This shouldn’t happen. It should always deploy at the pinnacle of your jump, instead of X milliseconds after, X being your latency.

Gliding should be in the same category as movement. Why doesn’t the base game delay your movement every time you press W,S,A,D ? It doesn’t because that would utterly destroy gameplay, making the game literally unplayable, so the server compensates for your lag and the other players see you delayed instead of you seeing yourself delayed. This should happen with gliding too. as little as 200-300 ms (which is pretty good for an Australian) is a significant altitude loss, throw in random fluctuation of sometimes up to 500+, and some glides aren’t even achievable.

I don’t have lag so I don’t know if this works but.

Some people jump and then press jump again, If I know I am going to fly from the start as your picture shows I always keep jump pressed.

What I mean is when you lag and press jump during your jump the game doesn’t react that you pressed the jump button but if you keep jump button pressed from the start of your jump then the game should behave just as if you pressed WASD for walking. Maby this is what you are talking about but I am not sure.

I am familiar with the glider controls by now.

If you tap jump you don’t glide.
If you hold jump you glide as soon as the game allows (seems to be the pinnacle of jump).
If you tap, and then tap again later, it’s usefull for breaking falls and getting to lower areas.

In my OP I am talking about when you hold jump, although I have tried tapping and it doesn’t work either/seems to be worse.

The problem as I understand it isn’t that OP has Lag s/he is well aware of this as an Australian, the problem is that with lag it is impossible to get the glider to be used in right times. Like the game does not register that you for example are keeping space pressed. As OP said when you walk and there is lag the game still makes you walk even if you lag but gliders don’t deploy.

Agreed, please make it a regular movement or improve glider deployment somehow please. My other regular gameplay performes fine. But because of the lag I cannot reach certain updrafts to complete some achievements or keep up with certain glider boss fights…which is frustrating to say the least.

Yeah I also regularly playing around 250ms, and while most of the time I don’t have any problem, sometimes when the lag spikes it makes it impossible to glide correctly. Would love to see this fixed.

ANYWAY. i notice glider lag even when i’m not lagging in any other way, glider always opens about a second after i press my space bar

Yep this is frustrating. Even when I’m not noticing any lag and do a dozen successful glider jumps in a row, it still happens occasionally and I see no way to predict it. Seems to happen regardless of holding jump or tapping, but maybe my spacebar has issues because I’ve never had it occur (yet?) when I bound jump to another key and tested holding it.

I have horrible lag, most of the time and attempting to glide, even when I should have plenty of time to deploy my glider, very often just ends up with me going splat on the floor.

Even when my lag isn’t that bad (for me), any kind of precise gliding is impossible, as it still takes about a second for my glider to deploy.

Honestly, I think it would be better if we could deploy our glider before jumping – like you would IRL.

After all, it’s not a parachute, or even a paraglider – people don’t jump off cliffs, IRL and then deploy their hang glider.

They attach themselves to their hang glider and then they run off the cliff.
