It is rather unlikely we will see it today, since we know that we will get a post about the Personal Story fixes/changes.

We might get it later this week of course, but it is highly unlikely that we will get two big posts on the same day.

Okay, this wait for more information on specialization is becoming out of hand and for people who say they listen to the community aren’t doing a good job at providing players with what they want. Majority of everyone wants to know what new skills and specializations they will be getting with their class(es), not everyone wants to constantly know about the new borderlands etc…save that for last…

@witcher: Yeah that is likely what I am thinking too, that for whenever the first CBT happens they will probably release a couple specializations for us players to get to dabble with (as well as probably more Revenant skills? Idk).

@lordkrall: You’re right but wow the Personal Story wasn’t even a blog :T just a post here on the forums also it seems like the update for Personal Story will be “at least 8 weeks” away since Bobby Stein says we will have at least 8 weeks to complete the correct story steps on current characters.

This makes me wonder if we will get a blog post at all this week pertaining to the earlier linked picture.

Maybe it’s because they need more time to develop? Wild guess.

They do have at least 2 more months to go, assuming that when they do start talking about specs it’s 1 per week – 9 in total, so ~2 months, bit over.

Oh, there’s probably going to be more beta’s, so another couple months…

Well yes but many believe, myself included, is that they won’t reveal them all in a row and it’ll be spaced out sort of like the original profession reveals were.

Another thing to note is that they’re definitely not going to have something playable in a Closed Beta without revealing it first with a Blog Post as was done with the Revenant (blog post happened first then came the reveal in gameplay and test availability).

So with that line of thinking, and also the fact that they keep saying Closed Beta will happen really soon, means a blog about a Specialization for a specific Profession or just Specializations in more detail should come really soon hence hoping for it to appear either this week or next, hopefully.

EDIT: To add to my Revenant example. Revenant blog post was released about a month before the Stress Test occurred. Hence I’m sure they’ll space it out like this for other Specializations as well (maybe they’ll reveal two and then following CBT has those two available or something like that).

I stopped caring about specialisations as soon as I learned guardian will get a bow. Anyway, I doubt we’ll be seeing any information about them in the next month. I have a feeling they wanna keep this info for last.

This hasn’t been confirmed yet. it MAY be the case, but ANET hasn’t released it, so why dismiss it already. Also, who’s to say the longbow may not have great attacks that really add to the profession?

Considering pretty much every fight in PvE is melee, I’m disappointed we get a ranged weapon.

That’s actually a good thing. When they announced the Revenant they did say that they had multiple designs for new classes in place and they finally chose the Revenant.

It’s quite possible that they create multiple specs for the professions and test them all out until they find the best one to release in HoT. Then they will either scrap the rest, or refine them and add more specs later on for all professions. I don’t see it as a bad thing.

Still, they could’ve at least release information for the Specializations we already know a lot about (Necromancer and Ranger mainly).

Ugh. Really couldn’t care less. I hate to say it, but out of a lot of MMORPGs that I have played, I am not very invested at all in the story of GW2. It’s just not interesting and the characters they shove in your face to interact with aren’t ‘things’ I can be empathetic towards.

And that’s why a-net’s marketing is a bust.

The proper way to do this is to start off big (that they did), but also leying out the concrete foundations for hype, such as size of the expansion. If you know it’s gonna be big and how big, then hype is on with slowly revealing just what’s inside that big black box of unknown we’re awaiting.

But here it was not clearly stated, in fact it’s actively avoided, leading many people to think that the x-pac won’t be half as big as expected, and devs straying away from the topic sure doesn’t help to put out the doubt.

Also i hate these “filler” bits we get recently.

No one is forcing you to drop information weekly, a-net.

I don’t want, nor care for recaps of any kind. You’d save both your and my time if instead of throwing these fillers at me, you just left a note under actual new HoT blog post saying “Next reveal – [date here]”.

the problem with the hype train they’re trying to make is that, we have bin asking for a change for almost a years and they have given us absolutely nothing.
players start to lose interest, they spend their money on something rewarding.
they rather spend $100 on a game that was just released then even $10 on GW2 because the new game at least has the info and gameplay they released on time, GW2 is for now nothing more then a dead waste of time to even spend any money on.

we want info, just 13 days away from making this problem a yearly discussion….literally.
stop the hype train, it doesn’t benefit Anet, it doesn’t benefit GW2, it doesn’t benefit NCsoft and it surely doesn’t keep us from spending our money on other things.

We wont even have all new legendaries when HoT launch. I call it ls3+feature pack. I guess at beginning we will get 2 new maps max and rest will come with future updates.

Also they really going to spend the whole week just for 1 specialization which i will read up in 20min in the blog? I mean k, new traits which will probably replace current profession traitline, 1 new wep, 1 heal, 4 utility, 1 elite and slighty modified f1-4 (some will get f5) and thats about it..

We also saw warrior specialization in a poi that has f2 key greyed out which leads me to think that warrior will be able to use f2 olny with new offhand weapon – pathetic.

I would assume they are simply holding onto it because they are not yet set in stone. Therefore they don’t wish to risk presenting something that might change drastically before release. Because everyone knows what happens if that situation comes.

