This has some very revealing things about the Rev. in it as it pertains to story:

“While the revenant is very story-driven compared to other professions in the game, ArenaNet says it will not make class-specific story content for them.‘We want professions to have more story to them about why they exist and why they’ve come about,’ Peters says. ‘But one of the things we learned in the original Guild Wars 2 release is that when we gave people a bunch of story paths to go down, they only played one of them. It’s better for us to give players choices along the way but not have those choices make them go in a different direction and not play a thing we spent a lot of time building.’ "

The saddest thing is their take away on multiple paths – since the early, massively branching storyline is one of the best, most re-playable parts of the game to me. When it became all roads lead to Trahearne is when I stopped caring about the story.

Yeah, the personal story had this major flaw. Tons of content was created, that has never been seen by most players.

You know what is better in matters of game design than having many choices. Having the illusion of choices.

So much dev time got wasted for so little impact. While I think the personal story was better than the Living Story Season 1, I think they did it right with LS2.

Everyone gets the same story, still sort of fun.

For me, coming from SW:ToR into GW2 I wanted to play the world they designed instead of story. Tyria is such a better world than the one in ToR. The personal story and cutscenes though? Not really.

I am glad ArenaNet are playing to their strengths and dropping any addition to the PS for the Rev.

not play a thing we spent a lot of time building.

But they did say in a topic (I don’t have a link, sorry) that they are okay with people paying gold to jump to the end of a dungeon and yet here they say they are not okay with people not playing a thing they spent a lot of time on…….. to quote my lil sister; “All them lies they tell”.

I find their comments about branching story extremely funny. It isn’t giving the player the choice that was the problem… the problem was that the stories were TERRIBLE and after a few levels they all merged to the exact same even more terrible story anyway. Why would anyone go through the mess that was your branching story line more than once? It was a pain to do it the first time.

I know of other MMO’s where I (and anecdotally most of the players I know) play almost every alternate story (SWTOR for instance).

This is like blaming the fact that no one ate your turkey at Thanksgiving on the fact that people must really hate turkey instead of admitting you burnt the thing and its now a dry tasteless husk.

I doubt it’s a case of them being ok with it.

More of a case of them TOLERATING it and choosing not to invoke some rules lawyering to try to define one person’s skill as an exploit.

Hmmm, never thought about that. I presumed they were okay with it cuz real money = gems = gold. In other words they could get a lil bit of money from the ppl who don’t like to do dungeons but like to throw away their money.
