – keeping inventory open is NOT a solution, it is just a WORKAROUND, also a really inconvenient one, so please – don’t push that line again. It is NOT the same thing as an additional bar or key bind access and it doesn’t really help.
I am pretty sure anyone who uses consumables a lot have already organized their inventory and probably are keeping it open. That doesn’t mean it is a solution, it is just a temporary workaround for the feature that is not in game yet.
I would love to have a consumables bar with at least 2-4 slots, but adding one might interfere with the general idea of keeping the screen clear and allowing you to focus on gameplay itself and surroundings, so probably the easiest solution there is to allow players binding hotkeys to specific bag slots through game settings. Ultimately – allow binding keys to every bag slot you have, but just a few would also work just fine.
I am pretty sure anyone can remember a few additional binds. Also if an additional bar is introduced it will surely have key binds, so in the end you will be using those instead of clicking on the bar anyway.
Food/Utility specific bar might work nicely, BUT those are not the only consumables in game – there are also tonics, various brawl items, utility items, gemstore items and some other less classifiable ones. I am pretty sure a lot of people want to have some of those in quick access.

I made a similar post a couple of years ago before they started nerfing them and would love to have the option of a side bar that held maybe 2-3 items.
IMO, they are another superb feature that has been overlooked. If they did some work balancing these items and perhaps limiting the amount a character can have in their inventory or bank to say 25, they would add a great additional layer of gameplay and encourage players to complete the relevant events regularly to be able to purchase them.
Properly balanced, their addition would add huge diversity to available builds.

I agree. I just make an invisible bag for consumables and stuff. Works just fine for me.
If they do add a consumables bar though, I hope it can be toggled on/off, as I think it’d just clutter up the UI in my opinion.
Now that is a first class suggestion, yeah lets have that please.
I too would like a consumables bar.
Add a check box in the game options to always hide it so people who don’t want it don’t have to see it.
Make the bar function like a window allowing us to place it anywhere on the screen, instead of having it in a permanent fixed location.
Allow us to use consumables in our inventory by double/right clicking them whether the bar is hidden or not.
If possible, make the consumables bar have cooldown timers, like our skills, for the food and utility items we have equipped so we can see how much time we have left on an item before we have to use it again. Often times we go who-knows-how-long before realizing our food and/or utility item expired and we need to use another.
If possible add an equipment slot in hero window for a food and utility item that is linked to the consumables bar.
If there’s too much clutter, make it an option that can be turned off.
Idk how you can fill up enough consumables to make it a problem but in a way you already have a consumable bar. Heck, its better than that its a permanent bank access consumable just costs a ridiculous amount.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
While the https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/20_Slot_Safe_Box clearly helps as the bottom bag it is still much more convenient to have a freely customizable side bar. I can’t see why they didn’t add it from the beginning. The acceptance from the community is very high and like in other MMOs you can turn them off if you don’t like them.

I don’t know what type of consumables the OP had in mind but I was thinking more of a bar for these items:
http://dulfy.net/2013/01/16/gw2-useful-and-fun-consumables-guide/
For those who have never really payed any attention to them, there are over 30 that either provide buffs/debuffs, stealth, healing capability or function as additional weapon types.
How practical it is to keep your inventory open really depends on how big your screen is and what size UI you use. For example here’s what it looks like on my screen. I have a pretty big screen (can’t remember the exact size) and use the smallest UI.
That’s how I keep my inventory all the time – I keep the bags separated and the window sized so a 20 slot bag fits on screen at once. You can also see one of my ‘consumables’ bars at the bottom – that’s where I keep my salvage kit and current food/boosters.
I have another row at the bottom of the oiled bag for account bound odds and ends like my toy sword, skritt tonic and bank express items and a line at the top of the invisible bag for tradable stuff I want to keep like my quaggan tonic. I never have trouble finding the items I want when I want them. The only downside IMO is that I can’t use the compact feature. But it’s rare that I’d actually want to use it anyway.
But I can see how that wouldn’t work for other people whose inventory windows take up much more space on the screen.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
A consumables bar would take up 1/6th of that space- even with a large screen and a small GUI, being able to see more of the game is a good thing, yes? Plus, a bar could be completely disabled during combat which would make it more practical than the inventory, which is easy to accidentally “grab” in combat.
Bumping this post. It is still a function that really needs to be added.
Consumables commonly used.
Food
Utility potions
Shapechange potions
Dance manual
Experience boosts
Teleport
Shovels
Flamethrower
Flame Ember
Ranger pet summon
Teleport gun
Medic pack
Birthday blaster
Fireworks
Feathers
Hyleck poison
Ascalonian tomes
Enlarge potion
and there’s many more than that.
I’d even support it being added as a gem store add-on, say 800 gems for an 8 slot consumables bar.