I’m ok with them taking their time to get things right. I’m a bit miffed, though, at how the blogs gloss over so much detail, and get so little followup when people ask clarifying questions. These are not “deep dives,” they’re brochure snapshots. I’m glad we’re getting them at all, of course. They do give us a lot of interesting tidbits. They’re just not … I guess they’re not what I expected after PAX South’s big info dump and various comments about further info dumps on the way.

I sure hope that when they do start in on specializations, it’s not just one weekly short blog. Because “we want to devote a whole week to each one” suggests far more than “we’ll give you 6 paragraphs on Thursday afternoon.” Thursday is not a whole week.

@Roe: I really like that idea although I feel Specialization reveals are going to be sporadic, just like original Profession reveals. It would be nice to have a roadmap of when to expect a reveal but apparently that drives away hype. For me though it does the opposite, but I guess that’s just because I like to know when things are planned.

@lordkrall: Yes this seems to be a case. From a fan-meet it was said by a Dev that the Thief specialization was already picked but that if it changes then it will most surely be for something more awesome.

I’m alright with knowing something like that because it makes me think of how Sylvari looked when they were first announced and what a major improvement they were after Arena Net decided to totally redo their looks, I would have never wanted to make one otherwise if not for that revision.

This is why my OP is just asking for some general information on how a Specialization works. For instance we do not know when they are unlocked or how, does it require being a certain level or completing a certain task? Does it require skill points or some other kind of currency? Will it play a big part in the story (similar to being Ascended in GW1) or just be an addition that is only new to us players (like the Desert Borderlands and Stronghold PVP maps)?

What does a profession lose for what is gained, and how much? Is it a different amount for each profession or the same? Are Specializations designed with the intent that if someone strictly wants to only play a Druid in all game modes and forms of content then they are able to do so?

These are the kinds of information that I meant I’m looking for as I understand the necessity for keeping ideas behind closed doors until they’re ready. However I just feel like these kinds of general questions, not about what Specializations are arriving, should have pretty stable answers by now. That is my hope at least.

@Donari: Yes I feel the same way, especially with the Revenant blog post. I assumed we would have gotten to know at least all of its’ usable weapons, even if we were not able to see the skills. But I think they want to use the Revenant as sort of the “look forward to new info about this Profession” while leading up to the expansion. There might be conventions and such where Arena Net wants to utilize new information about the Revenant as a way to catch more attention for demo players.

I mean they can do this for Specializations too like how the original eight Professions weren’t all playable at all demos aside from the ones that were revealed and talked about beforehand.

Also I suspect when they do decide to pick a particular Specialization to reveal then we will be teased with artwork, then blog posted, then maybe even press will release news from covert interviews with Arena Net, followed by a PoI for a slightly closer look at what was revealed in action and then of course those parts being playable at a demo. They can definitely reveal enought information to carry throughout a whole week. Revenant reveal lasted a whole week and it didn’t even include all parts of the Profession, a Specialization reveal can definitely do the same.

Irrelevant.

How is this irrelevant? Are you suggesting no one plays PvP or WvW? Range plays an important in both of those.

It’s irrelevant because I only expressed my own disappointment. I never said guardian couldn’t use more range or that lb would be an over all bad weapon. But when it comes to what I like, it matters very little what people that are into other game modes may or may not be excited about.

So not only do you dismiss other gamemodes, but you consider PvE to only be dungeons. Your very limited view helps no one.

I like the occasional spvp and organised WvW, but that does not mean I have to be excited about a range weapon I’ll most likely not use a lot. Never have I said lb will suck, I merely voiced my own disappointment at what’s most likely going to be a nearly useless weapon in my preferred game mode.

This week, while introducing some new information about Personal Story and the Story of HoT, felt really sparse. All we received throughout this whole week pretty much were just a lot of recaps on information that has already been known, for the most part.

Oh, but it can still change, buddy. If they are so far back that they don’t even know if they can implement the specializations the way they think they can, we risk having a scenario in which they don’t manage to finish all specializations by the time the game releases.

How about a release with only a “handful” of specializations, with the rest being released “later”? Sounds familiar?

Anet did, during HoT’s announcement. Several weeks later, Roy replied to my question in-game, saying that they were aiming for 2-3 per week (if my memory isn’t wrong, it could have been 1-2 instead).

How lovely, thanks for sharing that info. I thought ANet would’ve done the 1 week per specialization route, which would’ve been kind of unfair to those whose professions’ specializations were discussed last.

Hope so as specializations doesnt bring all that much to waste a week per one specialization when in reality there not much going for them from my pov. 1 new weapon, 6 new skills (heal, 4 utility, elite) and new traitline with slighty modified class mechanic doesnt cut the problem base classes suffer from.

In the CDI threads where the concept of sub-classing was discussed, some anet’s devs were very interested on the idea of quests/ adventures being required to unlock sub-classes. So that may very well happen, and if so, who knows, maybe specs will bring new lore, in addition to the new adventures, to the world as well. And, perhaps, we’ll also get spec-themed armor sets for each one of them too? I don’t want to hype it too much, but if Anet once thought they could dedicate one whole week for each spec, then it’ll probably be a bit more elaborated than merely “some new skills and some changes to existing skills”.

Well the only reason why they would do 1 profession a week is to drag out some time. That’s really about it.
The specs definitely wont cure issues with the base classes, pretty sure they’ve given up on that, but instead will hopefully give some diversification to classes.
